Buccaneers free agent signing predicted to be 'biggest bust' of 2025
Whenever a player is coming off a rough season due to injury, fans and analysts alike will let a player come back into the fold with a relatively decent amount of hope. If a player who had a bad season due to their own decision-making, then that same hope is nonexistent. Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox wrote about one free agent signing for each team who could be a "bust" for the upcoming season. When it came time to discuss the Bucs, of course, it had to be the signing that surprised folks by getting the money he did after the season he had, Haason Reddick. The former All-Pro edge rusher arrives after a 2024 season he would like to forget. As Knox writes, though, it could linger over him as the new season begins. "There's no getting around the fact that Haason Reddick's 2024 season with the New York Jets was a mess. Reddick held out for part of the season while angling for a new contract, appeared in only 10 games and finished with just a single sack. Despite his 2024 struggles, Reddick earned a one-year, $14 million deal from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in free agency. While a bounce-back year is possible, there's a very real chance that he never returns to peak production. Reddick will turn 31 in September and won't be surrounded by the overall defensive talent he was during his two Pro Bowl seasons with the Eagles." While the argument could be made for Reddick to have a bad season in 2025, it won't be because he has no help to do it. Yaya Diaby, Calijah Kancey, Vita Vea, Lavonte David, and Antoine Winfield Jr. are all more than capable of helping hands. Reddick will have some pass rush help, perhaps even more help in pass coverage, could make things even easier for him. Time will tell with all of this.

Buccaneers Continuity Key To Baker Mayfield's 2025 Form
Buccaneers Continuity Key To Baker Mayfield's 2025 Form originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a lot of noise around them in 2025 and for good reason, with the franchise boasting one of the most well-rounded rosters in football. Advertisement A defense that should be better than a year ago, thanks to the signing of Haason Reddick, plus a couple of draft picks expected to his the ground running, and let's not forget the offense. That will be how this team gets to where it needs to go, with Baker Mayfield having an embarrassment of riches at his disposal. Coming off a career-best season after throwing for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns, Mayfield will be tasked with leading a deep playoff run. But can he? Bleacher Report thinks so. "The NFL's fourth-highest-rated passer threw 41 touchdown passes and has all of his key supporters back for his age-30 season," Bleacher Report writes. Advertisement Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images That offensive continuity is big here. Yes, some will point to Josh Grizzard being Baker's third coordinator in three years, but some forget he was on the staff last season as the passing game coordinator under Liam Coen. So, the change won't be "that" big. Still, with all his key weapons returning with the addition of first-round pick Emeka Egbuka, plus all five starting offensive linemen, and Bucky Irving leading the run game, Tampa Bay has some serious venom. And it is because of this that Baker will be able to continue on his career resurgence in 2025 and lead this team on a deep playoff run…well, that's the hope anyway. Buccaneers' Star Defensive Tackle Predicted for Breakout Season
Buccaneers' Star Defensive Tackle Predicted for Breakout Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. If there's been one knock on Calijah Kancey during his two seasons in the NFL, it's his lack of reliability. Advertisement Which sounds harsh, considering he's missed eight games across his first two seasons since joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers via the No. 19 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. But those missed games keep adding up, and the concern is real. That's an ominous start to any NFL career, and the Bucs hope it's not a trend. When he's been on the field, he's been great, and that's why PFN believes 2025 could be a breakout year for Kancey. "Calijah Kancey took a big step forward as a pass rusher in his second NFL season, leading the Buccaneers with 7.5 sacks, 39 pressures, and 18 quarterback hits in just 12 games. His pressure rate jumped to 11 percent in 2024, up from 9.4 percent as a rookie, making him one of the more disruptive interior defenders in the league," BrandonAustin wrote. While Tampa Bay's defense finished middle of the pack in PFSN's Defense+ metric and struggled against the pass, Kancey's ability to generate consistent pressure was a bright spot. With the addition of Haason Reddick to the defensive front, Kancey could see more favorable matchups and opportunities and reach double-digit sacks in 2025. Advertisement "With the addition of Haason Reddick to the defensive front, Kancey could see more favorable matchups and opportunities and reach double-digit sacks in 2025." Calf injuries have plagued Kancey in both years of his career. He suffered a calf injury in training camp of his rookie season but returned for the season opener before missing a month, 11 games into the season, after aggravating it. The defensive interior combination of Kancey and Vita Vea is a force the Bucs hope can stay together in 2025 and beyond, as long as both can stay healthy. Buccaneers' New Pass Rusher Labeled 'Player to Root For'
