Owner banned from keeping pets for 10 years after dog left in this horrific state Female bull breed Mia is now unrecognisable after she suffered horrific neglect Mia looked extremely unwell and sad when she was first rescued from her neglectful owner (Image: Hope Rescue ) An emaciated dog who was left in a horrific condition by her neglectful owner is now unrecognisable. Female bull breed Mia was handed into rescue charity Hope Rescue, based in Llanharan, last year while she was extremely underweight and covered in pressure sores. Following a successful appeal for information which identified a possible owner the organisation contacted the RSPCA and Mia's owner was identified. It saw him plead guilty to one offence under the Animal Welfare Act in that he caused unnecessary suffering by failing to adequately investigate and address her weight loss and poor body condition. ‌ He was sentenced to 12 weeks custody which was suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to complete 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days and was disqualified from keeping all animals for 10 years. ‌ He was also ordered to pay £1,200 towards costs. In mitigation it was heard that he was remorseful. The vet who examined Mia said in a statement presented to the court that she was emaciated and that her hips, spine, and ribs were visible. Mia also had infected eyes and body sores. The vet concluded that she was in a suffering state and would have been suffering for a minimum of eight weeks. Thanks to veterinary care and rehabilitation Mia recovered and was happily rehomed. ‌ That was more than a year ago and Hope Rescue has now shared extraordinary pictures of how Mia is getting on. She is now happy and healthy (Image: Hope Rescue ) Mia is unrecognisable in the photographs, which show her looking very happy and healthy. ‌ The rescue shared: "One year ago, Mia found her forever home and last week she celebrated her 1st Gotcha Day with plenty of cuddles and even her very own card. "Her owner says she is doing really well and enjoys her walks with her pal Derrick, another Hope Rescue alumni. "Happy Gotcha Day Mia." ‌ Mia is loved and cared for by her new owners (Image: Hope Rescue ) Although Mia has had a happy ending the rescue centre went on to share that they have found themselves in an "emergency" of animal neglect. They appealed for donations, which can be done via the Hope Rescue website. ‌ She has even made new friends (Image: Hope Rescue ) They shared: "While Mia's story has a happy ending we're facing a growing crisis. "This year alone we've seen a sharp rise in cases of cruelty and neglect. Article continues below "We're in the midst of a real emergency, with more dogs than ever needing our help."
