Fresh Liverpool transfer stance on Marc Guehi as Arne Slot eyes cut-price deal

Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Marc Guehi but do not agree with Crystal Palace's price tag as the defender's contract enters its final 12 months Liverpool remain keen on landing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace but do not agree with their £40million valuation given he is available for nothing come next summer. They also want to avoid a lengthy saga should they pursue the centre-half. ‌ The Eagles defender has established himself as an England regular and is one of the leading lights at Selhurst Park, captaining them on the FA Cup only months ago. However Guehi has no desire to sign a new deal in south London and could leave for free in 12 months. ‌ It would represent a huge loss for Palace, who turned down the chance to land £65m from Newcastle when they chased Guehi last summer. If Liverpool are to move for the defender then it will revolve solely around the price being quoted. ‌ The Reds have already spent £200m this summer but are keen on making additions to their defence. Guehi has a lot of positives going for him but those on Merseyside have little interest in negotiations that drag on for weeks, reports the BBC. As it stands Liverpool believe Palace's asking price of £40m is too high given his situation and the prospect of signing him for free later down the line. Tottenham, Newcastle and Chelsea have all registered varying degrees of interest in Guehi since the end of the season. The defender was once on the Blues' books and the west Londoners have made a habit of letting players go only to re-sign them later in their careers. Liverpool themselves have several moving pieces when it comes to their defensive picture. They have allowed Jarell Quansah to leave for Bayer Leverkusen this summer and, as things stand, Ibrahima Konate is out of contract next summer and has shown little interest in signing a new deal. He is thought to be keen on a move to Real Madrid. Joe Gomez is again dealing with an injury issue, which leaves Virgil van Dijk as the team's defensive leader. However landing Guehi to partner the Dutchman could prove a huge coup for the Premier League champions. Palace face the risk of losing several of their major names this summer. 12 months ago they saw Michael Olise leave and Eberechi Eze is now heavily being courted by Arsenal with the player himself keen on making the move across London. Liverpool handed huge Marc Guehi transfer boost despite Tottenham joining race

Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi has entered the final year of his contract and will be sold this summer if Liverpool or Tottenham pay the centre-back's asking price Crystal Palace know that the summer transfer window represents their final chance to cash in on Marc Guehi – and their stance plays into the hands of Liverpool. ‌ Guehi has entered the final 12 months of his current contract with Palace and has made it clear that he won't sign a new one. The England defender has attracted interest from rival Premier League sides for some time and could finally leave the south London club. ‌ Newcastle pushed hard to try and sign Guehi last summer, but ultimately backed out because they were unwilling to pay Palace's £70million asking price. With his contract expiring in less than a year, Palace have reduced their valuation, but only to around £50m. ‌ Liverpool are not the only interested party, with Mirror Football reporting on Monday that Tottenham have made it clear they are also in the running. Spurs bid £70m back in January for the centre-back, only to see it rejected by Palace, and are ready to return this summer. First-choice pairing Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven struggled with injuries last season and Romero has been linked with Atletico Madrid this summer. Spurs are potentially more likely to meet Palace's £50m valuation, with Liverpool about to take their spending to near £300m once the £79m signing of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt is over the line. Now. The Athletic report David Ornstein has given an update on the situation from a Palace perspective, suggesting they are ready to 'cash in'. He told Sky Sports News: 'We know Liverpool are keen on him at the right price. Reports today suggest Tottenham, who made a bid for him in January, don't forget, are still in the mix too. ‌ 'I think Palace would be looking to cash in rather than face losing him for free next summer, but he's got the power in his hands. He's very happy at Crystal Palace, by the sounds of it, and I don't think he'd be afraid to go to the end of his deal. It doesn't seem like a new contract is on the agenda. 'And I think Marc Guehi, with total respect to Crystal Palace, is going to be playing at the very top of Champions League football, whether it's sooner or later, and so, yeah, you suspect this is going to be one of the stories of the upcoming weeks of the transfer window.' Liverpool are in the market for a centre-back after selling Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen for £35m this summer. Meanwhile, there are also doubts surrounding the future of Ibrahima Konate, who has been strongly linked with Real Madrid after rejecting the offer of a new contract with Liverpool.

Liverpool's stance on next transfer as Premier League rivals eye same target

Liverpool are expected to pursue a defender once Hugo Ekitike's £79million transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt has been sealed but their top target also has other suitors Liverpool are ready to continue their summer spending spree with a swoop for Marc Guehi - if Crystal Palace are willing to play ball and sell their star defender for under £50million. ‌ The Reds will have spent close to £300m once a deal for Hugo Ekitike is signed off later this week. The Frenchman will join Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez through the door at Anfield as the Premier League champions bid to beef up their squad. ‌ Their interest in Guehi has been well documented and Palace's bargaining position is not as strong as it once was with the England star now inside the final year of his contract. ‌ However, rival interest in the centre back's services from Tottenham could pose a problem for Liverpool. Spurs have cash to spend and, crucially, would also be able to offer Guehi Champions League football this season. And while Liverpool may be seen as a more attractive option to Guehi given their exploits in the Premier League last term, the Reds are not willing to pay over the odds after splashing some serious cash already this summer. Mirror Football outlined on Monday that Liverpool will move for Guehi if they feel he is attainable for less than the £50m Palace are likely to demand. But if Tottenham are willing to meet said price tag then that would likely give them the edge in the race for Guehi's signature. ‌ This summer may well represent Palace's last chance to sell Guehi if he refuses to sign a contract extension. Alternatively, the player could choose to run his deal down and move on a free transfer next summer. As well as a central defender, Liverpool are likely to try and sign another attacker if Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz depart before the 1 September transfer deadline. ‌ Nunez is expected to move on and Liverpool are happy to sell following the Uruguay international's poor 2024-25 campaign, particularly now that a deal for Ekitike has been agreed. It's a different story with Diaz: Liverpool want him to stay but the Colombia star is understood to have told the club he wants to move this summer for a new challenge. Bayern Munich are expected to continue pursuing Diaz after seeing one bid for his services rejected already. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Tottenham make their move in bid to beat Liverpool to £50m summer transfer

