Jangaon schools to follow U-shape seating for inclusive learning

After Hyderabad District Collector Hari Chandana Dasari called for U-shape seating arrangement in schools, Jangaon District Collector Rizwan Basha Shaik has taken up the initiative to make classrooms more interactive and inclusive. Prompted by Malayalam movie Sthanarthi Sreekuttan's seating arrangement to do away with backbenchers, government schools in various parts of the State have voluntarily rearranged the seating. But according to Mr. Shaik, all primary classrooms in the district have been restructured to adopt this modern layout. 'Education must grow with time. Our aim is to make classrooms more interactive, inclusive and effective. U-seating is not just about how students sit; it is about how they learn, engage and evolve,' he was quoted as saying, as posted by an official at the Chief Minister's Office on X. The new design also respects health and comfort. If a student experiences any discomfort such as neck strain, teachers are instructed to make necessary adjustments immediately, it clarified. Further, with digital learning tools enhancing classroom experiences, U-shaped seating adds another dimension to student success, the official post said. 'This initiative represents a powerful shift, not just in furniture layout, but in educational philosophy. In Jangaon's classrooms today, every child matters,' Mr. Shaik said.

Hyderabad government schools to adopt rectangle seating mode

HYDERABAD: Taking inspiration from the Malayalam film Sthanarthi Sreekuttan, Hyderabad District Collector Hari Chandana Dasari has directed all government schools in the city to replace traditional back-bench seating with a rectangle-shaped classroom arrangement. The idea gained momentum during her inspection of the Tribal Welfare Water Sports Academy and Tribal Welfare Ashram Boys School in Bowenpally, Secunderabad, on Tuesday. Her visit included a review of infrastructure, sports training, digital education, and hostel facilities. During the interaction, she advised students to adopt the rectangle-shaped seating layout. She said, 'I saw this concept in a Malayalam film where all students sit in a single row, and I learned that many schools in Kerala have adopted it. With the teacher at the centre, every student is visible, and all can participate equally. Typically, students who sit at the back tend to lose focus. This change aims to eliminate that problem.' Meanwhile, a similar initiative in Tamil Nadu faced criticism from experts who expressed concern over the potential health impact — neck issues and visual strain from the new seating arrangements — on children. It was put on hold on Saturday and later introduced on Monday in select schools where classrooms have fewer students and sufficient space. When asked by TNIE about it, Hari Chandana said that the Hyderabad model is different. 'Tamil Nadu schools have introduced a semi-circle layout, resembling the Tamil letter 'Pa.' Our rectangle-shaped design is unique and promotes student-centred learning. It ensures no student is ignored or left out,' she said. She added that this seating model is experimental: 'If the outcomes are positive, we will go ahead. If not, we can revert to the traditional setup.'

Hyderabad collector calls for U-shaped seating in schools to do away with back benches

Hyderabad District Collector Hari Chandana Dasari has directed schools in the district to do away with back bench seating and adopt a 'U'-shaped arrangement in all classrooms. The seating arrangement in schools is in the news after a Malayalam movie 'Sthanarthi Sreekuttan' spotlighted how it shapes children. During her inspection of the Tribal Welfare Water Sports Academy and Tribal Welfare Ashram Boys School in Bowenpally, Secunderabad, on Tuesday (July 15, 2025) the Collector said that back benches often distance students from teachers and lead to disengagement. 'To ensure every child is equally involved in learning, teachers must arrange classrooms in a U-shape without any back benches,' she said, adding that this layout fosters better interaction, especially in schools catering to marginalised communities. The visit formed part of her review of infrastructure, sports training, digital education, and hostel facilities. The collector instructed officials to integrate sports training into the academic routine, identifying students' interests early and preparing them to compete at national and international levels. She congratulated students who recently won silver and bronze medals in boating competitions held in the Philippines. The Collector highlighted that the state government views education and sports as complementary, and she urged schools to nurture both equally. She called for immediate steps to improve Class 10 results by organising special coaching in subjects like Mathematics and Physics for underperforming students. 'Form peer learning groups to help one another. Students must study with passion and lift each other,' she said. The collector instructed schools to prioritise digital classrooms and computer lab use, particularly from Classes 6 to 10. She urged teachers to make use of the TSAT platform to broaden students' awareness on educational topics.

Anti-diarrhoea campaign begins in Hyderabad

With the onset of monsoon season, the administration has launched a district-wide campaign to prevent and manage diarrhoea cases, with special focus on vulnerable areas of the district. Hyderabad District Collector Hari Chandana Dasari, presiding over a review meeting of the District Task Force Committee on Monday, directed officials from the Health Department, along with allied departments, to ensure preparedness and coordination under the 'Stop Diarrhoea Campaign – 2025'. The Collector highlighted that no child death due to diarrhoea should occur in the district and called for action to reduce the under-five mortality rate in line with the goals of the National Health Policy. She also instructed medical officials to prioritise areas that reported a higher incidence of diarrhoea in the previous year. 'All government hospitals must stock both diarrhoea medicines and ORS sachets. Further, ORS sachets and zinc tablets supplied by the Health Department must be made available at every Anganwadi centre, school, and hostel,' she said. The Collector also directed the GHMC to ensure environmental sanitation, tank cleaning, regular water testing, and disinfection, while the HMWSSB has been tasked with ensuring the supply of clean drinking water.

WE Hub to handhold women entrepreneurs from smaller towns of Telangana

Telangana government's WE Hub has launched a programme to give wings to entrepreneurial potential among women from tier 2 and 3 regions of the State. The first two cohorts, comprising 120 aspiring women entrepreneurs selected through district-level bootcamps, of the WE Reach programme were launched by Hyderabad collector Hari Chandana Dasari. WE Reach will provide comprehensive, end-to-end support to women at the ideation stage, helping them move towards establishing sustainable businesses, WE Hub said in a release. Capacity building is at the heart of initiative and it is to be achieved through inculcating business skills, financial and digital literacy awareness creation, mentorship, familiarisation visits to MSME enterprises. Assistance to set up units also figures in the programme to equip participants with requisite tools to start and scale their enterprises. 'Empowering women entrepreneurs at the grassroots is crucial for inclusive development. Programmes like WE Reach not only create economic opportunities for women but also drive long-term social transformation in our communities,' Ms. Chandana said. WE Reach is a significant step towards inclusive growth and equitable access to entrepreneurial opportunities, WE Hub CEO Sita Pallacholla said, adding that the women entrepreneurs are not only stepping into the world of business but are also on the path to economic empowerment and formalising their business ventures.
