NewJeans' deepfake case: ADOR intensifies legal action against defamers amid ongoing contract validity suit

NewJeans' management agency, ADOR, shared a major update regarding the spread of malicious online content targeting the group. On June 30, they revealed that they have identified and pursued legal action against individuals behind deepfake content featuring NewJeans members, as reported by media portal K-POPdays on July 1. This development came amid the legal contract dispute between the quintet and ADOR, sparking curiosity about the timing of the agency's move. ADOR shares update on NewJeans' deepfake content creators ADOR is taking a strong stance against online harassment targeting NewJeans. They have been continuously monitoring and pursuing legal action against malicious online content, including creation of deepfake videos, targeting the group. Recently, one individual using ProtonMail for circulating such illicit content, was arrested after a thorough investigation, as per ADOR. They revealed several of such creators already faced several legal punishments, including prison sentences and fine orders. The label is also pursuing criminal proceedings against a YouTuber whose content could lead to s*xual humiliation of the NewJeans members. The YouTuber initially received a suspended sentence with educational programming, but ADOR has appealed for stricter penalties. ADOR reveals no leniency towards NewJeans' defamers The HYBE-owned agency mentioned a zero-tolerance policy towards online harassment. They're also collaborating with US legal systems to track down identities on YouTube and other platforms, followed by domestic legal action. ADOR's possible motive behind the legal stance ADOR probably wants to demonstrate their commitment to safeguarding NewJeans' well-being and reputation even amid their ongoing contract dispute with the artists. 'We will continue to take every possible legal measure to protect the rights of our artists,' the agency declared. Through their firm legal stance against the Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein's defamers, the label probably wants to earn their trust back. They clearly want the K-pop idols back under their label, as expressed by them in the headings of their legal case with NewJeans. However, the girls might still not be ready to drop the case and reach a settlement with them. Regarding the latest development to the lawsuits, the court sided with ADOR, ruling that NewJeans can't engage in independent entertainment activities, without the label's permission.

SEVENTEEN fans send protest trucks to HYBE for delayed album shipment and lack of action against defamers

SEVENTEEN's devoted fanbase, Carat, has voiced their discontent with the group's management agency, due to recent incidents. The HYBE-owned Pledis Entertainment faced allegations of neglecting its artists. In a show of support for SEVENTEEN, their fans organized a protest by sending trucks to the HYBE headquarters. The protest began on June 24 at 10 AM KST (6:30 AM IST), with Carat members demonstrating their solidarity with the group. SEVENTEEN's fandom Carats send protest trucks to HYBE headquarters South Korea-based Carats are holding a truck protest near the front of the main gate of HYBE's Yongsan building to demand protection of SEVENTEEN 's rights. The protest is a formal, organized effort by fans to demand specific actions, including transparent reports on artist protection and a timely, accountable response from the agency. They also asked for "continued interest and support" from other Carats worldwide. The trucks feature LED banners with text displays, such as "We're even fighting for the right to rest. We'll challenge this to the very end," and "Fans have protected the group, while the company turned its back." What is SEVENTEEN's fandom protesting against? The reason for the protest was the long period of waiting for fans to get their hands on the hard copy of SEVENTEEN's latest album, HAPPY BURSTDAY. The issue occurred due to HYBE LABELS abruptly delaying the shipping of the physical album and closing off pre-orders earlier than expected during key promotion periods. They believe it had impacted the group's promotional activities and engagement. It led to frustration among fans, who accused the agency of trying to sabotage the group's success. Additionally, the fans also claimed that HYBE did not take sufficient steps against the defamers of the group. According to them, the label made fake promises of taking steps against individuals who post malicious comments about SEVENTEEN online. As per them, HYBE failed to protect their artists and ignored their well-being. So, the fans took it upon themselves to fight for their beloved artists by raising questions like, "SEVENTEEN's 6-month tour revenue ranks 3rd globally at 167 billion won. How much of that was used to protect the artists' rights?"

NewJeans' Hanni's previous comment about HYBE's money-mindedness reemerge amid Bang Si Hyuk's 400 billion KRW fraud case

HYBE chairman Bang Si Hyuk is currently under intense scrutiny due to the allegedly misinforming investors about HYBE's IPO plans and making profits of around 400 million KRW profits through unfair means. Currently, HYBE is under investigation and public opinion is largely against them. Amid the controversy, Hanni's previous remark regarding the company's greed and lack of artistic integrity gained renewed attention. Hanni's comment about HYBE and ADOR choosing profit over its artists NewJeans publicly declared their split from ADOR, in a press conference in November 2024. Speaking about the reason for such a big decision, Hanni accused ADOR of abandoning its artistic values for commercial gain. She articulated the girl group's collective thoughts regarding the entertainment label not having any integrity and genuineness, as they didn't care about the NewJeans members' well-being anymore. As per her, the label's actions were disrespectful towards the craft they represent and owe their dedication to. She called the HYBE-owned ADOR "a company that no longer has any sincerity in the art of music, a company that only has thoughts about making money, and doesn't have any conscience about the negative effect they create through their non-authentic means." Check out fan reactions to the resurfaced incident The majority of fans appeared to be of the same opinion as Hanni. NewJeans' devoted supporters, who stood firmly by the group during the intense public scrutiny surrounding the ADOR conflict, also rallied behind Hanni's resurfaced comment. They highlighted how Hanni was previously criticized and labeled "ungrateful" for speaking out against her agency, but in light of the recent Bang Si Hyuk stock fraud allegations, her words seemed to have been vindicated. Currently, Bang Si Hyuk case is being investigated for potential violations of the Capital Markets Act and unfair trading practices related to HYBE's 2020 IPO. If found guilty, he could face severe penalties, including life imprisonment or a minimum of five years in prison, under Article 443 of the Capital Markets Act. In the light of the issue, comments like "time cleared NJZ (NewJeans' new moniker)" and "Bang PD has done everything possible to kill its (HYBE's) values" flooded social media. Some even bashed the agency's supporters, calling them "clowns", while others expressed their eager anticipation of the quintet to put an end to their hiatus and return back to the K-pop scene.
