Glorious Goodwood day two: Betting odds and race rundown
AFTER an exhilarating day one of the Qatar Goodwood Festival, we are set fair for another cracking day of racing. Field Of Gold, who has been nothing but impressive in winning his Group 1s this season, takes on his elders today and is a short price to take care of them. But will it all be plain sailing for this superstar miler? Win singles and each way bets from the best horse racing betting sites: 1:20 Coral Pipped At The Post Winners Handicap (3yo 0-105) - 1m4f Joseph O'Brien sends over Omni Man on the back of his fifth-place finish at Royal Ascot. He may have gotten closer if it wasn't for slight interference over two furlongs out, and he looks sure to be in the mix. Sing Us A Song was behind Omni Man at Royal Ascot, and there is no apparent reason why he will finish in front of the Joseph O'Brien runner here. The progressive KURAKKA winning run came to an end with a staying on third at Newmarket, and it was clear that he was crying out to be stepped back up in trip again. His Newmarket third was over one mile two furlongs, and this trip, which he claimed the second of his two wins, looks his ideal distance now. He's been hit with a two-pound raise for his latest run, which seems harsh, but even so, he will be the one running to hopefully run down the leaders. He's unexposed over this distance and has a massive chance of getting back in the winner's enclosure. 2024 Winner: French Duke J: James Doyle T: Roger Varian Odds: 16/5Fav Our pick: KURAKKA 1:55 Group 3 HKJC World Pool Oak Tree Stakes (3yo+) - 7f Bright Thunder arrives here on the back of an impressive win at Listed level in France. That win didn't come out of turn as he finished second to the now Group 2 winner and Group 1 placed Crimson Advocate. She's given massive respect here and can find the required improvement to be involved. Tabiti took her form to a new level when a two-length third at Royal Ascot. That was on the back of a 252-day break, and if she doesn't bounce after that run, then she is a leading player. Betty Clover was pulled up at Royal Ascot and can be given another chance to redeem herself. Silver Ghost is well worth a crack at this level and can go well at big odds. However, a chance is taken on ARABIAN DUSK at a price. She ran as well as could have been expected in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup, and that race has been working out well since. She has since finished fourth in a Group 3, and ran like a filly who is ready for a crack at seven furlongs again. She can put in a strong showing at a backable price. Our pick: ARABIAN DUSK 2:30 Group 3 HKJC World Pool Molecomb Stakes (2yo) - 5f This revolves around the Ger Lyons-trained LADY IMAN as she looks to get back to winning ways after being outstayed over six furlongs in a Curragh Group 2. She has always looked like a ball of speed, and the drop to the minimum trip should be enough to get this talented filly back to winning ways. Ameeq ran well above market expectations in the Norfolk Stakes, and if she can prove that that run was not a fluke, she could be the one who can chance home the selection. 2024 Winner: Big Mojo J: Silvestre De Sousa T: Michael Appleby Odds: 25/1 Our pick: LADY IMAN 3:05 Group 1 Visit Qatar Sussex Stakes (3yo+) - 1m A slow pace in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes was the downfall of Rosallion not getting his head in front at Royal Ascot. He took a keen hold throughout and seemed to take an age to get into top gear, and when he did, he ran out of track to reel in Docklands. This is no easier than what he faced at Royal Ascot, and he will need to be at his very best here if he is to make up for his narrow loss last time out. The one that they all have to beat is arguably the colt of the season in FIELD OF GOLD. This hugely talented son of Kingman has only tasted defeat once this season, when he failed to reel in Ruling Court in the 2000 Guineas, and would have done so if his then jockey Kieran Shoemark had been switched on to what was going on around him. Field Of Gold went on to leave the disappointment of Newmarket behind him when winning the Irish 2000 Guineas, and then bolted up at Royal Ascot leaving Henri Matisse over three lengths back in second. He gets the weight-for-age allowance here, and should this not be one race too many this season, it's hard to see him not recording his third Group 1 win in a row. 3:45 British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies' Handicap (3yo+ 0-105) - 1m2f This has a wide-open look to it, and not many can be ruled out. Bintjeddah has been improving with experience and ran her best race of the season when staying on strong to grab second place at Newmarket. She takes a step up in trip which looks set to unlock even more improvement. She is one of many that has a clear chance, but a chance is taken on handicap debutant WONDER STAR. The William Haggas filly was an impressive winner on her seasonal debut at Ascot, and backed that up with what was a disappointing run at