Tulane Football Preview 2025: Jon Sumrall Is Keeping the Green Wave Rolling
It turned out to be a disappointment for a program with the talent and chops to have done a little more, but all Jon Sumrall did in his first season as the head coach at Tulane was come up with the fourth strongest season since isn't a program used to winning a ton of games with just 11 seasons with nine wins or more, and Sumrall came up with course, the expectations are high now after Willie Fritz won 23 games before taking off for Houston, but Sumrall proved he could handle the gig. He was a great hire, and now, combining his two seasons at Troy, he has 32 wins in three he's about to get a whole lot more, but this time around, despite a ton of key losses in the portal, it's about winning the American Athletic Conference title, not just getting there. X CFN, Fiu | CFN Facebook | Bluesky Fiu, CFN - Tulane Season Prediction, Top Players, Win TotalThe offense in the first year under Sumrall threw the ball well, was efficient when it had a chance to score, and did a whole slew of nice things throughout the the attack was on, Tulane won. It was 8-0 when scoring more than 27 points, 1-5 when it didn't, and it has to be more consistent. It sputtered against the five good teams on the slate, ripped through the weaker ones, and now it has to do more with a slew of new parts starting with … - Star quarterback Darian Mensah was a massive deal in the transfer portal. Duke supposedly gave him a whole lot of dough to step in and take over after he threw for over 2,700 yards and 22 scores, so the Green Wave did some shopping of its own, bringing in Kadin Semonza from Ball State to keep it all going. - The receiving corps is undergoing a bit of an overhaul, but Shazz Preston is back on the outside after missing most of the year hurt, Bryce Bohanon will do more with a bigger role inside, and the transfers will take care of the Hayes (Florida Atlantic) will be one of the new stars, and sixth-year senior Jimmy Calloway (Louisville) is a huge help for the depth. Justyn Reid (Southern Miss) is a dangerous deep threat prospect at tight end. - The ground game took a back seat, and it'll have more work to do with top back Makhi Hughes leaving for Oregon. Second-leading rusher Arnold Barnes III is a 216-pound tough back who ran for 402 yards and six scores, and Maurice Turner (Louisville) should average close to five yards per carry. - The Green Wave line should be interesting. It has the parts back on the left side with the First Team All-AAC tandem of Derrick Graham back at tackle and Shadre Hurst at guard. The rest comes from the Jack Hollifield (App State) should be the best of the haul. Jordan Hall (Liberty) is a veteran tackle, and John Bock (FIU) is a nice get for the interior. All things considered, the defense did a decent job. It had to undergo a bit of an overhaul, but this coaching staff is good enough to make it better with the transfer portal bringing in more depth to try overcoming all the massive losses through the portal and to Green Wave finished 30th in the nation in total defense and allowed just 20.6 points per game, and it's getting some immediate help to replace … - Patrick Jenkins only made 4.5 sacks last season, but the new Arizona Cardinal will be missed at tackle. Coming in to pick up the slack is Santana Hopper, a 265-pound tough edge rusher who made 70 tackles with 8.5 sacks over the last two years at App State. He's combining with Mo Westmoreland, a dangerous hybrid edge rusher with 15.5 sacks and 21 tackles for loss over the last two years at no problem on the interior with Kameron Hamilton, an all-conference interior pass rusher, and Adonis Friloux, a 325-pound anchor whose job is to hold up and let everyone else work. 310-pound Derrick Shepard (UAB) is a good-sized pickup. - Star linebacker and leading tackler Tyler Grubbs is gone, but Sam Howard is a big-time tackler who's always around the ball, finishing second on the team with 63 tackles and recovering a whopping five fumbles. He'll likely take over for Grubbs, and the quick Dickson Agu should be a statistical star in the middle coming off a 34-tackle season. Chris Rogers is a strong backup who'll get his share of work. - The Green Wave went shopping for corners. KC Eziomume (Albany) is a good-sized corner who can get physical, and Isaiah Wadsworth (Wofford) is a sixth-year veteran who came on last season with 38 tackles and eight broken up safeties will be one of the team's biggest strengths. The combination of Bailey Despanie and Jack Tchienchou made 103 tackles last season and will be all over everything this year. Kevin Adams made 40 tackles and was a threat to get behind the line.- Tulane Season Prediction, Top Players, Win Total © 2025 The Arena Group Holdings, Inc. All rights reserved.

