BJP MLA criticises Cong for protocol violation Mys Samavesha
M ysuru: Krishnaraja MLA TS Srivatsa criticised Congress' Sadhana Samavesha held in the city on Saturday, alleging it was a "power show" organised under the guise of a govt event. Speaking to reporters here on Monday, he accused the Congress of breaching protocol and misusing taxpayer money for political gains. He said that BJP is ready for an open public debate on development. The BJP MLA said that the invitation for the event, organised in the name of the state govt, failed to mention former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, a Rajya Sabha MP, while including AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Surjewala's name. He also noted that other than Union minister HD Kumaraswamy's name, other central ministers' names were omitted, calling it a deliberate oversight. He highlighted central govt contributions to Mysuru, including Rs 2,627 crore for national highway projects, funding for railway underpasses, Rs 1,393 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and over Rs 10,000 crore under the Mudra Yojana, benefiting 5,38,000 people in the district. He challenged the Congress to a public debate, asserting that they falsely claimed the Centre provided no funds to Mysuru.

Crises in BJP, Congress may help JDS seize opportunity in Karnataka local body elections
BENGALURU: With ruling Congress and main opposition BJP facing crises over the change in leadership, the regional party JDS is quietly organising its rank and file to make an impact during elections to local bodies, including BBMP, that are likely to be announced in November-December. To make the best of the present advantage and opportunity, JDS may even go it alone in the polls, party sources said. Its alliance partner BJP is struggling to put its house in order with the demand for a change in the state party president post. On the other hand, Congress is facing challenges with party MLAs openly expressing their displeasure over the functioning of the government and its ministers. JDS has now launched a 57-day membership drive, focusing on the Old Mysuru region, which has been its traditional Vokkaliga bastion, and North Karnataka, where party patriarch HD Deve Gowda and his grandson Nikhil Kumaraswamy are touring to garner support for the party, said Nagaraju, a party functionary. Nikhil told reporters in Mandya on Sunday, 'I don't agree that there will be a political revolution in the state (as predicted by Cooperation Minister KN Rajanna), but people will throw away the Congress government after it completes three years in office. I toured Raichur district and grasped the pulse of the people. Not only JDS workers, but every person in the state feels (Union Minister for Heavy Industries) HD Kumaraswamy should become CM in 2028.' Gowda's intervention to get the Centre to announce the minimum support price for mangoes, helping farmers, and Kumaraswamy's performance as a union minister to the satisfaction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi have boosted the morale of party workers, party sources said. 'If Siddaramaiah steps down as CM, the government will get destabilised. But it is too early to predict whether Vokkaligas will rally behind Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar if he becomes CM,' said a JD(S) sympathiser, who is also a Vokkaliga. The priority of JDS is zilla and taluk panchayat polls to keep its base intact, especially in the Old Mysuru region and expand it across the state, another party functionary said. JDS Legislature Party leader B Suresh Babu said the party will have an edge in the local body polls because of the crisis in Congress. 'JDS is likely to continue its alliance with BJP and it will be decided ahead of polls. It will help both parties,' he added.

HD Deva Gowda asks PM Modi to help farmers as mango rates crash, weather hurts
BENGALURU: Former prime minister HD Deve Gowda on Sunday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, seeking the Centre's intervention in helping Karnataka's mango cultivators, who have suffered a double-whammy of unpredictable prices and bad weather. Karnataka is a major contributor to mango production globally, Gowda pointed out, requesting the Centre to initiate a Price Deficiency Payment and Market Intervention Scheme for immediate fruit procurement in Karnataka through NAFED and NCCF, which will support farmers and alleviate rural distress. 'Further, mango is one of the major horticultural crops of Karnataka, cultivated over an area of 1.39 lakh hectares, particularly in Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chikkaballapura, Kolar, and Ramanagara districts, with an estimated output of 8-10 lakh tonnes during the rabi season. However, due to inclement weather and diseases, the mango yield has dropped to less than 30 per cent this year, according to farmers,' Gowda wrote. 'Prices fell from Rs 12,000 per quintal to Rs 2,000, while the cost of cultivation was Rs 5,466 a quintal. This has financially stressed the farmers, with many small and marginal mango growers unable to cover even basic costs,' he elaborated. He said Andhra Pradesh's ban on Totapuri mangoes from entering Chittoor district, which borders Karnataka, has disrupted the supply chain, risking post-harvest losses for the state's border mango growers, noting: 'This has created tension among the mango growers leading to protests in many districts, especially Kolar and Chikkaballpura.' Gowda also mentioned that the Karnataka Chief Minister and Chief Secretary have asked the AP government to revoke the ban immediately.
