Liam insulted me but I'll sing every word at Oasis tonight… they blew me away when I was 21 & still do, says Vernon Kay
WHEN Oasis strike the opening chords of their reunion tour tonight, it will be an incredibly emotional moment for me. Alongside my 16-year-old daughter Amber, younger brother Stephen and tens of thousands of mad-for-it fans, I'll be singing along to every word Advertisement 10 Oasis fan Vernon Kay at a gig in the 90s Credit: Supplied 10 Vernon and Noel at Radio 2 in 2023, sharing memories of the Manchester club scene Credit: Instagram/vernonkay 10 Vernon with wife Tess and daughters Phoebe and Amber Credit: Instagram I'm buzzing and really can't wait. It will be the band's first show since the year of Amber's birth. Now a whole new generation of fans will witness first-hand what we've been raving about for so long. The best thing is Amber has found Oasis without me, saying: 'You need to listen to this brilliant band.' I'll be such a proud dad as we sing all the lyrics together. Advertisement READ MORE ON OASIS I've been sending her different bootlegs of their live performances and we've already had a practice run, belting out their anthems. I might have to make a few excuses for Liam's language, though — I know from personal experience that he has a fruity turn of phrase. Back in 2009, I was at a Prodigy gig when I bumped into For a minute, I thought he was going to hit me. He shouted: 'No, I'm f***ing not you lanky streak of p***.' Advertisement Most read in Music I think he then called me lanky bollocks. But he's brilliant company. Liam Gallagher reveals new details about Oasis tour – before quickly deleting post People ask: 'Who would be your top ten dinner party guests?' Well, Advertisement Everyone would go: 'Alright then, let's have one of them.' For me — and countless others — today's show will be a return to the golden days of our youth. When Supersonic, the first single, hit the charts in April 1994, it had the simplicity of dance music with the excitement of raucous guitars. I was 21 and me and my friends were blown away. They were just so relatable. Advertisement The band dressed like us and had similar attitudes. Growing up in Bolton, my musical journey began with the train to Manchester every Saturday with my mates. We'd visit Piccadilly Records and try to blend in with the trendy kids with baggy jeans. Then I got into dance music. There were loads of clubs in Manchester including the Hacienda — the best club I've ever been to. Just blown away We started to notice bill posters all over for this group called Oasis. We didn't immediately jump on the band-wagon, but when Oasis exploded in 1994, we totally got it. Advertisement Noel used to go to the Hacienda and Oasis rehearsed at the Boardwalk, another club we went to — it was all so familiar. And then as they grew and grew and grew and grew, we felt like it was OUR band. It felt like a great movement — a wonderful moment in time. I think that dance music and the early days of Britpop ran hand in hand. A couple of years earlier, it was all grunge. I went to the 1992 Reading Festival with Nirvana headlining. Advertisement It was quite heavy and the look was army boots and baggy jumpers. Then all of a sudden there seemed to be this ray of sunshine from behind the grunge hills and everyone was wearing Oasis tracksuit tops and Clarks Wallabee shoes. I had the Liam haircut, but never went for his swaggering walk. I'm sure there'll be plenty attempting it on the way to the stadium tonight. Back in the early 1990s, I was living for the weekend and going out — we were all over the different scenes. Advertisement In the Nineties, whether you were into dance music, rock and roll — whatever you want to call it — all the genres came together Vernon Kay Radio One championed Oasis at the time, especially Jo Whiley and Steve Lamacq, so they were played a lot. In August 1994, their debut album Definitely Maybe was released and went straight to number one. As soon as it came out, I was like, 'Right, I'm having a bit of this'. It's just a brilliant album. Advertisement Noel has said that the lyrics and stories on it are all about living on the breadline, but being with your mates and having a great time. Just sitting in a park on star-filled nights and staring up at the sky. It sounds quite romantic. Liam and Noel grew up on a council estate. I didn't, but being from a working-class family I really felt the energy they transmitted. You could tell Manchester changed immediately when Oasis broke through. They made young people feel free. Advertisement Next week, they head back to Manchester where it all began. I'll be presenting my radio show live from the city as a celebration of the band, with fans sharing Oasis memories. Adds such a spark Britpop was a social phenomenon. The bands — Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Supergrass, Shed 7 — had loads of character with a bit of political anger thrown into the mix. It was just fab. Perhaps that's what's lacking in music today. Britpop was fun. Advertisement And I think, in the Nineties, whether you were into dance music, rock and roll — whatever you want to call it — all the genres came together. And that's why it was so good. In 2023, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds appeared, accompanied by the strings section of the BBC Concert Orchestra, for my Radio Two show. Beforehand, we talked for around an hour about the Hacienda days and dance music. Noel is very concise in how he speaks — very similar to his lyrics. He gets straight to the point. I understand how Noel and Liam fell out. Me and Stephen call each other all sorts, but the last person who speaks will do it with a snigger. Advertisement You can say things to your brother that you can't say to anyone else. It'll be interesting to see what the Gallaghers' relationship is like on stage. That's the melodrama that adds such a spark to the band. Forget the ticket sale debacle — this tour is going to be phenomenal. There's just going to be so much positivity, all the way through from the opening chords to the encore. Advertisement And I'll be moist-eyed, singing along to every track as my youngest daughter's generation gets to see the band that changed everything. GALLAGHER KIDS WELL PLAID! FOUR of Liam and Noel's kids got together for a family photoshoot ahead of Oasis's record-breaking reunion tour. The new-gen Gallaghers – Liam's children Molly, 27, Lennon, 25, and Gene, 24, along with Noel's daughter Anais, 25 – were decked out in Burberry as they posed in style for W Magazine. 