Vijayawada: Legendary film actor and former legislator passed away in Hyderabad on Sunday. He was 83 and is survived by wife and two daughters. He breathed his last at his residence in Filmnagar, Hyderabad, in the early hours of Sunday after battling illness for several days. Kota Srinivasa Rao, a versatile actor and influential figure in Telugu cinema and politics, shared a deep and emotional bond with the city of Vijayawada. Born on July 10, 1942, at Kankipadu in Vijayawada, he spent his formative years in and around the city, which remained close to his heart throughout his life. He often said that every time he visited Vijayawada, it felt like coming home. Kota made his film debut in 1978 with Pranam Khareedhu, and over the decades, he became a beloved figure in Indian cinema, known for his powerful performances in both villainous and comedic roles. Beyond acting, he also had a significant political stint — he served as a BJP MLA from Vijayawada East constituency between 1999 and 2004. During his tenure as MLA, Kota focused on improving infrastructure at schools and junior colleges. He also focused on improving drainage and cement road connectivity in the Satyanarayana Puram and Gandhi Nagar areas of the city. His passing has triggered an outpouring of grief across Andhra Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, and HRD and IT minister Nara Lokesh extended heartfelt condolences to his family and fans. Tributes have been pouring in from across the political and film fraternities, remembering him as a man of remarkable talent and character. The BJP city unit mourned the death of Kota Srinivasa Rao at the office and remembered his services to the party and Vijayawada city.

'Proving that for fishermen who gauge the depths of the sea, understanding the highs and lows of human life is no difficult task, I wholeheartedly wish that Prasad Suri reaches the pinnacle of literature in the days to come,' Naidu said in a post on X. Governor Abdul Nazeer and HRD and IT Minister Nara Lokesh also extended their congratulations and wished the author continued success.

Taking to X, they praised the hard work and excellence demonstrated by the young aspirants. Naidu posted, 'Hearty congratulations to all the medical students who passed NEET UG 2025. Well done! Students from both Telugu State have done exceedingly well. Kudos to Kakarla Jeevan Sai Kumar from Telangana for securing the 18th rank, and Darba Karthikram from AP for securing the 19th rank.' Lokesh posted, 'I congratulate six students from the State for securing ranks in the top 100 in the results of the national-level NEET UG exam for admissions to medical courses. My heartfelt congratulations to D Karthik Ram Kiriti (19th rank), K Mohita Sriram (56th), D Suryacharan (59th), P Avinash (64th), Y Sameer Kumar (70th), and T Shivamanideep (92nd). Martyred Jawan's body reaches Andhra Pradesh's Sathya Sai village

ANANTAPUR: The mortal remains of Army Jawan M Murali Naik were brought to his native village Kalli Thanda in Gorantla mandal of Sri Sathya Sai district at 10 pm on Saturday. The last rites of the Jawan martyred during 'Operation Sindoor' in Kashmir, will be performed with official honours on Sunday morning. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, HRD and IT Minister Nara Lokesh, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha and several other Ministers will visit Kalli Thanda on Sunday to pay homage to Murali Naik. The body reached Bangalore airport around 2 pm, and from there it was taken to his native place by road in a procession. A large number of people participated in the procession. People also congregated at road junctions in large numbers to offer tributes to the martyred Jawan, and it took several hours to reach his native village Kalli Thanda. BC Welfare Minister S Savitha took part in the procession from Bengaluru to his residence. Several people's representatives from the erstwhile combined Anantapur district also joined the procession from Kodikonda check post to Murali Naik's native village.