Buccaneers' New Pass Rusher Labeled 'Player to Root For' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht had some things to work on this offseason with regard to the team's defense from a season ago. Advertisement The Bucs' defense struggled with pressure on the quarterback, in pass coverage and taking the ball away in 2024. Licht addressed the pass rush part of that by signing free agent Haason Reddick early in the offseason. Tom Blair named Reddick as the Bucs player that we should root for. "Reddick was quite the pass-rushing mercenary between 2020 and 2023, stacking up 50.5 sacks over four seasons with three different teams," Blair wrote. "That run came to a spectacular halt last season, with an ultimately fruitless pursuit of a better contract swallowing up most of his brief stay with the Jets. Now he's with the Bucs, a team on the upswing that also happens to roster a good number of likable players on feel-good career tracks. One thing they've missed since the Golden Age of Baker Mayfield commenced in 2023, however, is a consistent pass-rush presence on the edge; Shaq Barrett was the last Tampa player to tally more than 7.5 sacks in a season, back when he posted 10 in 2021. Advertisement "Reddick can restore his reputation as one of the NFL's preeminent QB-chasers-for-hire while keeping Mayfield, Mike Evans, Todd Bowles and Co. relevant in our lives as football fans, and that would be a win-win as far as I'm concerned." Licht got Reddick on the cheap this year and it's with a good reason, as CBS Sports' Garrett Podell described. "A contract dispute with the Philadelphia Eagles that turned into a trade to theNew York Jets last season derailed Reddick's production," Podell wrote. "His holdout led to him not making his Jets debut in 2024 until Week 8, and he only registered one sack in New York's final 10 games of the season. That chipped away at the 30-year-old's ability to command a multiyear deal in free agency this offseason, which is why he settled for a one-year, $14 million deal with $12 million fully guaranteed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. "There's certainly a chance Reddick could return to stardom with a regular offseason in Tampa Bay this year. 'Real Space' Between Buccaneers And Rivals In NFC South Chase
'Real Space' Between Buccaneers And Rivals In NFC South Chase originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have won the NFC South for four straight years, and there's nothing to suggest Todd Bowles' team won't make it five this season. Advertisement Armed with an offense that could be considered one of the best in football due to the number of receiving weapons, a superb run game and a good offensive line, coupled with what the Bucs hope is a revamped defense with the additions of Haason Reddick, Benjamin Morrison and Jacob Parrish, things are looking good. Yes, Atlanta might have something to say about Tampa Bay being favorites, but for Eric Edholm, when looking at the pecking order for the NFC South, it's the Buccaneers and then daylight. "The Buccaneers didn't seal up the division until Week 18 last season, and they lost their home playoff opener, but I believe there's some real space between them and the South's other three teams," Edholm writes. "The Bucs could feature one of the best offenses in the NFL in 2025, having added rookie slot receiver Emeka Egbuka to an already-dangerous group, although Tristan Wirfs' injury will sting early in the season. There also is a reasonable case for the defense improving, provided Haason Reddick and the young defensive linemen can help crank up the pass-rush pressure." Advertisement Baker Mayfield, Bucky Irving, Mike EvansBy Tony Fisher The offense will be the straw that stirs this team's drink in 2025. They won't have a problem putting up points. But defensively is where things get interesting. While the unit only allowed 22.6 points per game (ranked 16th), some feel the group needs to stiffen up in the secondary, and with Reddick now plugged in to play alongside Vita Vea, Calijah Kancey, and Logan Hall, while Yaya Diaby roams around the line of scrimmage, the Buccaneers defense has some bite. But it needs to show up in the biggest moments. There's no denying the talent that Bowles' team possesses, but that has to translate into something tangible. No longer is winning the division considered a success for Tampa Bay - playoff wins are the next step.
