Grove students participate in safety drills and honor OKC victims
GROVE, Okla. — Buckets and history were part of the focus today at Grove High School.
We'll start with the buckets — a 'disaster bucket'.
One of the things inside is part of a fire hose that, when used on a door, won't allow the door to be opened all the way.
Amanda Pollan came up with the idea after teachers went through an active shooting drill during a 'professional development day' earlier in the school year.
She wrote a grant, and the 'Grove Rotary Club' responded by funding 220 buckets.
'And there's everything in there from fire hoses to bandages to blood stops to tourniquets, each teacher gets two tourniquets, and there's just a variety of items,' said Amanda Pollan, Grove HS English teacher.
Those buckets have been spread out across the district.
As for the aforementioned history, students, much like ones in Quapaw yesterday, learned more about the Oklahoma City bombing thanks to the 'Journey of Hope' traveling exhibit.
It's commemorating 30-years of what happened on April 19 of 1995.
Grove kids also took part in a tree planting ceremony.
Its seeds came from the 'Survivor Tree' in Oklahoma City.
