Viktor Gyokeres has already shown his true character with clear message to Mikel Arteta

Arsenal are now inches away from clinching the signing of Viktor Gyokeres, who has already shown Mikel Arteta the sort of player and character he'll be for the Gunners Vikor Gyokeres has already shown Mikel Arteta his willingness to go the extra mile as his transfer to Arsenal inches ever closer. The Swede has been at the centre of the long-standing saga with the Gunners locked in negotiations with Sporting CP over his future. ‌ While the two clubs were thought to be nearing an agreement worth £54.8million plus a further £8.6m in add-ons, the move was delayed over discussions on how to structure the bonuses included in the deal. ‌ The Premier League side have since come a step closer to securing the striker's signature with the two clubs nearly in complete agreement over the transfer, according to The Athletic. ‌ Discussions to conclude talks are reportedly set to start imminently with only the finishing touches needed to finalise negotiations, given the Swedish international has already agreed personal terms with the north London outfit. While Gyokeres' obscene goal-scoring record is well-known to his impending future club and the rest of European football, the work he puts in behind the scenes hasn't garnered the same level of attention. Gyokeres' rise to prominence, thanks to scoring 97 goals in 102 games for the Portuguese champions, saw him recently named the June-July cover star for Vogue Scandinavia. As part of the photoshoot for the publication, the striker opened up about his workout routine at home and how he's maximised his personal space to produce the best results on the pitch. Arteta would certainly be impressed with the forward's consistent routine and the work ethic he possesses as he explained on their YouTube channel:"I think physicality is a big part of my game. I always need to maintain it and keep getting better. "Yeah I do my pull ups, push ups, sometimes shoulder press. Sometimes after a game where I need to rest my legs, I can focus on the upper body so if I don't do it with the team, I can do the exercises at home. ‌ "So that's why I have my gym here, and I have the possibility to do it at home. So that's what I enjoy on a daily basis." The confirmation of Gyokeres will make it five major signings for Arsenal this summer after a season where they finished second in the league for the third campaign in a row. The Gunners have already brought in Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard and Noni Madueke, while they reportedly remain keen on bringing in Eberechi Eze and Cristhian Mosquera this summer. They've spent close to £120m during the summer transfer window as they look to close the gap on Premier League champions Liverpool. They've also invested heavily with Arne Slot close to adding Hugo Ekitike to fellow new signings Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Lewis-Skelly's priceless reaction as Arsenal close in on Gyokeres transfer

Myles Lewis-Skelly couldn't hide his excitement as news spread that Arsenal had made a major breakthrough in their attempts to capture Viktor Gyokeres this evening. Speculation surrounding Gyokeres' future has dominated the backpages across this summer's transfer window, with Arsenal and Manchester United in a two-way race to bring the prolific Swede to the Premier League. Having already brought in Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga, Arsenal appeared to be making significant progress in their efforts to land Gyokeres, their primary attacking target. After agreeing personal terms with Gyokeres' camp, a deal worth €63.5million (£54.8m) – plus €10m (£8.6m) in add-ons – was reportedly struck with Sporting for the 27-year-old forward. The Portuguese champions, though, have refused to be bullied into an agreement for Gyokeres and have been standing firm over the details of add-on payments – which left the proposed move on the verge of collapse. However, The Athletic now report that a resolution is close to being found and talks are at an advanced stage, with the two clubs expected to shake hands on a total agreement 'imminently'. It's claimed the north London giants are increasingly confident of getting their man and have been putting the finishing touches on a contract for the Sporting sensation, which is set to run through to June 2030. Given Arsenal fans have been crying out for an out-and-out No.9 and goalscorer, it's fair to say the latest reports surrounding Gyokeres have got some supporters a little excited on social media. Some, perhaps prematurely, have been sending welcome messages to Gyokeres, while others have begun practicing the striker's trademark celebration in preparation for his arrival at the Emirates. Among those was Arsenal youngster Lewis-Skelly, who was filmed performing the two-hands-over-the-mouth gesture while proudly holding up Fabrizio Romano's 'HERE WE GO!' Instagram post (below) on his phone. It's understood Gyokeres is keen to undergo the relevant medical tests as quickly as possible in order to play a role for Arsenal on the club's pre-season tour of Asia. Facing the media after touching down in Singapore, Mikel Arteta remained tight-lipped over Gyokeres, insisting he still had nothing 'concrete' to offer. Asked how close Arsenal were to signing Gyokeres, Arteta told reporters: 'You know I cannot comment on any player that is not part of our group yet. 'When we have something concrete to offer in any case, to any player, we will do that.' Arteta did, though, confirm that the club were working diligently behind the scenes to strengthen areas of the squad that are currently lacking. 'There's still a long time in the window and we are seeking,' the Spaniard added. 'We are short in terms of numbers and we have to improve the depth and the quality of the squad. 'We are constantly looking in the market but we've got to focus on the players that we actually have, work with them and I'm very pleased with what I've seen so far in the first ten to 15 days.' The Arsenal head coach stressed that he was 'very pleased' with the support he had received from sporting director Andrea Berta in this summer's transfer market. 'Ideally, you want it [all transfer business] for day one of pre-season so we've done very, very well so far,' he continued. 'I'm very pleased with the way the club is supporting the necessities and improvements that we required in the team. 'I think Andrea [Berta] and the team are doing an excellent job as well, trying to push everything forwards. 'There's still a long time to go in the window and we have a lot of hopes that we can still improve the team. We're going to continue to try to do that.' Arsenal to finally sign Viktor Gyokeres with imminent transfer one step away

