Warriors Make Contract Decisions on 2 Fan Favorites Ahead of NBA Free Agency

Warriors Make Contract Decisions on 2 Fan Favorites Ahead of NBA Free Agency originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Coming into Sunday, the Warriors were facing a deadline on a decision concerning two of their popular and high-energy reserves, 2024 draftee big man Quentin Post and Brazilian swing man Gui Santos. Neither is a threat to earn an All-NBA spot, but both have carved out a place in the league and in the hearts of Golden State fans thanks to their hustle. Advertisement Post, a second-rounder, was a surprise contributor last year, playing better as the season went on. He averaged 8.1 points and 3.5 rebounds in 16.3 minutes. Santos, meanwhile, is a high-upside, high-energy project player the team took from Brazil in 2022. In his second NBA season, he averaged 4.1 points and 3.1 rebounds in 13.6 minutes. Both Post and Santos entered the offseason with team options on the books. Neither was expensive, but in this new apron-age in the NBA, every million bucks counts. He wrote: "The Warriors will exercise their team options on Gui Santos and Quinten Post for next season, per source. Santos is on the books for $2.2 million (non-guaranteed) and Post at $1.9 million. Pair of late second round picks who have made a rotation impact." Advertisement The Warriors, of course, have one big fish to fry this offseason, and that's restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga, who has yet to agree to a deal and whose situation could, potentially, drag through the summer. Kuminga, too, is a trade candidate, and GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. said that, whether it is Kuminga or not, there is a strong chance that the Warriors end up getting involved in the trade market this summer once free agency comes into focus. "We've got some free agents that are priorities. We've got to handle that. But some of that stuff may lead into trades and other things," he said. "Obviously we got wound up into a big deal last summer, multi-team trade. Anytime you get into the free agent stuff and you start looking at exceptions and cap space, it lends itself to we'll be opportunistic. ... We'll definitely be in the mix. I think we've shown a history of doing that." Warriors exercise team options for Post, Santos, make qualifying offer to Kuminga

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The Golden State Warriors exercised team options for center Quinten Post and forward Gui Santos on Sunday and extended a qualifying offer of $7.9 million to forward Jonathan Kuminga. Post had his second-year option for $1.9 million and Santos his third-year option of $2.2 million that isn't guaranteed. Advertisement Golden State will now be able to match any offer Kuminga has from another team and also extended a qualifying offer to guard Taran Armstrong. By extending a qualifying offer to both players prior to Sunday's deadline, Golden State owns the right to match any offer sheets they may sign with another team. All will become restricted free agents on July 1. Kuminga's future with the franchise is one of the biggest storylines of the offseason for Golden State, which lost in the second round of the playoffs to Minnesota. He missed much of the season with a right ankle injury, averaging 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 24.3 minutes over 47 games with 10 starts. ___ AP NBA:

Golden State Warriors jersey history - No. 15 - Gui Santos (2023-25)

The Golden State Warriors have had over 600 players don the more than 60 jersey numbers used by their players over the more than 75 years of existence the team has enjoyed in its rich and storied history. Founded in 1946 during the Basketball Association of America (BAA -- a precursor league of the NBA) era, the team has called home the cities of Philadelphia, San Francisco, Oakland, and even San Diego. To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Warriors Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. For this article, we begin with the second of 27 players who wore the No. 15 jersey for the Warriors. That player would be Golden State forward alum Gui Santos. After starting his pro career abroad, Santos was picked up with the 55th overall selection of the 2022 NBA draft by the Warriors. The Brasilia, Brazil native would play the first two seasons of his NBA career with Golden State, and remains with the team at the time of writing. During his time suiting up for the Warriors, Santos wore only jersey No. 15 and put up 3.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. All stats and data courtesy of Basketball Reference.
