Inside the tragic life of Jamie Fraser's father Brian from Ellen MacKenzie romance to death

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from Outlander and potential spoilers from Outlander: Blood of My Blood The much-anticipated prequel to Outlander, titled Blood of My Blood, is set to grace our screens later this year. This 10-part limited series will delve into the lives of the parents of Outlander's central star-crossed lovers Jamie (portrayed by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe). Starz has already started dropping hints about the upcoming drama series, sharing photos of the two main couples Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) and Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater), and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) and Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield). As we approach the premiere of the drama, fans are eager to learn more about Jamie's father Brian, including his past, reports the Scottish Daily Express . Here's a comprehensive guide to everything you need to know about Brian, from his love story with Ellen to his tragic demise. Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie's forbidden romance and its heartbreaking end Brian was the illegitimate child of Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat (Tony Curran) and Davina Porter, a maid at Castle Downie. Outlander: Blood of My Blood will depict Brian and Ellen falling head over heels for each other after a chance meeting during the Great Gathering in 1715, when the next MacKenzie Clan chieftain would be chosen. Despite their love being forbidden, the couple didn't let anything stand in their way, with Jamie previously shedding light on their secret love affair in Outlander. Despite her brothers' objections, a determined Ellen pursued her passionate romance with Brian. Ellen's brothers tried to arrange a marriage for her to ease clan tensions, but she offended her prospective husband and ran away with Brian. She eventually became pregnant with their child, and she and Brian hid until her pregnancy was visible, leaving her brothers with no choice but to let her marry him. They tied the knot just a week before the birth of their first son, William, at Lallybroch. The couple went on to have three more children: Jamie, Jenny (Laura Donnelly), and Robert. However, the love story of Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie ended tragically. Despite settling down at Lallybroch after overcoming their enemies, the family was struck by tragedy. In 1727, William contracted smallpox and died at the age of 11. Brian also lost Ellen and his son Robert when they both died during childbirth. Jenny and Jamie tried to hold the family together as they all grappled with their shared loss. Brian Fraser's life took a turn for the worse when Captain 'Black Jack' Randall (Tobias Menzies) arrived at Lallybroch one day while he was attending a funeral. The Redcoat and his men ransacked the estate, with Black Jack attempting to rape Jenny, but failing. Jamie tried to protect Jenny and was arrested and taken to Fort William, where he was flogged. As shown in Outlander, Black Jack administered a second, more brutal whipping shortly after the first, which Brian sadly witnessed. The flogging was excessively cruel, with Black Jack attempting to bind himself to Jamie through this extreme act of violence. During the whipping, Brian believed his son had died, causing him to faint from shock. He was taken home, but the thought of losing a third child proved too much for him. Tragically, Brian passed away a few days later. Outlander: Blood of My Blood premieres on Starz on August 8 and on Prime Video via MGM+ on August 9 Outlander season 7 is available to buy now on Digital and is streaming on MGM+ via Prime Video now
