Several reports of teens throwing rocks at cars in Petersfield
"There's a difference between having fun and killing someone" says one of a number of drivers whose car was hit by rocks thrown from a bridge.Sławosz was travelling from Camberley to Fareham at around 17:20 BST on Thursday when his car was struck when he drove under the bridge over the A3 in and Isle of Wight Constabulary said it was aware of "several reports" of young people throwing rocks at cars from bridges in the area.Sławosz's windscreen was cracked in the incident and it has cost him more than £800 to repair the damage. He admitted he did not think the teenagers involved meant to seriously harm anyone but he does believe "that kind of 'entertainment' could kill someone".Petersfield resident Dan French's son Jake, who's in his twenties, suffered a similar experience when travelling back from work on the same day."The fright my son was put through plus the danger of having to stop on a live carriageway is unacceptable," said Mr added: "As a parent, I would urge others to take an interest in what their children are doing and discourage this kind of behaviour. The potential consequences don't bear thinking about."He said his son was "out of pocket" while he waited for the car he needs for work to be Insp Alex Charge, district commander for east Hants and Havant, appealed for anyone with information about incidents like this to contact the said: "Fortunately, no-one has been injured, but vehicles have been damaged, and the community is rightly concerned about this."He encouraged parents to speak to their children about the dangers of this type of behaviour and said officers will be paying particular attention to this area whilst on patrol. Bag of kittens found dumped in park as city cat abuse runs rife
A bag of kittens was found dumped in a park in Southampton, as the director of a charity said that cat abuse is "absolutely on the increase" in the city. One kitten has been left with an ulcerated eye, as the bag of four "could have easily died" if not for a chance encounter with a member of the public in Riverside Park on July 23. Tracy Howe, managing director of The Cat Welfare Group, explained that this is just one of several abuse incidents that she has had to dealt with over the past two months. She explained that a member of the public was walking in Riverside Park and happened to see a "gentlemen just drop a bag and walk away". (Image: The Cat Welfare Group) The member of the public opened the bag to find four kittens abandoned in the park. This is just one of several abuse incidents that Tracy's charity has dealt with over the past two months. On July 3, Hampshire police attended reports of a strong smell coming from a house on Thirlmere Road. A group of Sphynx cats were left boarded up in a house with a mound of dry food. (Image: The Cat Welfare Group) Upon arrival, they discovered seven Sphynx cats had been left alone for weeks, left with a mound of dry food and no water. Tracy described the conditions as "shocking" and "filthy", as cat faeces were all over the floor, pieces of carpet had been eaten away and flies were covering the walls. Hampshire officers called staff from The Cat Welfare Group who attended and helped to rehome the cats. READ MORE: Community rallies together to clean 'disgusting' mess left by travellers Tracy explained that officers "ring at all hours" to ask for the charity's help during visits like that. This cat was found taped up in a bag in a skip on Greenacres Road. (Image: The Cat Welfare Group) Another cat was found on June 21 taped up in a bag inside a skip on Greenacres Road. "That's the tip of the iceberg," Tracy explained. "I wish I could say it's a rare incident but it's really not. It's absolutely on the increase." Another of the kittens dumped in a bag in Riverside Park. (Image: The Cat Welfare Group) Tracy believes that during the coronavirus lockdown, people bought cats and dogs and did not neuter them, leading to a "population boom" a few years later. "People get kittens who are very, very cute but they then have kittens, and it just keeps spiralling," she explained. She believes it then becomes "too much" for some people, who decide to just dump or abandon their pets somewhere else. "I appreciate rescue centres and maxed out and full, but we want people to reach out and let us help," she said. "If we can't take them, we will try and find someone that can, and we will help with the transport for that as well. "These cats die. That's ultimately what we're trying to save."

Teen ‘scalped' in horrifying carnival ride accident
An evening of fun at a carnival on England's south coast has quickly turned into horror after an 18-year-old girl's hair got caught in one of the rides. The teen was one of the many ride goers at the Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Show near Southampton, in Hampshire on Saturday when she slipped and fell backwards while inside the 'Fun House' ride. One shocked onlooker, Emma Perry, told the Daily Echo that the girl's hair got caught in the rollers on the oscillating floor. 'Her friend came off the ride and said she was bleeding, so I offered my services as a first aider,' she said. 'When I got up there, I saw that three quarters of the girl's scalp had been ripped off in what we call a degloving incident.' Ms Perry said the girl was 'screaming' and 'very distressed' as fire crews had to cut a section of the ride away in order to safely place her on a stretcher before she was rushed to hospital for treatment. 'It was so traumatic.' A Hampshire Police spokesperson said they were called to the fair at 10.53pm on July 26 with reports that an 18-year-old woman had sustained 'potentially life-changing injuries' to her head while on a ride. Event organiser, Charles Cole, told the Daily Echo that the 'freak accident' was under investigation. 'Nobody wants to hurt anyone, and we are a family business. Last night was very upsetting, especially for the man who owns the ride. 'Safety is our priority, and we sympathise with the girl and her parents.' The Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Show is yet to comment on the incident.

Uninsured vehicles seized in South West police operation
A joint road policing operation involving three forces from across the South West has seized more than 10 uninsured vehicles through number plate recognition. Officers from Devon and Cornwall, Avon and Somerset, and Hampshire Police forces took part in the operation on Friday, to coincide with the busiest day of travel into region. Thirteen uninsured vehicles were seized and people were also stopped for other crimes including speeding, mobile phone offences and fuel James Gallienne, from Devon and Cornwall Police, said the operation was important as "at least one person every day" is seriously injured by an uninsured or hit and run driver." He added: "Operations like this aim to educate about and enforce the law in order to reduce the number of uninsured drivers on the road and reduce collisions."Devon and Cornwall remain safe places to live and visit and we will continue to be proactive in keeping our road network safe." 'Linked criminal activities' The three police forces worked alongside the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) using Automatic Number Plate Recognition to monitor interchanges on the A30, A38 and A380 to identify uninsured vehicles."Every 20 minutes, someone is falling victim to an uninsured or hit-and-run driver, with one person so seriously injured that they require life-long care," the MIB said. "Removing uninsured vehicles from the road helps protect all road users from potential harm."Additionally, uninsured drivers are frequently linked to other criminal activities, including drug or drink driving, excessive speeding, and organised crime such as drug running."Roads policing inspector Matt Boiles, from Avon and Somerset Police, added: "We typically see a significant rise in traffic volumes at the start of the summer holidays as people travel to and through our region. "By targeting uninsured vehicles, we're aiming to reduce risk to all road users during one of the busiest times of year."The MIB said many of the drivers of the seized vehicles were knowingly uninsured but urged all drivers to check their insurance status