10 New-gen Gallaghers from left to right: Molly, Lennon, Anais and Gene Credit: @sk8rmom420/W Magazine Advertisement 10 Anais in a Burberry design Credit: @sk8rmom420/W Magazine The Britpop nepo-babies opened up about their lives as part of the formerly feuding brothers' brood. The alleged architect of Oasis's reunion, Noel's photographer daughter Anais, tells the publication: 'My plan is to be at every UK date, and my camera will be with me every step of the way.' Liam's sons Lennon and Gene have followed in the musical footsteps of their rock star dad, with the brothers both part of rock bands on top of their fashion duties. Advertisement But their fellow model sister Molly revealed she shunned the idea of a music career. 'I honestly couldn't think of anything worse than being on stage in front of an audience', she told the magazine. 10 Lennon looks laid back in casual clobber Credit: @sk8rmom420/W Magazine 10 Gene looking dapper in a shirt and tie Credit: @sk8rmom420/W Magazine 10 Molly in a crimson leather coat Credit: @sk8rmom420/W Magazine Advertisement TAMBO SALES SOAR BY 155% TAMBOURINES, bucket hats and anoraks are flying off the shelves as fans clamour to mimic their idols. Advertisement Elsewhere, diehard followers of Oasis have been snapping up parkas and anoraks in the lead-up to their epic reunion. In another Nineties throwback, bucket hats are also back in a big way, with purchases jumping by 89 per cent in the past three months. FREE PINT WITH FLAMING GRILL AS part of their Summer To Be Shared campaign, and to back the return of Oasis, Flaming Grill pubs are teaming up with some of your favourite drink brands to offer readers a FREE pint or soft drink, at any of 135 pubs, today or tomorrow. 12 Apostles Hotel & Spa The 12 Apostles always feels like something I've manifested from when I was a child! Watching TV as a child and seeing the 12 Apostles Hotel, I never would've imagined that one day I wouldn't only have lunches or dinners there, but host a Mother's Day high tea as well as make use of their incredible spa! Their high tea is a wonderful treat, and their service is excellent! But as a couple, what I'd suggest you do to treat yourselves is the Outdoor Bliss treatment. This doesn't take place in the normal spa – you enjoy your treatments in the outdoor, enclosed Spa Mountain Gazebos, with the most breathtaking views! After a 90-minute treatment, surrounded by the sounds of nature, you enjoy lunch and a bottle of sparkling wine. This is all included in the price! Victoria Rd, Camps Bay Hacienda Living in the city makes it possible for me to head out at the drop of a hat for a cocktail and Hacienda in Bree Street is a spot that has all the vibes, while still giving a nice, cosy feeling. Their food never disappoints, but I think I'm more in love with their Margaritas! Iron Steak Again, living in the city I can hop out at any moment and also take advantage of really great restaurants with great food, at incredible prices! Iron Steak is one such place. You can choose a steak of your preference and have them prepare it the best way they know how! The after dinner ice cream treat doesn't hurt either. 114 Bree St, Cape Town City Centre Company Gardens Cape Town is a city made for walking, and my love language is definitely: taking walks! One of my favourite places to walk through has got to be the Company Gardens. In summer, you are surrounded by geese, birds, and endless squirrels, but in winter it's like the Gardens contain all those sounds right there in the gardens, amongst flowers, plants, and trees that are hundreds of years old. Having the National Library of South Africa right next to it also warms my heart, because I'm a bookworm of note! If reading isn't your jam, then head to the café in the centre of the Gardens and enjoy a delicious hot chocolate – especially in winter. Hotel Sky Hotel Sky is a hotel with views that are second to none in Cape Town! Added to that is their excellent service and a breakfast I could eat 24/7/365! If you're more of a thrill-seeker, the Sky Hi Ride on top of the hotel makes for a nice treat, offering even more uninterrupted views of the city! 9 Lower Long St, Foreshore Egghead Diner I'm a sucker for breakfast, and in Kloof Street, there's this cute, quaint, and cosy spot that makes any type of egg you can imagine –and their coffee isn't too shabby either! Egghead in Kloof Street really brings back a bit of nostalgia. You'll recognise a lot of the items your grandma had, without it feeling like you're in a secondhand store. They have more options than just eggs, but the eggs Benedict is definitely a firm favourite. Strand Beach and Gordon's Bay Being from Somerset West, nothing makes me happier than heading to my mom's in Somerset West on a Sunday and going for a drive – first to Gordon's Bay beach for ice cream, and then for a walk on Strand beach, where the sand stretches for miles and miles. It takes me back to when my late dad would take us for drives, either during summer evenings or especially on Sunday evenings in summer. The sun would set really late, and after everyone had left the beach, you'd have it all to yourself. I also have to say, you won't get a better sunset anywhere! Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker and his bandmates have become the latest celebrities to enjoy a post-show pint in a famous Dublin pub. The Brtipop legends returned to the capital for a triumphant career-spanning gig at the 3Arena last night. Afterwards they popped into the Hacienda - a venue beloved by celebs due to the privacy afforded to them. The Little Mary Street boozer has previously played host to the likes of Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Saoirse Ronan and Barry Keoghan. The pub shared a picture of Jarvis with owner Shay Duignan this afternoon, saying: "Great to welcome Jarvis Cocker & Pulp to the Hacienda!" Pulp were last in Dublin when they played St Anne's Park two years ago. The Common People hitmakers were back in the city last night in support of their new album, More. This is the group's first LP in 24 years and is on course to become their first UK number one album in 27 years. More, which was released on Friday, is the long awaited follow up to 2001's We Love Life. The last time the Sheffield-based group topped the UK album charts was in 1998 with This Is Hardcore, which followed on from their best-known album, Different Class, which was released three years prior and is their only other chart-topping LP. What to do if you're facing a tax inspection in Spain
Typically, a tax inspection is prompted by a specific incident or if you run a business that is under the Spanish tax agency's scrutiny for fraud control. This includes sectors where you often receive cash payments rather than bank transfers. You may also be targeted if you regularly receive VAT back from the authorities rather than having to pay more or if you're under Spain's Beckham Law tax regime. Unfortunately, these are both true for many foreigners here who work for companies abroad. If you do receive a letter from Hacienda's tax inspection unit, it's important to read the document carefully to understand all the implications. The letter will detail the reason for the inspection, the years they are inspecting and the information required, as well as the deadline for responding. It's very important to make sure you respond by the deadline or you could face fines. The first step is to start organising all your documentation which includes invoices, receipts, tax returns, statements from your bank etc. Ensure that everything is up to date and store them all together so you can find them all in one place. In Spain, you are obliged to keep all your documents and receipts for a period of six years, because inspections can go back this far. Secondly, you should go over all your numbers and calculations to make sure that everything is correct and there aren't any errors. If you have a gestor, you may want to contact them too to check all the calculations they've submitted are correct, as they can make mistakes too. Prepare you answers in case you have to justify certain expenses for your business, large cash transactions etc. If you don't have a gestor or accountant, you may want to contact one as they can help you prepare and anticipate what questions and information the Tax Agency will need. Occasionally inspectors may come to your place of work to conduct an on-site inspection, but they will only be able to do this if it's a place open to the public such as a café. If you work from home, they will have to have an administrative or court order if they need to inspect anything in person. Once you have got everything in order you will usually send your evidence digitally or in the post, without having to go in person. Sometimes, however, you may have to go in for an interviewing or questioning. The Treasury will notify you of the outcome within a certain amount of time and will let you know if everything is correct, if they need any more information or if you owed more money. It's important to answer any questions they have confidently and to stay calm, so you can show them you're on top of the situation. They will send you settlement with a result to be paid and typically offer a reduction if you accept it without filing any objections. If you do feel that the result is wrong, however, you can file an appeal. Be aware though, that this could result in a penalty fine. Once everything has been finalised and paid, it's essential that you keep all documentation organised and easily accessible in case they contact you again in the future. This means keeping all records of correspondence with the Tax Agency and the final result.

Dundee's Brian Cox among big names in Kirkcaldy festival programme launching this weekend
Succession star Brian Cox features alongside a host of local talent in a packed programme of Kirkcaldy events launching this weekend. Lang Toun Fest is Kirkcaldy's first arts and culture festival. And other big names taking part include Fife-born author Val McDermid, who is interviewing former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. Hacienda DJ Graeme Park will also return to his roots for a special benefit gig in aid of Sarcoma UK. However, a host of community talent is also included in the five-week extravaganza. Lang Toun Fest kicks off on Friday May 30 with the Lang Toun Jazz Proms opening concert. It officially closes with Fife Pride on July 5. More than 125 events are already organised, with more being added. They include live music, literature, performance, yoga, comedy, food demonstrations, talks, walking tours and exhibitions. Thousands of printed programmes are now available at venues across Kirkcaldy. The idea for a community-based festival came from discussions among the Kirkcaldy Partners group, comprising individuals and groups from across the town. They share a passion to showcase all that's positive and creative about the Lang Toun. And they took the chance to build on existing initiatives such as the Adam Smith Festival of Ideas, Fife Pride and the Kirkcaldy Walking Festival. Plans are now under way to make the Lang Toun Fest an annual event. Love Oor Lang Toun development manager Ryan Strachan said: 'Lang Toun Fest 2025 is a celebration of arts, culture and local talent.' Full details on all the Lang Toun Fest events can be found at:
