Cong MP, MLA on way to Basanpeer stopped at border
1 2 Jaisalmer: Police stopped Congress MP Umedaram Beniwal and MLA Harish Chaudhary at the Jaisalmer-Barmer district border on Saturday as they attempted to reach Basanpeer for an all-faith assembly. The event was initially prohibited under BNSS Section 163, banning gatherings of more than five people without permission. Following a heated exchange between the politicians and the law enforcement, and some pushing by supporters, a compromise was reached. The assembly was relocated to Lohariser pond near the border, where it proceeded from 1pm to 3pm. Notable Congress members, including former minister Hemaram Chaudhary and former MLAs Rupa Ram Medhwal and Madan Prajapat, attended the alternative venue. The event featured speeches, Gandhi hymns and interfaith prayers. Speaking at the gathering, Chaudhary expressed concern about growing discord in the Thar region, while Beniwal criticised the administration's actions as "disgraceful," suggesting they were acting under political pressure. Heavy security arrangements were maintained throughout the event, with police superintendents from both districts present. Following the assembly, authorities established checkpoints to monitor vehicle movement between the districts.

Cong may announce district prez appointments by month-end
Bhopal: The AICC is likely to clear the list of district presidents for the state by the end of the month. Sources in the state Congress office said the final discussions were between PCC chief Jitu Patwari, AICC general secretary for Madhya Pradesh affairs Harish Chaudhary and national party organisational general secretary KC Venugopal. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "Reports submitted by the central observers and state observers are being matched to select the final names for 60 organisational district presidents for Madhya Pradesh," a source said. Meanwhile, Patwari, LOP Umang Singhar and a few more senior functionaries from the state have visited New Delhi to speak to central leaders on their choice of district presidents. However, the AICC officially asked state leaders not to come to Delhi. Instead, they have been asked to send letters if they have suggestions. So far, district president appointments were influenced by recommendations of senior leaders. But on June 3, Lok Sabha LOP Rahul Gandhi launched the CWC-approved Sangathan Srajan Abhiyan, the restructuring of the Congress party organization in the state. Madhya Pradesh is the first state to undergo the remodeling of the party after the pilot project has been completed in Gujarat. At the CWC meeting in Ahmedabad in April, the Congress' highest decision-making body decided to restructure the organization and match up with the BJP's organizational strength. It was decided to start with Gujarat as the model state. After Rahul Gandhi's visit, it was decided that the first phase of organizational restructuring would start with the appointment of Congress district presidents. AICC general secretary in-charge of Madhya Pradesh affairs Harish Chaudhary had claimed that appointment of district president would be completed by June 20. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now However, a month has passed since the deadline and the party is still discussing names of candidates and matching the ground reports prepared by AICC observers and state Congress observers who went to the districts and spoke to party workers. Speaking to TOI, state Congress media cell chief and former minister Mukesh Nayak denied the district president appointments have been delayed. "We are not running late. The AICC sent central observers to the districts and thereafter, the state observers also visited the grassroots to ask party workers to name suitable district presidents," Nayak explained. "The reports of the AICC observers and the state observers are being matched. The meetings are in the final stages, and we can expect the list of district presidents to be released by the AICC soon," he said. Party spokesman Abbas Hafeez argued, "Madhya Pradesh is a big state. And there are districts with two organizational presidents' posts – one for rural and the other for urban areas like Bhopal city Congress president and Bhopal rural district president. The democratic process takes time. And unlike the BJP, the Congress will not announce district presidents one by one. The high command will announce the names soon. " Ruling BJP took a dig. State BJP media department chief Ashish Agarwal took to X and said, "Congress district president appointment is not about capabilities but depends on a quota system. If a person fits the 'quota', only then will he get the district president's chair. Democracy be doomed, here only the leaders' recommendation prevails."

