2-year-old boy suffers gunshot wound on Chicago's West Side

A 2-year-old boy suffered what was believed to be an accidental gunshot wound Monday evening in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on Chicago's West Side, police said. At 8:26 p.m., police were called to a home in the 400 block of North Lawndale Avenue after the toddler entered a bedroom where an unsecured gun was located, police said. A man heard a loud noise, and found the 2-year-old boy with a graze would to the left wrist, police said. The boy was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in good condition, police said. No one was custody late Monday. A weapon was recovered on the scene. Harrison Area detectives are investigating.

4 men wounded in shooting on Chicago's West Side

Four people were wounded in a shooting in the South Austin neighborhood on Chicago's West Side in the midday hours Sunday. At 12:18 p.m., the four men were on the sidewalk in the 4900 block of West Ferdinand Street, between Lamon and Lavergne avenues, when three armed people got out of a vehicle and shot them. A 26-year-old man was shot in the ankle, while a 51-year-old man was shot in the flank. Both were taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County. A 31-year-old man was shot in the shoulder, and a 37-year-old man was shot in the legs. They were both taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. The victims were all reported in good condition. No one was in custody late Sunday. Harrison Area detectives are investigating.

Two people, one of them a 14-year-old boy were shot and wounded in Douglass Park on Chicago's West Side Thursday evening. At 7:03 p.m., the victims were in the 1400 block of South Sacramento Drive in the North Lawndale neighborhood park, near Douglas Boulevard, when a male shooter came up and shot them both. The 14-year-old boy was shot in the neck. The second victim, a male of an unknown age, was shot in the back. Both were taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in serious condition. Harrison Area detectives are investigating.

Shooting on Chicago's West Side leaves woman dead

A woman was shot and killed in a car in Chicago's North Lawndale neighborhood Thursday afternoon. At 2:34 p.m., the woman was sitting in a car in the 1600 block of South Ridgeway Avenue when three people came up. One of them took out a gun and shot the woman, police said. The woman was shot in the head and torso and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said. A white car was seen crashed into a tree at the scene. The scene of the shooting is about a block from William Penn Elementary School, 1616 S. Avers Ave., but the incident is not believed to be connected to the school. Harrison Area detectives are investigating.

Two men were shot and wounded in an alley in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood Wednesday evening. At 6:22 p.m., the men, ages 25 and 26, were standing in the alley behind the 700 block of North Spaulding Avenue when they heard multiple gunshots and were struck. The younger man was shot in his left wrist and finger and was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in good condition. The older man was shot in his chest and right shoulder and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition. There was no one in custody late Wednesday. Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