listed level at Newbury. A lot more was expected from her on the day, and the fact that she hasn't been seen since would suggest that all was not right. She gets in here off a mark of 82, and given the promise of her maiden win, she could have been let in lightly here. 4:20 British Stallion Studs EBF Alice Keppel Fillies' Conditions Stakes (2yo) - 5f There could be a bit of an upset here with so many unexposed types lining up, but it would be disappointing if ZELAINA wasn't able to make it two wins from three starts. She was an impressive winner on debut and bettered that performance when finishing just over three lengths off True Love at Royal Ascot. She will improve from that experience, and given that she was sent off at 5/1 on the day, a lot more was expected. This represents a considerable drop in class, and she will prove a tough nut to crack. Luna Mia wasn't beaten over six furlongs in a Group 2 at the Curragh, and the drop to five furlongs with the addition of blinker looks the right move. Our pick: ZELAINA 4:55 World Pool Bet With The tote Handicap (3yo+ 0-95) - 7f Defence Minister's keenness got the better of him at Sandown when he failed to reel in Mudbir. The setup here should help him settle and comes with a live chance. The fellow Wathnan Racing-owned Native Warrior must defy top weight, but he has a solid level of form that entitles him to massive respect here. Nine-time winner and course and distance winner Rhoscolyn is the type that can suddenly bounce back to form and is on a mark that he is capable of winning off. However, the one who is given one more chance is BILLYJOH. He has been sending out signals that he could be about to win one of these of late, and even though he comes here on the back of a run that saw him finish eighth, he had a few excuses. He's now back to a mark that saw him finish a clear second at Royal Ascot last season, and if he gets the breaks, he will be bang there at the finish. Our pick: BILLYJOH 🕔 Qatar Goodwood day two schedule TIME RACE DISTANCE 1:20 Coral Pipped At The Post Winners Handicap 1m4f 1:55 Group 3 HKJC World Pool Oak Tree Stakes 7f 2:30 Group 3 HKJC Pool Molecomb Stakes 5f 3:05 Group 1 Visit Qatar Sussex Stakes 1m 3:45 British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies' Handicap 1m2f 4:20 British Stallion Studs EBF Alice Keppel Fillies' Conditional Stakes 5f 4:55 World Pool Bet With The tote Handicap 7f 📺 How to watch day two of the Qatar Goodwood Festival Location: Chichester, England, United Kingdom Date/Time: Wednesday, 30th July 2025. Hugh Bowman eyes best Hong Kong season before a freshen up, and maybe some rides, in Europe
A 'delighted' Hugh Bowman is itching to head off to Europe for a break and maybe even a few race rides, but first he's keen to better his Hong Kong personal best of 69 wins in a season. The star Australian sits on 68 victories with three meetings to go in the 2024-25 campaign and he has six chances to add to his tally at Happy Valley on Wednesday night. 'I'm delighted – it's been a pretty consistent year for me,' said the jockey. 'It's been a good, consistent flow of winners with the exception of being a little bit quiet through the November-December period and a little bit quiet through June. 'It's been an improvement on last year, but bearing in mind that last year I was injured for a period of time and I did struggle with careless riding suspensions. I've had a few this year but it hasn't been quite to the same extent as last year. 'That's an area I'd like to improve on again next season. I set a goal to ride 100 winners. I think that might have been a little bit ambitious, actually – I won't do that again – but I do think I can do better than I've done this year.' Bowman rates Enjoy Golf in the first section of the Class Four Garden Handicap (1,200m) and Prince Alex in the Class Four Green Handicap (1,650m) among his better hopes at the midweek meeting. Enjoy Golf makes all for an impressive first win as @HugeBowman collects a race-to-race double at Sha Tin... ✌️ #HKracing — HKJC Racing (@HKJC_Racing) June 8, 2024 'Enjoy Golf has been a good horse to me although he's only won one race. I think I've had four seconds on him, which is always a bit concerning,' said Bowman. 'But his only go at Happy Valley was at 1,650m, which is too far, so he's an interesting runner and he's got to be a chance. And Prince Alex freshened up, a long time between runs from gate one – they're probably the chances, those two.' While Bowman is counting down the days until his flight out of Hong Kong, he admits he'll likely get itchy feet at some stage during the off-season and potentially look to do some riding while travelling. 'I can't wait to get away. It's been a long year for everyone but in saying that, I feel like I'm finishing the year full of enthusiasm,' he said. 'For me, two months [off] is a bit too long, but it is what it is. We'll have a break, freshen up and come back and hit the ground running. If the opportunity arises, I'll look to ride in Europe, whether in the UK or possibly France.'