Liverpool are on the search for a new centre-back and have been targeting a young defender to replace Jarrell Quansah, who has joined Bayer Leverkusen, but are keen on England centre-back Marc Guehi if the price is right - but now Spurs are making their move Liverpool will face competition from Tottenham if they decide to pursue a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. The Reds are expected to keep spending as Hugo Ekitike jets in for a medical on Tuesday to complete a £79m move from Eintracht Frankfurt. ‌ And a defender could be next on the list with Palace defender Guehi admired at Anfield. But Spurs have now registered their interest and can also offer the England international Champions League football this season after their Europa League success. ‌ Guehi, 25, has just one year left on his contract at Palace but it is not known if the defender wants to move on. Spurs tried to sign him in January but a late £70m bid was rejected by the Eagles. ‌ Liverpool are monitoring the situation after selling Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen for £35m this summer. But they'll only move for Guehi if the price is right and that's less than the £50m it's been suggested the Eagles would take this summer for their captain. Spurs might be more inclined to hit the £50m mark having struggled so much defensively last season when Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven struggled with injuries. Liverpool are close to spending £300m with Ekitike coming in and another forward is also on the list if Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz both leave. They do not want to sell Diaz despite Bayern Munich preparing a second bid for the Colombia winger but are more open to do a deal for Nunez. Ekitike, 23, is landing in Merseyside today the Reds will pay £69m initially with a further £10m due in add ons, with the added fees down to club and player performance across the length of his contract. Liverpool are looking to agree a six-year contract with the player to keep him at Anfield until 2031. Those details are yet to be finalised but they will be once the France U21 international arrives on Merseyside. ‌ Liverpool players and staff have headed for the Far East to continue their pre-season preparations with Hong Kong their first stop. But medical staff and sporting director Richard Hughes will remain at the club's training ground to finalise Ekitike's move. The player will fly to Asia once the deal is complete to meet up with his new team-mates. Newcastle pulled out of the race for Ekitike last week once the player informed them he had a preference to move to Liverpool. The Magpies had a £70m offer rejected but they were short on the add-ons which Frankfurt pushed for.

Liverpool's incredible XI next season with £125m Alexander Isak and more new signings

Liverpool have already spent nearly £200million on new signings this summer but the potential arrivals of Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi could nearly double that amount What a difference a year makes. Liverpool barely got the chequebook out during Arne Slot's first summer - now they can't seem to close it. ‌ You'd forgive the Reds for tightening the pursue strings after splurging £185million on three new signings in June. Florian Wirtz broke the British transfer record while Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez didn't go cheap either. ‌ But Liverpool are showing no signs of cutting back, with two Premier League stars on their radar. Starting up top, Slot's side are ramping up their pursuit of Alexander Isak. ‌ An approach was made this week, with the Swedish striker valued at an eye-watering £125m. Newcastle insist that Isak, 25, isn't for sale but it could be the beginning of a saga if Liverpool dangle the carrot. At the back, Marc Guehi is a target. Mirror Football recently reported that the Premier League champions are closing in on the England international, whose contract with Crystal Palace expires next summer. Guehi wouldn't come cheap, with the 25-year-old due to lead Palace into Europe after captaining them to a memorable FA Cup win. Part of the reasoning behind Liverpool's interest in Guehi is the fact Ibrahima Konate finds himself in a similar situation at Anfield. ‌ The Reds centre-back looks set to run down his contract amid reports that he could follow in Trent Alexander-Arnold's footsteps and join Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2026. Some fans have urged Liverpool to cash in on Konate - or even relegate him to the bench if Guehi signs. The former Chelsea prospect would slot into an already new-look defence, with Frimpong and Kerkez set to be the full-backs and Virgil van Dijk the sole remaining figure from last season. They'd still have the reliable Alisson Becker behind them in goal, with Giorgi Mamardashvili having been signed with a view to becoming his long-term successor. ‌ Continuing with Slot's trusted 4-2-3-1 formation, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister would remain as the double pivot at the base of midfield but it won't be Dominik Szoboszlai ahead of them if Wirtz is employed in his favourite position. Although the versatile German can play on the left wing or as a striker, Slot would likely get the best out of him in the No.10 role. Mo Salah is a non-discussion on the right flank while Cody Gakpo or Luis Diaz - the latter of whom reportedly wants to leave - would operate on the opposite wing. And through the middle, there's no doubt that Isak would lead the line. ‌ Negotiations for those yet-to-be-completed deals would, of course, take time and the Reds have less than a month until they open their Premier League campaign at home to Bournemouth on Friday, August 15. Liverpool's first competitive match is six days beforehand, facing Palace in Community Shield. As things stand, Guehi will be marshalling Palace's defence. Later next month, Slot and Co. make the trip to Newcastle, where they may well have to defend against Isak if they can't complete a record-breaking transfer deal before then.
