CLASS IMPACT: Notre Dame Lands Talented Tight End Ian Premer

CLASS IMPACT: Notre Dame Lands Talented Tight End Ian Premer originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Notre Dame remains on fire by landing a commitment from 2026 tight end Ian Premer. The Great Bend (Kan.) High School star picked Notre Dame over Kansas State and Iowa State, giving the other another commitment from one of the nation's best players. Advertisement Let's break down how this commitment impacts the Notre Dame 2026 class and the Irish depth chart. NOTRE DAME CLASS IMPACT Premer is the 22nd player to commit to Notre Dame in the 2026 class. He's the 13th offensive player to commit to the Fighting Irish in this class and he's the second tight end, joining Ohio standout Preston Fryzel. Notre Dame signed one of the nation's best tight ends in the 2025 class by landing James Flanigan. The Irish also signed a four-star tight end in the 2024 class by landing Jack Larsen. Notre Dame tried to land a second tight end in the 2025 class but ultimately landed only one. The loss of Eli Raridon and Kevin Bauman after the 2025 season, and possibly Ty Washington and Cooper Flanagan after the following season, the Irish are overall thin on numbers, which is why a second tight end was a must in this class. Landing Fryzel and Premer gives the Notre Dame two of the best pass catching tight ends in the country. Flanigan is more of a throwback tight end that can do a ton of damage attached and can also move around. Notre Dame needed a complementary skillset in the 2026 class and both Premer and Fryzel provide that. Premer is also a Top 50 national player, so landing one of the nation's best pass catchers and top ranked players provides even more momentum for the Irish in the 2026 class. NOTRE DAME FIT Notre Dame's best tight ends over the last 20 years have all been different players, but the majority of them have been impact pass catchers first and foremost. Premer is that kind of weapon, one that can develop into a dominant pass catcher at the next level. He can line up attached, but he can do damage all over, and his game is arguably even better suited to move around and line up outside and in the slot. Landing a player with dual-threat ability that can also impact the run game is also ideal. Right now Premer is a work in progress in the run game, but even there his potential to impact the offense is quite high. FILM ANALYSIS Premer is listed at 6-5 and 225 pounds and his frame is impressive. He has long arms - which gives him an elite catch radius - and he has the frame to add a lot of strength and good weight. I don't know if he'll fill out quite as much as Kyle Rudolph, but overall his frame reminds me a lot of the former Notre Dame standout tight end. Premer is a basketball player in high school, so that helps keep his weight down, but once he stops playing basketball in the offseason he'll fill out quickly. Advertisement This is a long striding athlete that can really run. Premer covers a lot of ground and shows the speed to be a home run threat at the next level. He explodes off the ball and quickly gets to top speed, which also shows up when he makes the catch and runs away from defenders. But his second gear makes him a big play weapon, and that speed translates to the next level quite nicely. If you want an idea of the kind of athlete Premer is, watch him running the ball out of the backfield, where he's planting vertically on outside zone and creasing the defense. His foot quickness is impressive and allows him to get clean breaks coming out of his top ends. On top of having the athletic skill to be a good route runner, Premer also shows a good understanding of how to win as a route runner. He'll pick the Notre Dame route tree up in a hurry. His athleticism also helps him make defenders miss after the catch, making him a legit after the catch weapon as well. Mike Denbrock likes to run tight end screens, and Premer should thrive in those concepts thanks these traits. Premer has impressive ball skills. On top of having a big catch radius he does a great job of attacking the football and catching it away from his body. He tracks the deep ball extremely well and he shows the body control you want and need to be a highly effective contested catch player. His length, fast hands and aggressiveness going after the ball combine with his speed to make him a matchup nightmare once the ball is in the air. Once he gets stronger he'll be one of those "just throw it up to him" kind of weapons. Premer is a willing blocker and that will eventually be a strength, especially when working on the perimeter. As he adds more strength I expect this to become at least an area where he's good, but there's potential for it to become a strength. Advertisement Premer is a unique tight end that possesses outstanding size at 6-5 and 225 pounds, but also high level athleticism that makes him a dominant pass catcher. Four-star TE Ian Premer commits to Notre Dame