Congress corners BJP over delay in implementation of 27 per cent OBC reservation in Madhya Pradesh
New Delhi [India], June 28 (ANI): Congress on Saturday cornered the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Madhya Pradesh for its wilful delay in providing 27 per cent reservation to Other Backward Classes (OBCs) despite the passing of the concerned legislation and clearing of the same by the courts. The party demanded the immediate implementation of 27 per cent reservations for OBCs in Madhya Pradesh, as it has been categorically cleared by the Supreme Court. Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, senior party leaders, including former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Madhya Pradesh Congress in-charge Harish Chaudhary, MP PCC president Jitu Patwari and AICC OBC Department Chairman Anil JaiHind alleged that the BJP was revealing its anti-reservation and anti-backwards classes mindset by deliberately delaying the reservation benefits to the OBCs. Harish Chaudhary stated that it was the Congress government that originally provided 14 per cent reservation to the OBCs in 1994. Later, in 2003, again, it was the Congress government that raised the quota to 27 per cent. However, after the elections, the BJP government was formed, and it never implemented the decision. He stated that after 16 years, when the Congress government was formed in 2019 under the leadership of Kamal Nath, it introduced an ordinance providing 27 per cent reservation for OBCs. However, the BJP challenged it in court, which then directed that a law be enacted on the matter. 'We subsequently got the bill passed in the Assembly.' He added that as the BJP formed the government again, it did not implement the OBC reservation bill. Chaudhary stated that the High Court dismissed the pleas against the 27 per cent reservations, and the BJP government subsequently approached the Supreme Court. He noted that the Supreme Court also upheld it and issued a notice to the MP government on June 25, inquiring why the 27 per cent reservation benefit for OBCs was not being implemented. Bhupesh Baghel, while accusing the BJP of having an anti-reservation mindset, disclosed that the Congress government in Chhattisgarh had unanimously passed a law in December 2022 to provide 27 per cent reservation to OBCs. However, the bill is yet to get the nod of the Governor. He said this is because the BJP does not want to provide 27 per cent reservations to the OBCs. He seconded Chaudhary's stand that not only will the Congress fight the issue legally, but it will also raise it publicly to build pressure on the BJP government to implement it. Jitu Patwari said that it was strange that Prime Minister Modi claims himself to be an OBC, and yet he was not providing the OBC community its rightful due. He said the OBC Chief Ministers of MP belonging to the BJP, like Uma Bharti, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Mohan Yadav, have all betrayed their community. Anil JaiHind maintained that the BJP and the RSS have always been against the reservation. Citing an example, he said the law on reservation for Dalits, OBCs and Adivasis in private educational institutions has been deliberately delayed by the BJP government since 2014. (ANI)

Cong holds hunger protest in Gwalior demanding installation of Ambedkar statue in HC
Bhopal: The State Congress held a day's Constitution Satyagraha and hunger protest in Gwalior on Wednesday, demanding the installation of the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar in the High Court premises. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Senior Congress leaders, people's representatives, and organisation office-bearers sat in protest and pledged to protect Dr Ambedkar's thoughts and the basic spirit of the Constitution. The protest was led by the party in-charge for Madhya Pradesh affairs, Harish Chaudhary, former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh, state Congress President Jitu Patwari, and LOP Umang Singhar. Other prominent party leaders present included CWC member Kamleshwar Patel, CEC member Omkar Markam, Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Singh, state co-in-charge Sanjay Dutt, deputy LOP Hemant Katare, former LOP Govind Singh, former assembly Speaker NP Prajapati, former ministers Sajjan Singh Verma, Jaivardhan Singh, Lakhan Ghanghoria, Lakhan Singh Yadav, Mukesh Nayak, and MLAs Phool Singh Baraiya, Fundelal Singh Marko, Dinesh Gurjar, Suresh Raje, Satish Sikarwar, Saheb Singh Gurjar, Pankaj Upadhyay, Mukesh Malhotra, Babu Jandel, Devendra Sakhwar, Kailash Kushwah, Nitendra Singh Rathore, Keshav Desai, former assembly deputy Speaker Hina Kawre, and former MLA Praveen Pathak. Addressing the gathering, state party in-charge Harish Chaudhary said, "Administrative permission was already obtained for the installation of Baba Saheb's statue in the Gwalior High Court premises, yet stopping it is a well-planned conspiracy and a trick of anti-constitutional forces. Congress will not remain silent against this injustice." State PCC Chief Jitu Patwari launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP for observing Black Day to recall the imposition of Emergency by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on June 25, 1975. Patwari said, "The BJP is doing all this to hide its sins. They should celebrate Black Day because the maximum number of Dalit sisters went missing from this state. Madhya Pradesh has become the capital of maximum atrocities on Dalits. There is a long list of BJP leaders who are constantly tormenting and suppressing the common people. The BJP toppled 12-13 govts through horse-trading of 600 MLAs. If this is not a reason for a Black Day, then what is?" LOP Umang Singhar argued, "This protest is not just for the installation of the statue, but a fight to protect social justice and constitutional values. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Congress will fight the forces weakening the Constitution at every level." Former Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh said that if the govt does not install Baba Saheb Ambedkar's statue in the court premises, it will be clear that the govt's intention is anti-Constitution and anti-Ambedkar. "The Sangh never accepted the Constitution and even today it is working with the same mindset. Congress is committed to saving the Constitution," Singh alleged. The Congress accused the BJP-RSS combine of reducing Babasaheb Ambedkar's contribution and creating class conflict in society. The party functionaries said that both these organisations are afraid of Ambedkar's ideology and want to throw the country into the fire of caste hatred. Congress will continue to struggle to protect Babasaheb's ideas with the resolve to build an egalitarian society, they said. The Congress party reiterated that this struggle will continue until Dr Ambedkar's statue is installed in the court premises.
