Man charged over beachside toilet rape
A man has been charged with rape after a 20-year-old woman was attacked in a beachside public toilet. Dorset Police was called to Undercliff Drive, Bournemouth, shortly before 02:00 BST on 6 July. Mohammed Abdullah, 18, from West Drayton, was charged with rape and sexual assault. He is due to appear before Poole magistrates later. A 31-year-old man from Bournemouth who was arrested on suspicion of rape has now been released without charge, police said. Inquest opens over boy stabbed on way to football
An inquest into the death of teenager Ibrahima Seck, who was stabbed while on his way to play football, has been opened and adjourned. The 14-year-old had been walking with his brothers and friends to a park in New Moston, Manchester, when he was attacked on 8 June. His parents described him as "funny, caring, and hardworking", while his headteacher said he had a 100% school attendance rate and had been doing the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Two 14-year-old boys and a 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named due to their ages, have been charged with murder and possession of a bladed article. The inquest was opened on Thursday and adjourned until criminal proceedings have concluded. Led by Ibrahima's parents, about 1,000 people marched against knife crime in New Moston a week after his death. PC spared jail after sexually touching victims
A trainee police officer found guilty of sexually touching two women on a night out has been sentenced. Charlie Valente, 24, from Leeds, was given a two-year community order with 200 hours unpaid work at Leeds Crown Court. The West Yorkshire Police student officer was found guilty in May of three counts of sexual touching following an incident in November 2022. The force said Valente had been suspended from duty pending a misconduct hearing. Passing sentence Judge Andrew Stubbs told Valente: "You were drunk, boorish and believed you were untouchable as a sexual predator. You felt in a position to dominate the victims. "One of the victims was so drunk she did not know what was happening, but you continued even when she showed she was not interested. "During the trial, one of the victims described the impact of your actions on her personal life that she has been having to rebuild because of what you did to her, so these are serious offences." He told Valente that he "may seem sorry now, but he didn't seem sorry for what he did" during his trial. However, he noted that Valente had "matured considerably from the drunken 22-year-old he was" at the time of the incident. As well as the community order, he was told he would have to carry out a 90-day alcohol rehabilitation programme and 20-day rehabilitation programme. He was also ordered to pay £8,000 towards the cost of the case. Speaking after Valente was found guilty, Det Ch Supt Tanya Wilkins said: "What was reported to the police by the first victim was a pattern of behaviour by this student officer over the course of a night out that has made her extremely uncomfortable, including unwanted sexual touching. "As part of our enquiries, we reviewed CCTV and established that there was also a second potential victim. "She was identified and spoken to and again confirmed that she had not consented to the sexual touching she was subjected to." Man accused of sex offences to stand trial
A man accused of 29 sex offences is due to stand trial in 2027. Malcolm Barnes, 66, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday after being charged earlier this year. Among the charges he faces, all of which are alleged to have taken place between 1980 and 2007, are rape and indecent assault against a girl under 14. Mr Barnes, of Newman Road in Rotherham, was told his trial was scheduled to start on 5 April 2027 and granted conditional bail until his next court hearing. Driver jailed after 10mph police pursuit
A man who attempted to get away from police by driving at just 10mph has been handed an immediate 12 month prison sentence. Jack Lowrey was spotted driving erratically through parts of Cumbria on the evening of 11 January as if "under the influence of something", Carlisle Crown Court heard. During a 16-minute "chase", the 21-year-old drove slowly with his lights off before having his tyres punctured by a police stinger and being forced to stop against a wall. Lowrey, who had been given 16 months in February 2024 for threatening to kill someone while holding scissors to their throat, admitted dangerous driving and aggravated vehicle taking. Previously of Distington but currently of no fixed abode, he also admitted to failing to provide a specimen and having no insurance or licence. He will also be banned from driving for 36 months after his release and will have to take an extended test before getting behind the wheel again. The incident began when Lowrey took a red Ford Focus courtesy vehicle without his family's permission. He had initially attracted the attention of officers while sitting in the vehicle on Moorclose Road in Workington, before then heading south towards Whitehaven where the blue light pursuit began. Upon his arrest, he was taken to a police station where he refused to co-operate and shouted abuse. Lowrey's barrister told the court how he had gone "out of control" and started to use alcohol to cope after his father was handed a lengthy jail term in 2023. Passing sentence, Judge Nicholas Barker said he had "little hesitation" in finding that Lowrey was "heavily intoxicated" during what "was a determined attempt, by you, to evade the police".
