Eid on Tour event comes to Leicester city centre
A free pop-up event aiming to celebrate Eid and share the festival to wider audiences is to be held in on Tour will take place at St Peter's Square in the Highcross Shopping Centre on Saturday and Bilal Khan, who is also behind the Halal Food Festival which tours the country, said the event is about taking Eid "across various cities, bringing that energy and showcasing it to other cultures as to how exciting it is for us".The event will feature 14 street food stalls, performances from a Nigerian drummer and Middle Eastern Dabke dancers, as well as artisan stalls. Eid on Tour runs from 09:00 BST to 20:00 on Saturday and 11:00 to 17:00 on Khan, who was born and raised in Leicester, told the BBC: "The Halal Food Festival has been running for four years."This is the first year that we actually introduced Eid on Tour, because we were doing the food festivals and people were asking for more events, free entry events."And we were like, 'right, how can we give something back to the community?'"He said the event was "not specifically for Muslims, to be quite honest, it's for all the other cultures to come and get involved to come and see and get a get a flavour of what we're about on weekends".

The Scottish Event Campus (SEC) is celebrating its 40th anniversary by marking a record-breaking year. The popular Glasgow venue has seen unparalleled growth in visitor numbers, revenue, and event diversity. In the 2024–2025 financial year, the SEC hosted 50 exhibitions, with 14 new events added to its most diverse portfolio of events to date. Highlights of the year included 'Beyond Van Gogh', the SEC's longest-running event at 47 days, which captivated 50,000 art lovers with its immersive experience. The UK's largest renewable and low-carbon energy exhibition and conference All-Energy reached a new milestone, achieving its biggest edition to date. The SEC also hosted events of cultural significance, such as the Titanic Exhibition, which highlighted Glasgow's historic connection to the ship, and the Halal Food Festival, which engaged both the local Muslim community and foodies from across the city. Dan Thurlow, director of exhibitions at the SEC, said: "This has been an extraordinary year for events at the SEC. The SEC's success is further emphasised by its commitment to sustainability, with the venue achieving Gold Standard in Green Tourism and implementing initiatives like its Sustainable Food Strategy. Gareth Rapley, portfolio director for energy and marine at RX Global, organisers of All Energy, said: "The SEC has been an outstanding partner in helping us maintain our position as the UK's leading renewable energy event. "Their support, combined with Glasgow's accessible location, has enabled us to attract a diverse audience from over 80 countries to date. "The extension of our partnership announced earlier this year is a testament to the strength of their offering."

Hong Kong's Muslims welcome Halal Food Festival as latest step towards inclusivity
Members of Hong Kong's Muslim community have expressed enthusiasm over the city's increasing embrace of halal food and Muslim-friendly initiatives, highlighted by the first outdoor Halal Food Festival in Tsim Sha Tsui. Advertisement The event at Park Lane Shopper's Boulevard on Saturday was seen as a significant step towards greater inclusivity and recognition, aligning with the Hong Kong government's ambition to establish the city as a destination for Muslim travellers. 'This is our first time seeing something like this in Hong Kong, and it's really accepting,' said Sumayya, a long-time Muslim resident of Hong Kong. 'It's a new thing for the city to be doing something like this, and I think it's really cool that they're accepting us Muslims and having this whole halal festival.' Her friend Athiya, added: 'Over the past five years, I would say a lot of new halal catering options have opened up, and it's been really helpful and convenient for us.' Ethnic Minority Resources Centre and the Hong Kong Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community, aimed to showcase the growing availability and diversity of halal cuisine in the city.
