Moment brazen ‘Rolex Ripper' gang snared after trying to mug undercover cops in botched robbery – as they're jailed
THIS is the moment a gang of brazen "Rolex Rippers" were snared while trying to mug undercover cops in a botched robbery. Both officers then chased Harket down with two other cops before tackling him to the ground. More officers then rushed in on bikes as they discovered another three suspected accomplices lurking nearby. Harket and another man, Mohamed Naas, 34, were arrested shortly afterwards. The pair have now been jailed for a total of five years after they were convicted of robbery. Mr Recorder Jacques Algazy KC, told Harket and Naas, assisted in the dock by an Arabic interpreter: "This was highly organised crime involving stealing to order. "This was motivated by greed, not need." Harket was jailed for two years after the judge took into account his guilty plea while Naas was jailed for three years. They were accused of being a part of a "Rolex ripper" gang who target wealthy people and steal their jewellery. Officers launched the sting operation after carrying out similar undercover missions across London. The cops posed as a rich couple with posh clothes and expensive replica jewellery to lure the gang. The male officer was wearing a £40,000 Rolex Sky Dealer watch, while the female cop had a replica Patek Philippe Rose Gold watch. Jurors were shown several clips of the officers walking from Berkeley Square to Hays Mews on the evening of October 10 last year. Harket managed to rip the replica Patek Philippe, which would be worth £70,000, from the female officer's watch but dropped it in the chase. Adel Mohamdi, 31, and Yanis Amri, 37, had also followed the couple but managed to flee - with a warrant still out for their arrest. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Tackling violent crime is one of the Met's priorities and we are determined to reduce the number of robberies. A-ha frontman Morten Harket reveals Parkinson's diagnosis
A-ha frontman Morten Harket has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, he revealed in an article published on the band's website Wednesday. The 'Take On Me' singer told biographer Jan Omdahl that he underwent a procedure for deep brain stimulation (DBS) in June 2024, addressing the left side of his brain, and a similar one in December for the right. Parkinson's causes parts of one's brain to deteriorate and affects muscle control, balance and movement, as well as thinking ability and mental health, according to the Cleveland Clinic. 'The simple fact that, on good days, Morten shows virtually no sign of many of the most familiar physical symptoms of Parkinson's, doesn't mean that he is well,' wrote Omdahl, who penned the Norwegian band's 2003 biography, 'The Swing of Things.' Omdahl recounted Harket's 'round-the-clock effort to balance medication, signals from the electrodes in his brain, sleep, blood sugar and mindset in a way that keeps the symptoms and side effects more or less in check,' though it 'isn't always successful.' Harket said he doesn't 'expect to be able to achieve full technical control' of his voice anymore, even as he works on unreleased music. 'The question is whether I can express myself with my voice,' he told Omdahl. 'As things stand now, that's out of the question.' Harket, however, told fans not to worry and instead 'spend your energy and effort addressing real problems, and know that I am being taken care of.' A-ha — a synth-pop trio whose members also include Magne Furuholmen and Paul Waaktaar-Savoy — is best known for their 1980s hits 'Take On Me,' 'Cry Wolf' and 'The Sun Always Shines on TV.' The band split in 2009 but briefly reunited in 2015. In it, the singer-songwriter said he'd been experiencing vocal issues as a result of his condition, and admitted he was unsure about a return to the concert stage. 'The problems with my voice are one of many grounds for uncertainty about my creative future,' he said. A native of Kongsberg, Norway, Harket formed a-ha with keyboardist Magne Furuholmen and guitarist Paul Waaktaar-Savoy in 1982. Three years later, the band catapulted to international fame with their breakout smash, 'Take On Me.' The song's success was buoyed by its now-iconic music video, which combined live-action performance footage with pencil-sketch animation. Acknowledging he'd known about his bandmate's diagnosis 'for some time,' he said the news 'brings sadness,' but stressed 'there is also a lot of gratitude: for all the amazing memories, for how our combined creative efforts as a band have been so generously embraced by the world, and for how lucky we are that people continue to find meaning, hope and joy in our shared musical legacy.' In his chat with Omdahl, Harket said he didn't expect to regain 'full technical control' over his vocals, but had nonetheless been working on new songs 'that I've got great belief in, and I feel the lyrics, especially, have something of a different aspect of me in them.'