Tulane Green Wave Key to the Season Don't forget about the rushing Tulane offense under this coaching staff wants to get the attack moving through the air, but when the ground game worked, the team won. The Green Wave were 9-0 when getting to 198 yards or more, and 0-5 when running for 154 yards or fewer. As long as the O is averaging over 4.5 yards per carry, it'll be doing its job. So … Tulane Green Wave Key Player Arnold Barnes III, RB of the attention will be on the quarterback situation, but that will be fine. Replacing Makhi Hughes will be the problem, losing two years of 2,779 yards and 22 touchdowns of rushing production. Barnes is a nice back who's been waiting for his turn, and he'll get it coming off a 402-yard, six-touchdown season with a receiving score.- 2025 Tulane Offense, Defense Preview Tulane Green Wave Top Transfer, Biggest Transfer Loss Top Transfer In: Kadin Semonza, QB a 5-11, 196-pound baller of a passer who slung it around for over 2,900 yards and 25 touchdowns and ten picks last year for Ball State. He's accurate, can push the ball all over the field, and he should shine behind a line that will give him more time to work. Don't be stunned when he cranks out more production than …Top Transfer Out: Darian Mensah, QB isn't just that he's a good passer with a world of upside, it's that he's seen as a quarterback to build an offense around for the next few years. Duke is paying him to be the franchise guy, and he's got the 6-3 size and maturity to handle the gig. Tulane Green Wave Key Game at Memphis, Nov. 7With all due respect to the love given to Army and Navy going into the season, Memphis and Tulane have the talent and star power to potentially meet for the AAC title. This year, forget about the date at Ole Miss, but they can get by Duke if everything breaks then, like last year, they'll rip through the AAC schedule, at least most of it. It'll be a fight to get past Memphis on the road, but it'll take an upset for anyone else in the conference to pull off a win against this bunch. Port authority honours five companies with Green Wave Awards
The Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) recognized five companies for their efforts in environmental stewardship as part of its 2024 Green Wave program. The initiative rewards commercial vessels that voluntarily adopt sustainable practices to reduce their air emissions and underwater noise. This year's award winners included intermodal carriers COSCO and Yang Ming, which move cargo using various modes of transportation. Next, liquid-bulk shipping lines SK Shipping and Navigator Gas LLC were honoured. Following them, BC Ferries, a coastal transporter for passengers and vehicles, was also recognized. In addition to company-wide honours, the Port spotlighted nine individual vessels for using underwater noise mitigation technology. Among them were container ships YM Plum, YM Uniform, YM Mutuality, and Mol Charisma; LPG carriers Boreal Voyager and HLS Diamond; dry bulk vessels XH Square Leg and Yangze 16; and the expedition cruise ship Roald Amundsen. 'The Prince Rupert Port Authority commends the 2024 Green Wave Award recipients for their commitment to decarbonizing the global shipping and passenger transportation sectors and lessening the impacts of their operations on the environment,' said Shaun Stevenson, president and CEO of PRPA in a June 9 news release. Launched in 2013, the Green Wave program offers financial incentives such as reduced harbour fees to shipping companies that meet international environmental standards in emissions and underwater acoustics. The program has seen significant growth in recent years. In 2024, 316 commercial vessel calls met Green Wave criteria, representing a 33 percent increase from 2019. 'We are also encouraged to see a record number of vessels calling on the Prince Rupert Gateway that are activating measures to reduce underwater noise. These critical investments help support the protection of marine mammals and other aquatic life around the North Coast and beyond,' said Stevenson. PRPA stated the Green Wave initiative plays a key role in its broader environmental strategy, which includes aggressive targets for reducing emissions and carbon intensity at the Prince Rupert Gateway. The Port aims to cut its carbon intensity by 30 percent over the next five years and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The Prince Rupert Port Authority is a federal authority in Canada that manages and oversees the Port of Prince Rupert, Canada's northernmost trade gateway on the west coast. Error! The auteur of dissent
There is a scene in the 2015 movie Taxi Tehran where a seller of counterfeited foreign movie CDs use a taxi, driven by the director of the movie playing himself, to make a sale. While mainstream directors rue counterfeits, Jafar Panahi observes the transaction with an expression of sorrow and understanding. The Iranian director, who had to shoot most of his movies in secrecy and smuggle them out of his country, in a flash drive hidden inside a birthday cake in one instance, also gives some words of advice to the young buyer who is an aspiring filmmaker. The books and movies available are already made, Panahi says to the young man, one must look beyond what is in front of him. But Panahi, ironically in a sense, did throughout his career what he advised the young man not to do. He turned his lens to what was in front of him and showed it to the world despite the Iranian authorities branding him an 'enemy of the state'. They banned him from making movies or leaving the country, and imprisoned him at the notorious Evin prison. Standing under the spotlight at the Cannes Riviera last week, holding the prestigious Palme d'Or for his 'revenge thriller' It Was Just an Accident, Panahi expressed hope that his society could get to a place where no one is told what or what not to do and what or what not to make. Inspired by his experiences in jail, It Was Just an Accident is born from the artistic resistance of authoritarianism that is present throughout his filmography, including The Circle, Closed Curtain, Offside, and This Is Not a Film. Panahi recalls how, during his imprisonment in 2022 for charges of participating in the Green Wave movement following the controversial re-election of former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in 2009, he was blindfolded during interrogation with questions coming from behind him. He says voices with no faces play a huge role in the minds of prisoners, and his latest movie takes off with this aspect. The movie centres around the moral dilemma among a group of former prisoners after kidnapping a man whose boots made the sound one of them had heard while being tortured in prison. But they are not sure whether he was indeed the torturer or not, creating the core conflict of the movie. Social filmmaker Cannes 2025 was Panahi's first trip out of Iran in 15 years after the country's top court quashed his conviction. It was also the first time in that period that he was watching one of his movies at a cinema with an audience. Panahi, who describes himself as a 'social filmmaker', says the presence of audience for his movies and the ability to see their reaction in person would have made his works a lot better. But the lack of audience didn't stop him from framing the streets of Tehran. He took his camera through the changes of Iranian society. Panahi says he always portrays the truth and reality around him, and his movies before 2022 had women in headscarves and veils as seen in the streets. He recalls hearing of the protests against the mandatory dress code sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini while being in prison, and seeing women without scarves while on a hospital visit from prison. And his movies post imprisonment showed the silent protest of women without scarves, he says, like the brave women who chose to disobey the codes. While Panahi returned to Iran to a cheering welcome after the Cannes triumph, it is still unclear what awaits him at home. He had made his latest film, like most of his works, in secrecy without submitting its script to the authorities for scrutiny as is stipulated. Iran has already sought explanation from a French envoy over a French Minister's praise of the film while conservative critics have disregarded Panahi's achievement. But Panahi says his return is in solidarity with the women who have opted to go against the orthodox moral system. 'I just made a movie,' he has said, 'which is not as courageous as what the women, who will be unknown to the world, are doing. Everyone will know if I am arrested, but no one will hear of them. That is why I must go back'.