Arsenal are finally closing in on the signing of Viktor Gyokeres, with a conclusion to lengthy transfer talks now "imminent". The Gunners have been locked in talks to snap up the in-demand Sweden striker for weeks, but his club Sporting Lisbon have been playing hard ball over his signature. At one point Gyokeres threatened to go on strike amid the lack of progress over a deal, with Sporting adamant they would not sell him on the cheap. The striker has long been Mikel Arteta's number one transfer target this summer after watching him score 54 goals in 52 games last season, with many of Europe's elite keeping their eye on him. But Arsenal quickly emerged as frontrunners, even with Manchester United rumoured to still be in the frame - after Gyokeres' old manager Ruben Amorim moved to Old Trafford. Arsenal have already agreed a fee with Sporting - understood to be around £55m plus a further £8.6m in add-ons. The delay is said to be caused by the structuring of those bonuses that have been included in the deal. Now, however, the Athletic have reported that both parties are now "on the verge if a total agreement for the player", with a conclusion to talks "imminent". It says only "finishing touches" are needed to wrap up the negotiations, with Arsenal already agreeing personal terms with the player. Gyokeres will sign a five-year deal at the Emirates and become the fifth major signing through the door this summer, following on from Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard and Noni Madueke. Meanwhile, it's believed Sporting are already eyeing up Gyokeres' replacement after targeting Almeria striker Luis Javier Suarez. Arsenal's new transfer chief Andrea Berta has been in Portugal this month working hard on bringing Gyokeres to north London as he aims to give Arteta a team that challenge both Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League title. Viktor Gyokeres transfer to Arsenal 'imminent' after Man Utd snub

Arsenal are finally on the verge of completing a deal to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to reports. The Gunners have been in talks with Sporting throughout the summer and a deal worth €63.5million (£54.8m) plus €10m (£8.6m) in add-ons had been agreed earlier this month. However, Sporting have been standing firm over the make up of the add-on payments and the deal appeared to on the brink of collapse last week. However, The Athletic reports that talks between Arsenal and Sporting to resolve the add-on payment dispute are 'extremely advanced stage' and a final agreement is now 'imminent'. The report adds that Gyokeres' contract with Arsenal, which will run until 2030, has already been prepared. Manchester United had been offered the chance again to sign Gyokeres after talks between Arsenal and Sporting stalled, however, the 27-year-old made it clear that Mikel Arteta's side was the only destination he wanted. More Trending Gyokeres, meanwhile, has refused to report back to pre-season training with Sporting and has effectively gone on strike in order to force through his move to Arsenal. The Sweden international is currently in Stockholm, while a removal van was seen outside of Gyokeres' home in Lisbon last Thursday. In an interview with France Football this month, Gyokeres said of his future: 'It's football, you never know. I'm not thinking about it, we'll see what happens. 'If something is going to happen, it will happen. The most important thing for me is to play for a club that really wants me.' For more stories like this, check our sport page.
