PWD Cancels Tender For CM House Revamp
New Delhi: Public Works Department has cancelled a tender worth Rs 60 lakh for the renovation work at chief minister Rekha Gupta's official residence, citing "administrative reasons", stated official documents. The proposed work, according to the official document, was "renovation and upgradation of bungalow number 1, including replacement of electrical wiring, fittings and fixtures, and execution of various miscellaneous electrical works". Sources, however, said the renovation project faced significant backlash, particularly on social media platforms, which influenced the decision. PWD has allotted two bungalows to Gupta on Raj Niwas Marg, one for her residence and the other as the chief minister's official camp office. CM inaugurated the camp office last week. According to the tender issued on June 28, the proposed additions also included 10 floodlights, chandeliers, wall illumination fixtures and an electric chimney. Bids were to be opened on July 4. According to the PWD tender, the total project cost of the first phase was Rs 60 lakh, which included supply, installation and commissioning of these units and appliances, with an execution period of 60 days. Twenty-three premium energy-efficient ceiling fans, 16 wall fans and 24 two-tonne airconditioners were to be installed, and the airconditioning alone would have cost around Rs 11,11,342, the now-cancelled tender stated. For illumination, several lamps, wall lighters, hanging lights and three large chandeliers were to be added to the bungalow, which would have cost Rs 6,03,939, according to the tender. Besides the electric chimney, the kitchen appliances to be added included a gas hob with electromagnetic burners, a 20-litre microwave, an LCD display toast grill and a water purifier. The tender also called for six geysers, a washing machine, a dishwasher and a larger RO water plant with a capacity for processing 50 litres per hour. Five 4K ultra HD LED smart television sets—four 55-inch units and one 65-inch unit—were also listed. A new surveillance system consisting of 14 cameras was to be set up and 10 LED floodlights were to be added to the compound for security, along with a new intercom system. BJP had built a strong campaign during the Delhi Assembly elections in Feb over the renovation of AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal's 6 Flagstaff Road official bungalow during his tenure as the chief minister. Branding the renovated bungalow as "Sheesh Mahal", BJP alleged that the expensive modifications cost over Rs 50 crore and showed that AAP had given up on its principle of "representing the common man and austerity".

Cyber cons dupe man of Rs 73.65L
Lucknow: A Sushant Golf City resident filed a complaint at the cybercrime police station, alleging online fraud of over Rs 73.65 lakh by cybercriminals posing as share trading advisors. According to the FIR, the complainant, Kuldeep Raj Gupta, received a WhatsApp call on June 24 from a person identifying himself as Ajay (using a Rajkot number), who offered lucrative returns through stock trading. Three days later, another individual, Yuvraj Jain (using an Ujjain number), contacted him with similar claims. Both offered trading tips in exchange for a 20% commission. Ajay later introduced Gupta to a third person named Pradeep from Surat, who claimed to have high trading limits. Gupta was asked to share his Aadhaar and PAN details to open a trading account. He was then persuaded to transfer funds to two bank accounts—one with Airtel Payments Bank and the other with IDFC First Bank—for trading purposes. Believing their claims, Gupta transferred the money in multiple transactions from his and his wife's bank accounts, including Rs 54 lakh via RTGS on July 1 and another Rs 9.99 lakh on July 2, totalling Rs 73,65,009. However, when he demanded account statements and a refund, the accused became abusive and refused to return the money. Gupta then approached the cyber police with transaction details and bank statements. Cyber cell SHO Brijesh Yadav said that an FIR has been registered and an investigation is underway.

Worried about catching the flu this season? This health expert has you covered
It can start with feeling tired. Maybe you're just run down. Then the sore throat, runny nose or headache kicks in, sometimes accompanied by fever, muscle aches and coughing. Before you know it, you can barely lift your head. In the midst of winter, it feels like everyone is getting sick right now, with infections ranging from the common cold to respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) to the flu. While all three are caused by viruses, flu and RSV symptoms are typically longer lasting and more severe than a cold, with some cases developing into serious complications and even death. While COVID was the leading cause of respiratory infection-related deaths from 2023 to 2025, the number of deaths attributed to influenza, or the flu, are on the rise this year, creeping up towards 2019 figures. Although the flu is no fun for anyone, some people in the community are more vulnerable than others. Susceptible groups include children under five years, adults over the age of 65 years and those with underlying health issues, especially respiratory conditions. Clinical director of public health at Sydney Local Health District Dr Leena Gupta says there are some simple ways to minimise your chances. And if you do succumb, she also has some advice for what will – and won't – get you back on your feet. Loading Get vaccinated It's not too late to be vaccinated. While some businesses offer free vaccinations to staff early in the season, you can still be vaccinated for the flu at participating pharmacies or your GP. Dr Gupta says it is still by far the best option for staying well this season. 'One of the important things we tell people is to get vaccinated,' she says. 'It is about protecting yourself and preventing transmission to people who are more vulnerable.'

Bengal duo helped ISI set up honey trap
Kolkata: Two men, Mukesh Rajak and Rakesh Kumar Gupta, arrested by the Bengal STF from East Burdwan for reportedly helping Pakistan-backed ISI operatives, played an important role in setting up honey traps. The ISI agents used the WhatsApp numbers and OTPs, shared by Rajak and Gupta, to pose as women and then trap men from defence and other crucial fields. While the two denied direct links with ISI, they confessed to transmitting information through SIM and OTPs to contacts in Delhi and Mumbai. Investigators found substantial financial transactions in both personal and organisational accounts, now under scrutiny. Both their mobiles provided leads, said police. "Rajak and Gupta have been involved in these activities for about three years, establishing their base in East Burdwan early this year," said a senior STF officer. "We are examining their phone records, bank accounts and organisational documents to uncover the full extent of their operations."
