AAP hand in glove with BJP-led Central government, says Punjab Congress chief Warring

By Harpreet Kaur , Hoshiarpur Jun 30, 2025 08:42 AM IST Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Sunday alleged that the AAP government in Punjab is hand in glove with the Centre and that's why chief minister Bhagwant Mann acted against the farmers. Hoshirpur, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring addressing a rally in Hoshiarpur on Sunday. (Harpreet Kaur/HT) Addressing a 'Samvidhan Bachao' rally, Warring said that agriculture was Punjab's lifeline and the BJP-led government was bent on destroying it by enforcing farm laws and denying minimum support price (MSP) to crops. The rally was organised by former minister Sunder Sham Arora. 'The Centre thinks that if it will touch their raw nerve, the whole Punjab will feel the pain. Then it will be easy for it to enforce its ideology', Warring alleged, stating that the BJP-led Union government was weakening the state as it refused to accept RSS ideology. Warring said that the RSS and the BJP never accepted the Constitution and after coming to power, were strategising to weaken it. 'The Congress, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi would never allow it. It was because of the Constitution that the Indians had become 'citizens' or else they would still be 'subjects' of their rulers. The Constitution brought equality and secularism and gave people the right to live respectfully. It is the responsibility of every citizen to save the Constitution,' he added. Later talking to the media, Warring said that there was no rift in the party. 'Like other families, the Congress family too has some differences but you cannot call them rift. These are temporary and when Punjab's interest will be at stake, all will come together,' he said.

After Operation Sindoor: Underground emergency cum operation theatre to come up at Poonch dist hospital

The Jammu and Kashmir government is planning to construct an underground emergency cum operation theatre and critical care centre at Poonch district hospital - a first of its kind facility in J&K. The government has sent a proposal for approval of construction for an underground emergency, critical care facility and operation theatre. (HT Photo) The move comes after the recent cross-border shelling by Pakistan in the biggest border district of Poonch in May during Operation Sindoor, that left 16 persons dead. The government has sent a proposal for approval of construction for an underground emergency, critical care facility and operation theatre. Officials said if everything goes as per plan, the 200 bed hospital will become the first medical facility in J&K having underground facilities which will be utilised during exigency or war like situation. Medical superintendent district hospital, Poonch, Dr Shafeeq, said that during four days of shelling in March the doctors helped every injured patient. 'Almost all the patients were treated here. Only a few injured were shifted to Jammu Medical College. We have almost all facilities and staff to deal with such emergencies.' He, however, said that the government had big plans to re-equip the district hospital in Poonch. 'A proposal has been sent to upgrade the district hospital with an underground emergency, OT and staff accommodation. Even bullet proof ambulances are on cards. I am very much hopeful this project or infrastructure development will be completed within two years.' He said the hospital has around 200 staff members, including 35 doctors. 'Here are 15 posts of doctors vacant which will also be filled.' The locals acknowledged that when district officers, even head of the district, left the Poonch town towards safer places, the doctors and other medical staff were present in the hospital, however the lack of equipment was the biggest impediment. 'Our district hospital doesn't have a ventilator. My husband, after receiving splinters along with his brother, walked into the hospital and died two hours later. Sometimes, I think better equipment and facilities could have saved my husband. The doctors were present in hospital but they lacked the latest equipment,' said Harpreet Kaur whose husband Amarjit Singh succumbed to injuries in the hospital. Gulzar Ahmad, who owns a shop outside the hospital, said the recent shelling is a warning that our district hospital should be well equipped... 'The hospital despite being decades old has many shortcomings. After all top political leaders, including home minister, Amit Shah J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah and leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi visited Poonch and interacted with locals there is a ray of hope the facilities and infrastructure will be upgraded.' Medical superintendent, however, said they had put 12 ambulances in service during four days of shelling. 'We treated dozens of injured persons and shifted only a few people to higher centres. The medical staff without caring for their saved others.'