The luck of the Irish has struck again. That's because four-star tight end Ian Premer has committed to the team. The Great Bend (Ind.) High standout committed to Notre Dame over Kansas State, Iowa State and Kansas. Before he took the official visit to Notre Dame the Kansas native told Rivals what he was looking for in a school. This description seemed to fit Notre Dame perfectly. Advertisement 'To start off the winning pedigree,' Premer said. 'I'm a big time competitor, so I want to go to a school that's gonna be successful and win. 'Then I can continue to help them win. Along with that is tight end utilization. Are they in 12 personnel a lot or are they throwing the tight end the ball? Then are they developing players for the NFL? The last thing I would say is just the feel and the culture of the place and if I could kind of see myself in that.' Too Much THC?

May 23—Wednesday morning, officers from the Great Bend Police Department executed a search warrant at Breaktime Corner Market (Formerly Presto-Circle K), 2337 Washington Ave. The search warrant was served as part of an investigation involving alleged sales of THC occurring at the business, a release from Chief Steve Haulmark said. "A large quantity of products containing THC as well as drug paraphernalia were seized from the business. The case will be presented to the County Attorney's Office for review and determination of criminal charges. "This enforcement action is part of a larger investigation in and around Great Bend, which remains ongoing." The release from Chief Haulmark noted that prior to the execution of this warrant, all of the businesses in our community who are known to sell smoking and vaping products were provided with a courtesy letter requesting their compliance with Kansas Laws regarding controlled substances. Courtesy Letter When asked about the courtesy letter referenced by Chief Haulmark in the department's press release and also during the raid, no business that the Great Bend Tribune contacted could provide the letter and all of them said that any potential letter pre-dated current management or was filed away from more than two years ago. None could recall from whom the letter was sent. "The police chief said it was a year and a half. But I know it has to have been at least two years," a manager at Breaktime that was present during the execution of the warrant said. "We were selling it before the letter. So we were selling it before two years ago. And then I know they stopped for three to six months, maybe six months," explaining that their distributors halted delivery briefly but once deliveries resumed employees returned products to store shelves. "They didn't send us any more of that product, and we didn't sell any of it, and then they just started sending it again." The Tribune sent a request to Chief Haulmark asking for a copy of the letter in question, when it was sent and by whom. As of press time the Tribune had not received a reply. Confusion about legality According to the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp products containing less than 0.3% THC are federally legal. However, Kansas law has not changed and recognizes that there is a 0% threshold for THC products across the state. Many products similar to the ones seized during the raid of Breaktime are also available at liquor stores, convenience stores and smoke and vape shops in Great Bend and Barton County as well as other communities across the state. Local retailers that sell these products have been doing so for multiple years with the understanding they are operating within the law while also collecting city, county and state sales tax on the products. "We've never been messed with," said Jennifer Best, manager of Smok-N-Vape since putting on their shelves more than two years ago. "We just want clarification. It all comes from the hemp plant and all of it, every bit of the product that was in this store was .3% or less." After the press release was posted to the Great Bend Police Department's social media, some stores within city limits pulled their products to potentially avoid confiscation and legal issues even though the products account for a significant portion of their revenue. Other stores are still operating as normal with the understanding their products are legal. Even with the expected losses the risk isn't worth the reward for some. "We pulled everything off our shelves," Best said. "We pay our taxes every quarter. We send them taxes in and everybody gets a cut." "It's pretty big. I mean, you see from where she's standing all the way down to here is our product," Vapor 100 Store Manager Sara Lewis said as she and a coworker worked to remove product from store shelves. "We're pulling half our store almost." After reading some of the comments left on the social media post and talking with customers, "I hear the community's kind of outraged about it all," Lewis said. Revenue from the federally legal hemp products account for roughly half of sales for the vape store. "It's devastating," Lewis said. As well as concern for the business, employees also expressed concern for the customers that purchase the products. "So many people use it for pain, to sleep, and that have cancer." Lewis, who has been managing the Great Bend store for about five months, said, "I've been here for five months and haven't received a letter and my regional manager wasn't aware of a letter either." After leaving the business the Tribune was informed that employees were later instructed to return product back to the shelves.
