MELAKA: A 50-year-old restaurant assistant has claimed trial to a charge of allegedly molesting his employer's six-year-old daughter. The accused entered the plea before Sessions Court judge Haderiah Siri yesterday. According to the charge, the father of five is accused of sexually abusing the girl. The offence was allegedly committed at the child's family home at about 11.25am on June 21. The charge was framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which carries a prison term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction. Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Mohd Azfar Mahmud offered bail at RM20,000 along with additional conditions that the accused must not disturb witnesses. The accused was also ordered to report to the nearest police station every month. The man, a divorcee who was unrepresented, appealed for a lower bail. He said that he worked as a restaurant assistant and has to support his five children and mother. The court set bail at RM9,000 with the additional conditions requested by the prosecution and fixed July 29 as the next mention date.

MELAKA: A five-month pregnant woman and her husband were today sentenced to imprisonment in separate court proceedings for robbery, theft and disposing of stolen property. At the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court, Judge Haderiah Siri sentenced Jasila Jamaruddin, 31, to three years' imprisonment after she pleaded guilty to a robbery charge. She was charged with robbing a 42-year-old woman of a gold bracelet worth RM12,000 in front of a cafe in Bandar Baru Sungai Udang, Central Melaka, at about 11am on May 28 this year. The court ordered her to serve the sentence from the date of arrest, which was June 10. In a separate proceeding at the same court, Jaslia, pregnant with her fifth child, and her husband, Muhammad Alif Aiman ​​Zaini, 24, were each sentenced to one year in prison by Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah after they pleaded guilty to receiving and disposing of stolen property. They were charged with selling the gold bracelet at a pawn shop in Jalan Kiara Semenyih, Hulu Langat, at about 4pm around 4pm on the day of the robbery. In another proceeding at the Ayer Keroh magistrate's court, magistrate Uthman Abdul Ghani sentenced the couple to five months in jail after they pleaded guilty to theft in a dwelling, an offence under Section 380 of the Penal Code. The couple was jointly charged with stealing an LED television, a Xiaomi Android box, an iron, a water heater, blankets and pillows, as well as the door and lift access cards of their rented accommodation at Atlantis Residence Tower, Kota Laksamana, on April 26. The couple was unrepresented in all the proceedings while the prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutors Wardah Ishhar and Muhammad Nazrin Ali Rahim.

MELAKA: A five-month pregnant woman was sentenced to three years' in jail by the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh here for robbing a female victim of a gold bracelet worth RM12,000. Judge Haderiah Siri meted out the sentence after the accused, Jasila Jamaruddin, 31, pleaded guilty when the charge was read on Friday (July 4). According to the charge sheet, the accused was charged with committing the robbery by snatching the gold bracelet from the hand of a 42-year-old woman in front of an eatery on Jalan Kerambit 4, Bandar Baru Sungai Udang, here at about 11am on May 28. The charge was framed under Section 392 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 14 years and a fine or whipping, upon conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Wardah Ishhar requested a sentence that reflected the seriousness of the offence. The accused, who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency because she is five months pregnant and has four young children under the care of the Social Welfare Department. The court ordered her sentence to run concurrently from the date of her arrest on June 10. Meanwhile, in separate proceedings before Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah, the accused's husband, Muhammad Aliff Aiman Zaini, 24, was sentenced to one year's imprisonment after pleading guilty to receiving and disposing the gold bracelet at a pawn shop on Jalan Kiara 1, Kawasan Perniagaan Kiara Semenyih, Hulu Langat in Selangor at about 4pm on May 28. Separately, the couple was also sentenced to five months' jail effective from the date of their arrest on June 4, after pleading guilty before Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani today to stealing various items belonging to a homestay that was valued at RM1,100. The offence was committed at about 1am in a residential unit at a service apartment in Kota Laksamana here on April 26. They were charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years, a fine, and whipping for a second or subsequent offence, upon conviction.

MELAKA: A 50-year-old restaurant assistant pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh to a charge of allegedly molesting his employer's six-year-old daughter. The accused entered his plea before Judge Haderiah Siri on Monday (June 30). According to the charge, the father of five is accused of deliberately committing physical sexual abuse against the six-year-old girl at about 11.25am on June 21. The charge was framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a prison term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction. It is understood that during the incident, the accused, who helps the victim's father run a business in front of the house, entered the home on the pretext of getting a drink. However, he allegedly locked the door, arousing the father's suspicion, before he was shocked to see the act through a closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording on his mobile phone. Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Azfar Mahmud offered bail at RM20,000, along with additional conditions that the accused must not disturb witnesses and must report to the nearest police station every month. The accused, a divorcee who was unrepresented, appealed for a lower bail amount on the grounds that he only works as a restaurant assistant and has to support his five children and aged mother. The court set the bail at RM9,000 with the additional conditions requested by the prosecution and fixed July 29 as the next mention date.

MELAKA:A staff member of the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) was fined RM10,000 by the Sessions Court here Wednesday (June 11) after pleading guilty to making an offensive post on the social media site X, two years ago. Judge Haderiah Siri meted out the fine, in default six months in jail, on Adi Ariff Ahmad, 51. The man was charged with improper use of network facilities by making and initiating the transmission of an offensive post, via the X account of "Senatorrr Antonio Samad" with intent to annoy others at 11.33am on Oct 11, 2023. The post was seen at 5pm on Oct 11, 2023, at the address JB 3831, Jalan Kelubi Damai 1, Taman Kelubi Damai, Jasin. The charge was framed under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which is punishable under Section 233(3) of the same act and provides a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or a maximum imprisonment of one year or both and may also be fined a further RM1,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction. In mitigation, Adi Ariff, unrepresented, said he was supporting four school-going children and a mother, who is not well. Prosecuting Officer Nazrul Nizam Mohd Zameri, from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), appeared for the prosecution. - Bernama