Overflowing drains flood Mohali homes, season's 1st rain turns residents' nightmare

Mohali: The season's first major monsoon downpour turned into a nightmare for residents of Mohali and nearby towns, as ankle- to knee-deep water flooded homes overnight, exposing glaring deficiencies in the region's stormwater drainage infrastructure. Heavy rainfall that began late Saturday evening continued through the night, inundating several areas including phases 3B2, 4, 5, 7, 11, and sectors 70 and 71. In these low-lying areas, water surged into homes, forcing residents to spend the night with flooded floors and soaked furniture. In some places, fire tenders had to be called in to pump out water from roads and residential streets. "Water started entering the houses around 10pm. We couldn't even pump it out in the incessant rainfall. We had no choice but to sleep in ankle-deep water," Harpreet Kaur, a resident of Phase 4, said. While water pumps were deployed in various areas, residents complained that they were poorly positioned, resulting in water being pumped out of one area only to flood another. Streets in the Industrial Area Phases 7 and 8 resembled streams, with over a foot of water accumulating and causing traffic snarls. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em Pinhais (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo "We surveyed the entire city four months ago and identified major faults in the stormwater system. We need Rs 200 crore to implement the solution, but the state govt has yet to clear our proposal," admitted mayor Amarjeet Singh Sidhu. Revealing that the survey recommended diverting rainwater to seasonal rivulets (choes) near Balongi, Lakhnaur, YPS, and Kambali, he said, "Until funds are released, we're helpless". Deputy mayor Kuljeet Singh Bedi highlighted that ongoing airport road construction worsened the issue. "Every monsoon, residents live in fear. If homes are getting flooded in central sectors like 70 and 71, it speaks volumes about our preparedness," he said. With more rain predicted in the coming days, residents are demanding urgent measures to prevent further waterlogging. "Flooding isn't new — it happens every year. But this level of apathy is unacceptable," Manpreet Singh, a resident of Sector 71, said. As the water recedes and cleanup begins, residents remain skeptical about whether authorities will take long-term measures or continue with temporary firefighting every monsoon season.

Family-run Scottish DIY store crowned Britain's Best Small Business

The store's witty Scots name impressed the public and judging panel A family-run DIY shop in Dunoon has nailed it, quite literally, by being crowned Britain's Best Small Business Name for 2025. Dae It Yersel, a well-loved fixture in the Argyll town, saw off competition from more than 2,000 other small businesses across the UK to win the coveted title, along with a £2,500 cash prize from small business insurer Simply Business. ‌ The name, a playful Scots take on Do It Yourself, clearly struck a chord with the public and judging panel, which included entrepreneur and The Apprentice winner Harpreet Kaur. ‌ From landscaping company Back to the Fuchsia and restaurant Balti Towers to pub The Nobody Inn and food truck Pietanic, the competition was stacked with witty entries that showcased the creativity of Britain's entrepreneurs. Helena McLay, co-owner of Dae It Yersel, said the win means a great deal to her family. 'Dae It Yersel has been family-owned since my mother, father and then-20-year-old brother took over a tiny wee DIY shop in 1970,' she said. 'I've been around the shop since I was 3, and used to spend my after-school hours and school holidays here.' Helena, who now runs the business alongside her nephew, added: 'The name is obviously the Glaswegian or Scots version of 'Do It Yourself'. For both myself and my nephew... the shop has always been a part of our lives, it is the heart and soul of the family. "There have been many tough times, from losing my mum, dad, and brother to COVID, but there are far more rewarding times and lifelong friendships that have arisen from our years in Dae It Yersel. We couldn't be more delighted to have won.' ‌ She also shared a charming anecdote: 'We often get people standing across the road taking photos of the shop name, and the furthest travelled pic was sent to us by someone who had visited Dunoon from New Zealand and sent their photo into a magazine with the heading 'How's this for getting the message over to the locals'.' The business name contest, now in its latest edition, celebrates the originality and spirit of the UK's small business community. ‌ Simply Business also commissioned research which revealed that 51 percent of shoppers are more likely to support a business if its name makes them smile. Julie Fisher, UK CEO of Simply Business, praised the result: 'It's clear from the voting that Dae It Yersel are a hugely popular small business in their local community.
