Couple kills home guard jawan, nabbed
1 2 Ahmedabad: A man and his wife allegedly fatally stabbed a 34-year-old home guard jawan during a drunken scuffle near Delhi Darwaza late on Monday night. The accused were arrested within hours by the city crime branch on Tuesday based on CCTV footage and human intelligence. The victim, Kishan Shrimali, lived with his family in Shahpur and also worked in a garment unit. Around 10.15pm on Monday, Kishan was allegedly attacked by Badruddin alias Sabir alias Rafiq Shah (22), a resident of Shah-e-Alam, and his accomplice Neelam Prajapati (25), near Javed Seasonal Store. Shah allegedly confronted Shrimali saying, "Why are you looking at my wife?" and then, along with Prajapati, began abusing him. Shah then stabbed Kishan in the abdomen, exposing his innards, police said. The jawan was rushed to Civil Hospital where he died during treatment. Crime branch officials revealed that Shah and Prajapati had met while committing a theft nearly two years ago and have since carried out crimes together. Both were said to be heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident. Man held with firearms, live cartridges near Kaligam
Ahmedabad: The city crime branch on Thursday arrested a 27-year-old man near Kaligam for allegedly carrying illegal firearms and live cartridges. Acting on a tip-off, a detection of crime branch (DCB) team in plain clothes nabbed the suspect, identified as Sagar Thakor, a resident of Navavas in Deesa, Banaskantha. According to a complaint filed by constable Mahesh Khoda, the team received information around 5.30 pm that a man carrying firearms was walking toward New Ranip. They set up surveillance near Kaligam Auda Garden with independent witnesses and soon spotted a man matching the description. On intercepting Thakor and searching the blue bag he was carrying, officers recovered three pistols, a country-made revolver, and five live cartridges. The cache is valued at Rs 75,500. It included two unmarked pistols worth Rs 25,000 each, a smaller pistol worth Rs 20,000, a country-made revolver valued at Rs 5,000, and cartridges worth Rs 500. Starting today, no heavy vehicle allowed on bridge over Vallabhipur Branch Canal on Ahmedabad-Bhavnagar highway
The Ahmedabad Collectorate has prohibited heavy vehicles from using the bridge over Vallabhipur Branch Canal on Ahmedabad-Bhavnagar State Highway for 90 days, starting Monday midnight. The prohibitory order was issued following a communication from Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL), stating that the bridge is in a 'critical condition', and that it should be closed for heavy vehicles and alternate traffic arrangements be made till a new bridge is built. The Resident Additional Collector of Ahmedabad, B R Sagar, issued a notification in this regard on Monday. The notification also issued alternate traffic diversions for heavy vehicles from Bagodara-Fedra to Dhandhuka, from Limbdi to Fedra-Ahmedabad, from Paliyad-Ranpur to Ahmedabad-Vataman, and from Vallabhipur-Barwala to Ahmedabad-Vataman. Violation of the notification will be liable for punishment under the provisions of Gujarat Police Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Jeweller shot dead by 4 robbers, one caught
Surat: A jeweller in the Sachin area, Ashish Rajpara, was shot dead during an armed robbery by four men on Monday night, sending a shock wave through the city. A friend of the jeweller, Rohit Soni, and a vegetable vendor, Nazim Shaikh, were also shot during a struggle. The four had arrived in Surat from Bihar three days earlier and had rented an apartment. Sachin police and Surat crime branch teams have been deployed to apprehend the three suspects. According to FIR filed by the deceased's brother, Vishal Rajpara, at about 8.30pm on Monday, Ashish was at their shop in the Station Bazaar area and was preparing to close. The family own Shops 1, 2, 4 and 5 in the CV Market complex, which are run under the names Shrinath Jewellers and New Shrinath Jewellers. After closing Shops 1 and 2 on Monday evening, Vishal was reviewing the accounts. Two women staffers and Vishal's friend, Rohit Soni, were also in the shop, while Ashish was in the adjacent shop. On entering, one man pointed a gun at Vishal while the others gathered jewellery in a bag. Ashish, who was watching the CCTV feed in the adjacent shop, confronted the robbers as soon as they exited with the loot. They shot him as he approached. During the struggle, a bullet struck also Rohit Soni's leg. Nazim Shaikh, a vegetable vendor who had a cart outside the shop, also confronted the robbers and was shot in the thigh. Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) NP Gohil told TOI: "Of the four robbers, three were carrying country-made pistols. Sachin police charged the accused with robbery and murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and offences under the Arms Act and Gujarat Police Act.

Video: Parent stabs Ahmedabad teacher over collecting school-leaving certificate
A parent in Ahmedabad's school attacked a teacher with a knife on the head following an argument over the date for collecting a school-leaving Ahmed Ansari, whose daughter studies in Class 6 at the school, had arrived to collect her school-leaving certificate. After meeting the school principal, Sameer Ghachi, he approached Shabbir Sheikh, a clerk who also teaches at the told Ansari that he had to come on Friday to collect the documents.