Ka Ying Rising to return home after The Everest: ‘He's avoiding big-money temptation'
Ka Ying Rising will spend most of next season at home in Hong Kong. Photos: Kenneth Chan The world's best sprinter Ka Ying Rising will return straight home to Hong Kong after his tilt in the Group One The Everest (1,200m) with his owner keen to show his commitment to Hong Kong racing. On a winning run of 12 races which includes four Group Ones, the David Hayes-trained superstar was imperious last season - rising up to a rating of 132 from 111. He dismantled his sprinting rivals by going faultless in the Hong Kong Speed Series, winning the Group One Centenary Sprint Cup (1,200m) and Group One Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup (1,400m) before crowning his season with a devastating win in the Group One Chairman's Sprint Prize (1,200m). His success in the Chairman's Sprint Prize was boosted by the second Satono Reve finishing runner-up in the Group One Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes (1,200m) at Royal Ascot and Ka Ying Rising himself is getting ready to go international with a trip to Australia. HE DOES IT AGAIN! 🚀 Ka Ying Rising makes it 12 straight wins, four Group 1s and a HK$5 million Speed Series bonus with victory in the 2025 Chairman's Sprint Prize... @zpurton #FWDChampionsDay | #HKracing — HKJC Racing (@HKJC_Racing) April 27, 2025 He will line up in the Hong Kong Jockey Club's slot for the A$20 million (HK$102 million) Group One The Everest (1,200m) on October 18, but his connections have resisted the temptation to go for further riches abroad. Hayes had considered running Ka Ying Rising in the Group One Champions Sprint (1,200m) at Flemington or the Russell Balding Stakes (1,300m) at Rosehill - with Rosehill race boasting a A$1 million bonus to the Everest winner - but connections have decided to prioritize the sprinters Group One Hong Kong Sprint (1,200m) preparation. 'It's been decided that we'll give Ka Ying Rising one run in The Everest, and then the owner is keen to concentrate on Hong Kong,' said Hayes. 'He's avoiding the temptation of the big money in Australia. He's decided win, lose or draw, to come back after the race. The owners really committed to Hong Kong racing and the Hong Kong Jockey Club have been so helpful with the slot that he wants to do the right thing by the club.' What a return!? 😳 Star sprinter Ka Ying Rising defies top-weight to land the Class 1 HKSAR Chief Executive's Cup with @zpurton for David Hayes at Sha Tin... 🚀#SeasonOpener | #HKracing — HKJC Racing (@HKJC_Racing) September 8, 2024 Ka Ying Rising began his perfect campaign last year by winning off a huge weight of 135lb in the Class One Chief Executive's Cup (1,200m) before going on to collect seven Group races. The same starting point is set to be employed by Hayes before he sets sail for Australia, provided he trials well beforehand. 'I'm pretty confident he'll be running on opening day - if he trials well the week before he'll run in the Chief Executive's Cup,' said Hayes. The 62-year-old sits a clear second in the trainers premiership, seven winners behind leader John Size after a double at Sha Tin on Saturday evening. Trainer David Hayes. Hayes is looking to finish the campaign with a flourish but any hopes of pipping Size were likely extinguished by the luck of the draw, with a lot of his runners reserved out of Wednesday's Happy Valley fixture. That leaves him with just a trio of runners on the third-to-last meeting of the season, but Hayes has remained typically upbeat. 'I've got lots of reserves, I'll have a big hand on Sunday and a very big hand on the final day - it's just the way it fell with the races,' said Hayes. 'It'd be dreaming to think we could win, John has to have a wipe for the last three meetings - I'm very happy to run a clear second.'

Zac Purton blasts past last season's tally with another magnificent Sha Tin four-timer
Magnifique and Zac Purton (white and red) win at Sha Tin on Saturday. Photos: Kenneth Chan Zac Purton breezed past last season's tally with another four-timer headlined by the gutsy win of Magnifique in the Class Three Chow Silver Plate (1,200m) at Sha Tin on Saturday night. The 42-year-old moved past the 130-winner mark and then onto 132 victories following the success of David Hall's promising three-year-old, but there was a sour footnote with the Charm Spirit galloper found to have bled post-race. Magnifique pulled hard throughout the race after settling midfield and made rapid ground to find the lead 200m from home, looking set to win by multiple lengths. That was not the case, however, as he leaned right in the closing stages and found just enough to fend off Righteous Arion by a neck. Nice talent! Magnifique extends his record to three wins from his first four starts for David Hall as @zpurton makes it a four-timer at Sha Tin... 🙌#SummerSeries | #HKracing — HKJC Racing (@HKJC_Racing) July 5, 2025 The winning margin does not do his win justice, but a lengthy spell on the sidelines is now likely as he is nursed back to health. 'He came up very comfortable, [Zac] had plenty of horse and was going to go right over them and win like the good horse he is, but the reason he slowed down was because he bled,' said Hall. 'He's one of those highly strung sprinting horses – he's always a bit on edge so normally he's the type of horse it happens to.' 'It's a bit unfortunate and puts a dampener on the win, of course, but he'll have a long break and we probably won't see him again until November. It's just unfortunate as he's a horse with a lot of potential.' That was the fourth leg of another brilliant winning day for Purton, who also scooped the Class Four Wong Cup (1,200m) for Hall with $2.2 favourite Mr Energia. Mr Energia makes it look easy! David Hall's galloper cruises to a third win this season under @zpurton today... #SummerSeries | #HKracing — HKJC Racing (@HKJC_Racing) July 5, 2025 Purton sat wide throughout the race but was always handy and made ground sharply on the turn for home, soon taking the lead and quickening up smartly to win one and three-quarter lengths. After seconds in two of the next three races, Purton was quickly back in the winners' enclosure when the Tony Cruz-trained Igor Stravinsky surged down the outside to claim the Class Four Stevenson Cup (1,200m). Purton was always niggling away at the Irish import and the pair looked in trouble as the leaders quickened up, but the champion jockey got a brilliant tune out of his mount in the final 200m for a cosy success. And things got even better just one race later when $2.2 favourite Fortune Boy fended off a late challenge from Forever Folks to win the Class Four Ip Jug (1,800m). On fire again, @zpurton! 🔥 David Hayes' Fortune Boy sneaks in as favourite to give the eight-time champion jockey a three-timer at Sha Tin... #SummerSeries | #HKracing — HKJC Racing (@HKJC_Racing) July 5, 2025 Purton was always travelling kindly in midfield and made his move at the 300m pole, making rapid ground in the middle of the track to overhaul the early pacemakers. Favourite backers would have had a brief moment of panic as Forever Folks closed quickly, but Purton had enough up his sleeve to scramble in by a head. 'It's been good, all the horses have run well. It's nice to have a reasonable day towards the end of the season,' said Purton. It could have easily been a five-timer for the Australian, but he was denied that honour when $1.7 favourite Patch Of Stars was beaten in the concluding Class Three Chairmen's Day Handicap (1,400m) by Cruz's Beauty Crescent. The hot favourite was planted in midfield and still had plenty to do as the field turned for home. Although Purton closed with menace, he never looked likely to stretch clear and was ultimately collared late by Beauty Crescent.
