Oman: 18 arrested for illegally entering Sultanate
Omani authorities have arrested 18 individuals for entering the country illegally, the Royal Oman Police said on Saturday, July 5. The Police Command in the Governorate of Al Wusta, in cooperation with the Police Special Task Unit in the Wilayat of Haima, made the arrests of the 18 Ethiopians. The authorities added that legal procedures are being completed against the individuals. Authorities urged the public to report any suspicious activities and reiterated their commitment to protecting national security. Last month, Omani authorities had arrested 29 individuals, which included 27 Pakistanis, one Iranian and one Bangladeshi, while they attempted to enter the Sultanate via boat from Iran.

ROP apprehends 18 Ethiopian nationals for illegal entry
Muscat: The Royal Oman Police, represented by the Al Wusta Governorate Command and in cooperation with the Special Tasks Police Unit in Haima, have apprehended eighteen individuals of Ethiopian nationality for unlawfully entering the country. Authorities confirmed that the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to enforce immigration laws and maintain national security. Legal procedures are currently being completed to address the violation.

Oman starts work on Sultan Said bin Taimour Road project
Oman's Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has announced that work has started on the dual-carriageway of Sultan Said bin Taimour Road for parts (3, 4, and 5), spanning approximately 400km, reported Oman News Agency. The Sultan Said bin Taimour Road project, which is being set up at a total cost of over RO258 million ($669 million), ($669 million), will be implemented in three phases. It is due for completion by 2028, it stated. The road is designed for year-round accessibility across various weather conditions and will improve traffic safety through concrete/steel barriers, reflectors, road markings, and warning signs, said the report. It will also support economic, tourism, commercial, and social development, it added. Engineer Said Mohammed Tabook, Director General of Roads and Land Transport in Dhofar Governorate, said the executing companies have begun construction work on the three parts. The Part 3, spanning over 132.5km, extends from Haima to Maqshin, Part 4 covers about 135 km from Maqshin to Dokha, while Part 5 stretches 132.5 km from Dokha to Thumrait, he added.

Three agreements inked for Sultan Said bin Taimour Road
Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology on Tuesday signed three agreements to implement the third, fourth, and fifth sections of Sultan Said bin Taimour Road (Adam-Haima-Thumrait), spanning a total length of 400 km at a cost exceeding OMR258 million. The agreements were signed on behalf of the ministry by Eng. Said Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, who stated that the project's completion will enhance road connectivity across Oman, particularly between the north and south. He added that the project will boost economic and tourism activity. The first agreement was signed with an Omani-Saudi consortium comprising Al Sarooj Construction Company (Oman) and Rawaf Contracting Company (Saudi Arabia). The project involves constructing a 132.5km dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction, to be completed within 36 months. The second agreement was signed with an Omani-Saudi consortium comprising Galfar Engineering & Contracting (Oman) and Al-Omair Trading & Contracting (Saudi Arabia). The 135km dual carriageway project will take 36 months to complete. The third agreement was signed with an Omani-Saudi consortium comprising Gulf Oman Company (Oman) and Koom Al Fahd Trading, Industry & Contracting (Saudi Arabia). The 132.5km dual carriageway will also be completed in 36 months. The three sections complement previously dualized stretches from Adam to Haima (317km). Once completed, the road will form Oman's longest dual carriageway, linking Muscat to Dhofar. The project will enhance road safety, reduce accidents, improve traffic flow, and stimulate economic, social, and tourism activity along the route. It will also boost logistics connectivity across Oman's governorates, extending to Dhofar in the south, while creating opportunities for new economic and urban development. The signing ceremony was attended by Sultan Salim Al Habsi, Minister of Finance, Eng. Badr Salim Al Mamari, Secretary-General of the Tender Board, Sheikh Ahmed Musalam Al Kathiri, Governor of Al Wusta, Eng. Khamis Mohammed Al Shammakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and IT for Transport; Ahmed Hamad Al Maawali, Wali of Thumrait, senior ministry officials and representatives from the Saudi Fund for Development.
