Hotel Dusk director reveals new Switch 2 exclusive 'designed for adult women'
Arc System Works has announced a bunch of new games, as the lead developer behind Guilty Gear gets frank about the gaming landscape. Developer Arc System Works is primarily known for fighting games like Guilty Gear Strive, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Granblue Fantasy Versus, but the studio has dabbled in other genres over its history. In a special showcase this week, the studio announced several new projects beyond its usual fighting game remit – with no mention of its upcoming partnership with Sony on Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. The first surprise was a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive entitled Dear Me, I Was. It's directed by Maho Taguchi, who described the game as being a 'textless adventure game', which she says is 'designed for adult women'. Taisuke Kanasaki serves as the game's art director and he's best known for directing the Hotel Dusk games on the Nintendo DS. Dear Me, I Was has a similar visual style and uses rotoscoping to create its hand-drawn watercolour visuals, whereby live-action footage is traced over and embellished. A synopsis reads: 'In this story, you will relive the life of a certain woman. Experience joy, sorrow, and growth through her oridinary and humble life. Witness the story she weaves in a life interconnected with others.' As shown in the trailer, it seems drawing will be a key gameplay mechanictoo. Dear Me, I Was is slated to launch in summer 2025 on Nintendo Switch 2. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. The other big surprise was a new action game called Damon And Baby, which was described as being part of a 'new pillar' for Arc System Works, to help them diversify outside of fighting games. Based on the trailer, Damon And Baby looks somewhere between a top-down Zelda game and an old school role-player, with a vibrant anime art style. No release date or platforms were announced. Speaking in the showcase about the project, Guilty Gear creator and Arc System Works chief creative officer, Daisuke Ishiwatari explained how Damon And Baby represents a new ethos for the studio, as it becomes more difficult for gaming companies to create new IP. 'The game market is tough now,' Ishiwatari said. 'To overcome that Arc System Works has launched a new project. It's an action game project… Let me explain. Arc System Works is a fighting game company. I'm sure most of you recognise us as so. 'However, to achieve a new brand, where we are known for quality mid-range action games, we decided to establish a new pillar outside of fighting games. 'You might be wondering why I specifically use the term mid-range. There are many reasons, but one is that even creators themselves can enjoy striving for their dreams. In recent years, with AAA blockbusters and excellent indie titles gaining popularity, it has become extremely risky for companies to create new series. 'This has led to dwindling opportunities for young creators to have their own projects. We feel the need to focus our efforts towards the future a decade from now, such as to build stable development schemes and to accumulate technology and know-how.' He goes onto describe how Guilty Gear, like Damon And Baby, had humble origins, adding: 'Our flagship title Guilty Gear has now become a million selling copy work – but its very first instalment was a small-scale project. From there, over many long years, we built a foundation that could guarantee a certain level of quality in the fighting games genre. 'Similarly we hope to take a step with this project that will eventually lead to bigger dreams. And precisely because they are mid-range titles, this will create many opportunities to produce many titles and cultivate many creators, and we hope that will become one of the future values of Arc System Works.' It's a surprisingly honest overview of the current gaming climate, especially considering he was saying this during a promotional showcase – and an approach many Western developers would be wise to take inspiration from. Elsewhere in the presentation, several titles published by Arc System Works were also revealed. These included a new Bubble Bobble game, entitled Bubble Bobble Sugar Dungeons, where the main gimmick appears to be procedurally-generated stages where the 'structure, platforms, and enemy placements change for a fresh experience every time'. Visually, it looks like a bit of a downgrade compared to the last game in the series, Bubble Bobble 4 Friends, with a mobile-ish aesthetic. Bubble Bobble Sugar Dungeons is developed by Taito and published by Arc System Works everywhere outside of Japan, and is set to be released across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Steam in winter 2025. More Trending Another new game published by Arc System Works is role-player Demon's Night Fever, developed by Drecom and SuperNiche. The latter was founded by former Nippon Ichi Software president Sohei Niikawa, who helped create the Disgaea series. Demon's Night Fever is slated to launch in 2026 and, during the presentation, Niikawa described the game's 'very, very long' genre as: 'Enemies? Allies? Kill kill kill! The more you die, the stronger you become! Raising Speedrunning Simulation RPG.' He added: 'I know you feel it's nonsense, and I feel the same when saying it myself. But that's how outrageous this game is, so we hope you look forward to it!' Other games shown at the event include previously announced titles Double Dragon Revive, Absolum from the creators behind Streets Of Rage 4, and HunterxHunter NenxImpact, a fighting game based on the popular manga. Marvel Tokon: Is It Game Over for Marvel vs. Capcom?
Marvel Rivals had been a huge win for Marvel Games, and ever since the release of the collection, fans have been hoping for a reveal of the next Marvel vs. Capcom game. As it turns out, we're getting a Marvel-themed fighting game in the same vein as MvC , but it will be a completely new series. Check out Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls : For context Arc System Works is behind fighting game titles like Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball FighterZ. By the looks of it, they've given the Marvel heroes of Tokon their own special anime spin, and we have fresh looks for characters like Captain America, Iron Man, and even Ms. Marvel. We don't know who else could be coming to the roster, but characters spotted in the background include Thor and Daredevil. The way previous Arc System games have also worked, it's possible that they could be releasing characters regularly in the form of DLC. A lot of fans have been wondering why Marvel vs. Capcom hasn't made any announcements despite the fan demand, but some speculate that it has something to do with Capcom not being pleased with the results of their latest MvC title Infinite which came out back in 2017. "it looks like Marvel Vs. Capcom 4, but due to international copyright laws, it's not." — Meester (@GoofTesticles) June 4, 2025 While some fans think that there's a chance for MvC in the future, it does look like Arc Sys has this in the bag. There's already a lot of hype for it, and I can't imagine anything Capcom could do at this point besides just do some crossover DLC with Tokon . Who knows, maybe MvC5 could happen, but Tokon is definitely going to have some implications on what happens with it. No specific release date has been announced for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls , but we should expect the title to release sometime in 2026 for PC and PS5.

Here's The ‘Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls' Confirmed Fighter List
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls PlayStation's State of Play may not have revealed The Last of Us Part III, but for certain audiences, there were some explosive premieres all the same. Chief among them was the surprise debut of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, an upcoming fighting game from Arc System Works, the developer of Guilty Gear. Previously mainly locked into the Marvel Vs. Capcom series, this is a huge turn for the comic characters in the fighting game space, a 4v4 concept with some brilliant designs and movesets on display already. So far, we have a confirmed list of eight characters coming to Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. They are: Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls There will no doubt be more added and revealed over time, but this is the initial list of confirmations. Many eagle-eyed fans have combed through the footage, mainly the backgrounds of the arenas, and found references to other Marvel characters like Dazzler, Daredevil, Thor, Wasp, Luna Snow and The Fantastic Four. Again, it's the Marvel universe, so those could just be fun easter eggs or indications of something more. Here's Arc producer Takeshi Yamanaka on the roster of Marvel characters: FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder So the idea is that they're attempting to feature heroes that are outside the expansive roster of the history of the Marvel vs. Capcom series, in addition to other fighters we've seen over the years. Ms. Marvel comes to mind as a character that fits that bill (unless I'm missing her appearance somewhere). Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will be out sometime in 2026. It will join 2025's very high-profile Marvel game, Marvel Rivals. Of the eight character reveals, Ms. Marvel, Ghost Rider and Doctor Doom aren't playable in Rivals, albeit that game adds new heroes and villains every single month. Marvel is expanding its footprint at a time when its rival DC is struggling, from the failure of Suicide Squad to the cancellation of a Wonder Woman game. DC's main fighting game series is Injustice, but it's hard to imagine Injustice 3 could match the hype we're seeing from fans here. It's a huge deal, and hopefully we'll hear and see more from the game soon. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls: When can you expect the 4v4 tag team fighter to go live?
Sony's latest State of Play showcase has revealed the most unexpected. While rumours have swirled for years about a stage fighter game from Marvel, few expected Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Soul from Arc System Works, the masters behind Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball FighterZ. Even more shocking? This time, it's not Capcom holding the reins. ALSO READ| PlayStation 5's lifespan was accidentally revealed: Here's how long you have left before PS6 comes in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is slated for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5 and PC, but the exact dates are not confirmed yet. Unlike the classic Marvel vs. Capcom series, Tōkon will be more welcoming, like the Marvel Rivals. 'From the beginning, we aimed to make MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls a title that could be enjoyed by a wide variety of players,' said Kazuto 'Pachi' Sekine, Director/Battle Director at Arc System Works. 'Generally, a team VS fighting game requires the player to learn multiple characters, but for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, you only need to master one character in order to play the game.' 'We have designed the mechanics in such a way that you can perform a variety of actions with either traditional fighting game inputs or simple inputs. With the press of a few buttons, multiple characters can appear on screen to provide backup or attack together—creating a new and exciting team VS battle experience,' he added. 'The inspiration for working on this project really came from a place of pure fandom, and wanting to say, 'Why isn't PlayStation in this space?'' said Reed Baird, Senior Producer at PlayStation Studios XDEV, per PlayStation Blog. 'So PlayStation approached us with this vision to bring Marvel back to the forefront of the tag fighting genre. And that got us really excited, because we had worked with them before on successful stuff like the Marvel's Spider-Man franchise with Insomniac,' Michael Francisco, Sr. Product Development Manager at Marvel Games, echoed the same. Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a new tag fighting game from the devs of Guilty Gear
"Avengers assemble" isn't just a call to action for superheroes; it's also the basis for a new tag fighting game. The reveal of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls closed out PlayStation's State of Play presentation ahead of Summer Games Fest 2025. PlayStation Studios and Marvel Games are teaming up with Arc System Works, the studio behind the Guilty Gear fighting game series, for this project. The game is scheduled to launch some time in 2026 on PlayStation 5 and on PC through the Steam and Epic stores. The trailer shows several members of the Marvel roster — Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Storm, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord and Ghost Rider — cycling on screen and showing off their abilities. Team-based fighting games have a long lineage, but those are commonly trios of characters controlled by a single competitor. Marvel Tōkon ups the ante with a 4v4 team system. The additional team member creates even more potential for flashy combination attacks. "One of the appeals of Marvel comics is seeing the vast cast of characters coming together to create all kinds of unique team-ups," Game Director and Lead Battle Designer Kazuto Sekine said of the design choice. "With these two ideas in mind, we concluded that creating a 4v4 team VS system would be the best way to not only create those over-the-top moments, but to further evolve the tag fighting genre." Marvel is having a bit of a moment in gaming, with the team shooter Marvel Rivals becoming a surprise sensation in recent months despite heavy competition from established titles. (Unfortunately, that success didn't save several members of the North American dev team from being laid off in February.) It should be fascinating to compare how the two genres interpret the iconic characters and their powers.
