Pakistan-sponsored terrorism has tentacles across the world: Ambassador Sujan Chinoy on India-Africa counterterror push

Monrovia [Liberia], June 3 (ANI): Former Indian envoy Sujan Chinoy praised the success of Group 4 of the all-party MPs delegation, led by Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde, in fulfilling its objectives during visits to the UAE, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. 'The delegation was warmly received at the highest levels of government in all these countries, meeting presidents, vice presidents, foreign ministers, national security advisors, and senior parliamentary leaders. They also engaged with the Indian diaspora, journalists, social media influencers, and think tanks. The main goal was to raise awareness about the threat of global terrorism, particularly Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, in the context of Operation Sindoor. I believe this objective has been fully met, strengthening cooperation between India and African countries to combat Pakistan-based terrorism,' Chinoy said. He further highlighted the rising threat of terrorism in Africa, saying, 'The African Union comprises a very large number of countries, and recent UN reports suggest that this continent is no longer immune to global terrorism. Pakistan-sponsored terrorism has its tentacles spread across the world. The terrorist networks afflicting Africa also have linkages with networks based in Pakistan. In recent years, Africa has emerged as a major centre for global terrorism, with groups like Boko Haram in Nigeria, al-Shabaab in Somalia, Tanzania, and Kenya, as well as many others operating out of Mozambique. Particularly, the Sahel region of Africa has experienced a significant spike in terrorist incidents.' 'There's been a perceptible change in terms of the scourge of global terrorism and its extension to this part of the world. So with all these aspects being covered in the discussions, we have been successful in sensitising all our interlocutors, not only in the UAE but also in West Africa, about the need for us to work together to meet this challenge,' he added. Reflecting on his personal experience during the outreach visit, Chinoy stated, 'I have been serving the nation for the last 44 years, and I am extremely privileged to be a member of this group led by Shrikant Shinde. The group comprised many eminent members of parliament, all of them stalwarts in their own right, and it was a very humbling experience for me to be in their company for so long and to play a supportive role in the huge responsibility that had been placed on the shoulders of each member of this delegation. So it was a learning experience. It was a humbling experience, but above all, it was a tremendous privilege for me to serve in this capacity as a member of this all-party MPs delegation.' The delegation, which includes BJP MPs Bansuri Swaraj, Atul Garg, Manan Kumar Mishra, Indian Union Muslim League's E.T. Mohammed Basheer, Biju Janata Dal's Sasmit Patra, BJP leader S.S. Ahluwalia, and former Ambassador Sujan Chinoy, is part of a broader initiative by India to counter global misinformation and highlight its zero-tolerance policy on terrorism. The group is also briefing international partners on India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and its wider strategy to combat cross-border terrorism. This multi-party delegation, consisting of seven groups led by one MP each, has been initiated to counter global misinformation and highlight India's zero-tolerance policy on terrorism. (ANI)

India united against terror, No room for division: Ambassador Sujan Chinoy in Liberia

Monrovia [Liberia], June 2 (ANI): In a strong display of diplomatic outreach, India's Group 4 all-party parliamentary delegation reiterated the country's united stand against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism during their visit to Liberia, with senior leaders underscoring India's role as a global advocate for peace and counter-terrorism. Indian Ambassador to Liberia, Sujan Chinoy, emphasised the significance of the multi-nation parliamentary visit, stating it represents India's unity and collective resolve against terrorism. 'The delegation's visit to various countries is a symbol of India's unity and speaking in one voice against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. There is no question of any side or opposition in this, nor should it arise, and this delegation is also a symbol of this unity,' Chinoy said, referring to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Describing the attack as a national tragedy, Chinoy added, 'We express regret and condolences for the innocent and civilians killed by the terrorists.' The Ambassador also lauded the success of the Indian Armed Forces in retaliating against terror threats through Operation Sindoor. 'During Operation Sindoor, the Indian Armed Forces destroyed the terrorist hideouts of Pakistan and also eliminated a large number of Pakistani terrorists. This operation was a great success,' he said. He further noted, 'When Pakistan escalated the matter, the Indian Armed Forces gave a befitting reply to Pakistan and the Pakistani army. As a result, Pakistan was forced to demand a ceasefire.' Echoing this message of unity and strength, Shiv Sena MP and delegation leader Shrikant Shinde said, 'I think for the first time, a country is spreading the message of peace across the world through a delegation against terrorism. This work has been done by Prime Minister Modi.' He noted that despite decades of battling terrorism, India had emerged as a powerful nation in fields such as technology. Senior BJP MP SS Ahluwalia called out Pakistan for using religion as a justification for terrorism, noting that even Islamic nations have acknowledged this misuse. 'Pakistan thinks that the Islamic world will stand with them. We requested that the people of the UAE, that they (Pakistan) use the Quran and religion to spread terrorism. They (UAE) accepted that it (Pakistan) has hijacked the religion,' Ahluwalia stated. Other MPs from the Group 4 delegation, including BJP's Manan Mishra, Bansuri Swaraj, Atul Garg, and IUML MP Basheer, also addressed participants in Monrovia, speaking on India's moral leadership, its stand on global terrorism, and strengthening bilateral relations with Liberia. The visit forms part of India's broader diplomatic initiative to inform global partners about the country's fight against terrorism and to consolidate support for peace and regional stability. (ANI)

