Would you let your kids sleep on floor?: Andhra HC raps officials over poor conditions in hostels
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court, comprising Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Cheemalapati Ravi, expressed strong displeasure over the negligence of officials in providing basic amenities in social welfare, BC, and Gurukul hostels across the state. The court, hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Kakinada resident Keethineedi Akhil Sriguru Teja in 2023, criticised the lack of regular inspections by district-level officials and the deplorable conditions in these hostels. The court questioned how officials could remain unaware of the dire situation in hostels and demanded accountability for the crores of rupees allocated annually for their maintenance. 'Are works being carried out solely for the benefit of contractors?' it enquired. The bench expressed dismay over the absence of basic facilities like beds, forcing students to sleep on the floor, and rhetorically asked if officials would allow their children to endure such conditions.

Director Ashwin Kumar On Mahavatar Narsimha: ‘Our Gods Are The True Heroes Of Bharat'
Director Ashwin Kumar says Mahavatar Narsimha will revive Dharma and Shastric learning. The film releases in 3D and five languages on July 25, 2025. Filmmaker Ashwin Kumar is on a mission—not just to make a movie, but to reawaken a cultural consciousness that he believes has been fading for generations. As the director of the upcoming mythological epic Mahavatar Narsimha, Kumar is steering a cinematic journey deeply rooted in India's spiritual and philosophical legacy, hoping to bring children and young adults closer to their Dharma. 'Since Bharat was colonized, we must end our mental colonization by reviving Shastric studies, even without the traditional Gurukul system," Kumar stated. 'It is crucial that the younger generation learns about the various darshans, perspectives, narratives, and themes of our theology and texts in schools. Parents today are busy, and children remain uneducated in these matters, often forming confused ideas and feeling disconnected or even ashamed of their own Dharma." For Kumar, Mahavatar Narsimha is more than a retelling of Lord Vishnu's fourth avatar—it's a tribute to the timeless wisdom of India's ancient scriptures. He envisions the film as a tool for cultural and spiritual revival, especially for those who have grown up in an educational system that rarely touches upon the country's rich mythological and theological heritage. 'Educating them properly will instill pride in our culture and heritage," he said. 'Our Mahavatar Narsimha represents this legacy, a tribute to our Shastras and Dharma, bringing them back to the mainstream. Our Gods are the true heroes, and by engraving their stories in the minds of the youth, we help them find pride, understanding, logical clarity, and inner peace through our sacred texts." The film marks the beginning of a decade-long animated franchise presented by Hombale Films and Kleem Productions. The ambitious series will chronicle the ten divine avatars of Lord Vishnu, with the release roadmap laid out as follows: Mahavatar Narsimha (2025), Mahavatar Parshuram (2027), Mahavatar Raghunandan (2029), Mahavatar Dhawkadhesh (2031), Mahavatar Gokulananda (2033), and the two-part finale, Mahavatar Kalki Part 1 (2035) and Part 2 (2037). Mahavatar Narsimha, produced by Shilpaa Dhawan, Kushal Desai, and Chaitanya Desai under Kleem Productions and presented by the powerhouse Hombale Films, promises to blend visual spectacle with spiritual substance. Set to release in 3D and across five Indian languages, the film will hit theatres on 25th July 2025. First Published: July 17, 2025, 12:33 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. MyVoice: Views of our readers 17th July 2025
Kudos to The Hans India It is indeed great that in the fiercely competitive world of media, particularly when the electronic media is getting louder and creating nuisance, The Hans India has withstood everything to successfully complete 14 glorious years. My association with the daily goes back to the year of its launch. It is delightful that many of my thoughts have found a place in its columns. Wishing many more successful years to Team Hans. N Nagarajan, Hyderabad More glory to the media 'all-rounder' I wish more glory to The Hans India that has completed 14 years since inception. A defining factor is that it covers news with equanimity and comes up with rational analysis and solutions without any bias or leanings, whatsoever, including its edit page, Young Hans, national and world news, education, research and development, sports, politics and womenia, et al to earn it the distinction of being an all-rounder. Most importantly, the Hans India has never gone for sensational journalism, while its satire-laced cartoons are quite educative and thought-provoking. PVP Madhu Nivriti, Secunderabad-61 A must in all TG and AP public libraries It is really a proud moment for any newspaper to step into its 15th year of existence. The Hans India, which took off 14 years back, has been in the public domain and winning accolades for its wonderful all-round coverage all these years. It is one of the few newspapers that runs readers' columns even on Sundays. Though it focuses on local issues, it also gives due weightage to national and global issues, including sports and the world of entertainment. A unique aspect is that it maintains a regular column on women. On this occasion, I urge the management of the daily to impress upon the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments on the need to have the paper in public libraries across the two Telugu speaking states. Many librarians are shying away from subscribing to it, despite its readership value, citing 'resource crunch'. Pratapa Reddy Yaramala, Tiruvuru (AP) Check food poisoning cases in Gurukuls The news item 'KTR blames the government for the deaths of Gurukul students in Telangana (The Hans India July 16) makes for disturbing reading. He has alleged that over thousand food poisoning cases were reported across the State, and there were over 100 deaths of Gurukul students, over the past one year. It is a 'serious issue' and the government of the day should address it on a priority basis. TSWREIS and TTWRES are the two societies primarily responsible for overseeing Gurukula patasalas, which also feeds students from marginalised sections. The incompetent government departments are to be blamed for providing rotten rice and contaminated drinking water, which are resulting in many food poisoning cases. It will be a good augury if NGOs like Akshayapatra Foundation and Arunodaya Trust are roped in to be assured of delivering nutritious food to the hapless students, who, otherwise, live in horrifying conditions. Pothole-ridden road near hospital puts lives at risk in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: The road outside a prominent multi-speciality hospital, Prasad Hospital, in Pragathi Nagar, Kukatpally, has become a serious threat to public safety. Deep potholes dot the entire stretch on the HMT Hills Road, causing daily distress to patients, schoolchildren and commuters. 'This vital road not only provides access to the hospital but also connects students to Satavahana schools and several Gurukul institutions in the area. Despite the heavy usage of this stretch linking Bachupally, JNTU-Hyderabad and Nizampet, it has remained in a state of disrepair for months,' Sai Teja, a civic activist, told the TNIE. 'Just imagine trying to bring a patient in an ambulance over this road. These potholes are leading to slow movement of ambulances, risking the lives of many during emergencies,' Anitha Reddy, an attendant at the hospital told the TNIE. The situation has worsened with the onset of monsoon rains. Water stagnates in the potholes, making it hard to assess their depth, increasing the chances of skidding and falls.
