Centre instructs officials to complete pending rural drinking water projects in Chikkamagaluru district
Chikkamagaluru: The Union ministry of women and child development deputy director Abhishek Anand instructed the authorities concerned to complete the pending works of the multi-village drinking water project under way in Chikkamagaluru district. The officer directed the officials at a progress review meeting of the Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Division held at the zilla panchayat. He instructed that the works undertaken under the Jal Jeevan Mission for 146 villages in Chikkamagaluru taluk, 434 in Kadur taluk, and 156 in Tarikere taluk should be completed swiftly. Officials should inspect and take action where jack well works are stalled. The construction of water purification units must be completed, and the pipeline works of the remaining overhead tanks should be of quality. All these works should be completed within the timeline to ensure quality water is available for rural residents, he said. Chikkamagaluru: Deputy commissioner CN Meena Nagraj directed the officials concerned to take cases of SC/ST atrocities seriously and ensure they are resolved within the stipulated time after case is registered. The DC chaired a meeting of the district-level awareness and monitoring committee for SCs/STs at the DC office on Friday. The DC said compensation funds approved for atrocity cases should be released immediately. The officer instructed the officials to ensure no injustice is done to SCs and STs and to take legal action under the prevention of atrocities act. The DC also expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in granting residential plots to beneficiaries without land in Bannur village of Narasimharaja Pura taluk, despite several instructions. She directed the NR Pura taluk tahsildar to take immediate action. Regarding the issuance of title deeds to 30 tribal families residing in Shettihithlu of Bannur village, for 100 years, he instructed them to accept applications under the forest rights act and take action.