Indian MPs call out Pakistan, hail Modi's anti-terror diplomacy during Liberia Visit

Monrovia [Liberia], June 2 (ANI): India's Group 4 all-party delegation continued their strong messaging against global terrorism during their visit to Liberia, with the leader of the delegation, Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP SS Ahluwalia delivering remarks aimed at Pakistan's alleged role in spreading extremism MP Shinde said India is now the first country to globally promote peace through parliamentary outreach focused on fighting terrorism. 'I think for the first time, a country is spreading the message of peace across the world through a delegation against terrorism. This work has been done by Prime Minister Modi,' Shinde said while addressing participants in Monrovia during India's multi-nation parliamentary visit. Referring to India's long-standing battle against terrorism, he added, 'India has been fighting against terrorism for 4-5 decades, but still, today India is a great power in technology and other such things.' BJP veteran and Lok Sabha MP SS Ahluwalia said that Pakistan continues to misuse religion as a tool to justify terrorism and that this has been recognised even by Islamic nations. 'Pakistan thinks that the Islamic world will stand with them. We requested that the people of the UAE, that they (Pakistan) use the Quran and religion to spread terrorism. They (UAE) accepted that it (Pakistan) has hijacked the religion,' Ahluwalia said. Meanwhile, during their visit to Liberia, Members of Parliament from India's Group 4 delegation addressed issues related to global terrorism, India's moral leadership, and bilateral ties with Liberia, with BJP's Manan Mishra, Bansuri Swaraj, Atul Garg, and IUML's Basheer made remarks highlighting India's position and values. BJP Rajya Sabha MP and senior advocate Manan Kumar Mishra highlighted the disparity in education between Pakistan's elite and the general populace. He criticised the indoctrination of youth in madrassas, stating, 'In Pakistan, children of prominent politicians and army officers will study in the US, UK and big universities. In contrast, the common children are taught in Madrasas, where they learn about hatred.' Mishra emphasized the need for global unity in combating terrorism, noting that such narratives are not prevalent in other Islamic countries. IUML MP ET Mohammed Basheer, also part of the delegation led by Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde, focused on India's soft power. 'The world respects us. It is a matter of pride to be an Indian. Wherever you go, after the Prime Minister and President of that country, there is a statue of Mahatma Gandhi. They respect Mahatma Gandhi because Mahatma Gandhi is a symbol of kindness and compassion,' he said. BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj highlighted strategic ties, noting Liberia's candidature for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). 'Liberia is our old friend. It will be contesting the election for the non-permanent member of the UNSC. I think both DR Congo and Liberia will win the seats of the non-permanent members. As a good friend, Liberia will stand with India in its global fight against terrorism,' she said. Echoing a similar message, BJP MP Atul Garg urged the international community not to remain passive in the face of terrorism. 'All those who want to progress and give happiness to their people are against terrorism. We want to tell the whole world that if you remain silent now and do not support the countries that are against terrorism, then the problem of terrorism will increase,' he said. Earlier, Group 4 of the all-party delegation visited several cultural and historical sites in Liberia as part of the ongoing Operation Sindoor diplomatic outreach. The delegation began its visit by paying tribute to former Liberian President William Tubman. Shinde and other members offered floral respects at Tubman's grave. Tubman, remembered as the 'father of modern Liberia', served as the country's president for nearly three decades and is credited with modernising its institutions. Next, the group later visited the National Museum of Liberia in Monrovia. Officials from the Liberian government presented a detailed account of the country's history, culture, and heritage. Members of the delegation interacted with museum curators and were briefed on Liberia's post-independence development and political legacy. The delegation also visited the Gurudwara Sahib in Monrovia and offered prayers. This visit is part of India's broader effort to engage with international partners, brief them on India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, and seek a unified stand against terrorism globally.
