Viktor Gyokeres 'tells friends and family his next club' after Arsenal and Manchester United bids
Viktor Gyokeres has reportedly told friends and family that he will sign for Arsenal this summer. The Sporting striker is at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war this summer and the Gunners are right in the mix to lure the former Coventry forward back to England. Advertisement LIVE BLOG: All the latest transfer news and rumours Standard Sport understands that Arsenal are in talks with both Gyokeres and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko over a summer deal, before making a decision on one as Mikel Arteta closes in on his much-desired striker. Manchester United are also interested in Gyokeres, who has made no secret of his desire to leave Sporting this summer after two prolific seasons. Sporting are demanding at least €70million (£59.6m) to begin negotiations over a fee, and reports last week suggested that Arsenal are now clear favourites to sign Gyokeres despite seeing an opening bid worth €55m (£47m) reportedly rejected. Advertisement Gyokeres has set his sights on playing Champions League football, which has led to him 'officially rejecting' United and a reunion with former Sporting head coach Ruben Amorim. There were suggestions from Gyokeres' camp that the player and Sporting has a 'gentleman's agreement' to sell for around £59m, which prompted a remarkable denial from club president, Frederico Varandas aimed at Gyokeres' agent, Hasan Cetinkaya. Even so, talkSPORT report on Thursday that Gyokeres' confidence is so high that he has told friends and family that he expects to be an Arsenal player next season.

Viktor Gyokeres 'officially rejects' Manchester United as Arsenal 'prepare second bid'
Viktor Gyokeres has "officially" rejected Manchester United and a reunion with former Sporting head coach Ruben Amorim, after Arsenal reportedly made their interest clear. That's according to Portuguese outlet Record, who report on Saturday morning that United have been made aware of Gyokeres' decision to snub a move to Old Trafford after talks with the player's agents. Advertisement LIVE BLOG: All the latest transfer news and rumours With Sporting demanding at least €70million (£59.6m) to begin negotiations over a fee, Record express doubts United could afford to sign Gyokeres ahead of the likes of Arsenal. United have already spent £62.5m on Matheus Cunha and hope to also add Bryan Mbeumo, who could cost even more with Tottenham now in the mix. 'The footballer's agents have officially told Ruben Amorim's club that he is no longer an option for the striker,' Record reports. 'United made several contacts over the last week, as we wrote, but with Arsenal's advance, this possibility lost strength and, in the last few hours, it has fallen away completely. (London Standard) 'The Red Devils made an offer to the Swede but did not present arguments capable of convincing him. Gyökeres prefers Arsenal, who are preparing a second offer, after Sporting rejected 55+10. Advertisement 'Although they had not completely ruled out United up until this stage, the player's representatives never considered the Manchester club as a priority option.' Arsenal are now thought to be clear favourites to sign Gyokeres, though the club retain interest in Benjamin Sesko for their vacant striker spot. The Gunners and RB Leipzig have been in talks for some time over a deal before reports of a rejected bid for Gyokeres emerged. A second bid is now reportedly incoming from Arsenal.

Viktor Gyokeres ‘has Arsenal change of heart' after Manchester United contact
The striker is expected to leave Portugal this summer and is at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war between the two Premier League giants. It was reported earlier in June that Gyokeres had "officially" rejected United and a reunion with former Sporting head coach Ruben Amorim following Arsenal making their interest clear. Portuguese outlet Record claimed that United have been made aware of Gyokeres' decision to snub a move to Old Trafford after talks with the player's agents. Gyokeres was then said to have told friends and family that he will sign for Arsenal this summer, despite the Gunners being in talks with both Sporting and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko over summer deals, before making a decision on one. Sporting are demanding at least €70million (£59.6m) to begin negotiations over a fee, and recent reports suggested that Arsenal were clear favourites to sign Gyokeres despite seeing an opening bid worth €55m (£47m) reportedly rejected. But The Mirror now claim that United are back in the frame, and seen by some as the most likely destination for Gyokeres despite being unable to offer Champions League football. Arsenal are currently wrapping up deals for Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga, for a combined £15million, and are expected to step up moves for a striker next week after the PSR deadline passes on June 30. The Gunners are said by some to favour Sesko, who could also prove a cheaper option with Sporting digging in their heels over an asking price for Gyokeres. That has reportedly led Gyokeres to reassess other options, of which United is the most prominent. The Mirror report that intermediaries have made contact on the player's behalf to inform United of his change of heart and that is ready to move to Old Trafford.

Viktor Gyokeres makes Man Utd decision asArsenal prompt transfer U-turn
Manchester United and Arsenal are both on the hunt for a new No.9 this summer and Viktor Gyokeres is desperate to leave Sporting Lisbon for a big-money move Viktor Gyokeres has put Manchester United into pole position for his signature. The Swedish hitman has U-turned on making Arsenal his priority - re-opening the door on a reunion with Ruben Amorim. Gyokeres, 27, is at the heart of the summer's messiest transfer saga. He is desperate to leave Sporting Lisbon, having scored 54 goals in 52 games last season. Gyokeres wants to test himself in one of Europe's biggest leagues, but hasn't found clubs rushing to knock down his door. Sporting insist they've not had any offer put their way, while club president Frederico Varandas has accused the player's agent of falsely claiming the club would accept £59million to sell the player as part of a 'gentleman's agreement'. The Gyokeres camp believe Sporting are asking too much money - with claims they're asking for fees totalling £86m - for a player who has scored 97 goals in 102 games since moving to Portugal from Coventry City two years ago. As such, there's been a major falling out among the two parties and claims that Gyokeres won't return for pre-season. But Gyokeres isn't getting the interest he perhaps felt he would this summer. He turned down the prospect of a move to Saudi Arabia last month. Al-Hilal made a £55m offer that was rejected by Sporting, but Gyokeres made clear he had no intention of moving to the Middle East, wanting to continue to compete in Europe. Real Madrid have made clear they don't want to spend big money to take him to the Bernabeu, as they seek a back up No.9 in the mould of former striker Joselu. Liverpool have been linked in recent days, but the Premier League champions have no interest in the Swede. Juventus have been linked, but the Italian side aren't flush with cash and no bid has been forthcoming, while Bayern Munich have Harry Kane and Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique isn't keen. Nor is his former club, Barcelona. That has left Arsenal and Manchester United front and centre, and the belief had been that Gyokeres' No.1 choice was a move to North London. The Gunners can offer Champions League football and a likely title challenge next season. But while new sporting director Andrea Berta has been testing the waters with the Gyokeres camp and Sporting, Arsenal's preferred No.9 option is RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. A £60m deal is, at this stage, most likely for Arsenal and the RBL forward. As such, Gyokeres is increasingly aware that his best bet this summer may be to reunite with former boss Amorim and intermediaries have made contact on the player's behalf to signal he is ready to join the Premier League under-performers. However, he may have to play a waiting game with United too. Matheus Cunha is already through the door at Old Trafford and Bryan Mbeumo is expected next, but United must offload before they can spend big again. United are open to selling pretty much any member of their first team squad if the right money is offered, but they're particularly keen to quickly get rid of Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho - none of whom are part of Amorim's plans. They're hopeful that Real Betis will present an acceptable offer for Antony sooner rather than later too. Then, United will be back pushing to land the No.9 that has been earmarked after last season's dire campaign. And Gyokeres is finally ready for that to be him.
