Nagpur Rural police remove 265 unauthorized loudspeakers from religious places

Nagpur: In a major drive to enforce Bombay High Court directives, the Nagpur rural police have removed 265 unauthorised loudspeakers from religious sites across the district. The action was carried out under the supervision of SP (Rural) Harssh Poddar, with a focus on impartial enforcement across all communities and religious establishments. The loudspeakers removed included: 34 under Ramtek police sub-division, 9 under Saoner, 45 under Katol, 164 under Umred, and 13 under Nagpur police sub-division. The drive follows a directive issued by the Bombay High Court in January, instructing police authorities to act against sound systems violating noise pollution norms. The HC specifically called for the removal of unauthorised loudspeakers and barred new illegal installations at religious places. Further reinforcing this, the Maharashtra director general of police (DGP) issued an order on April 11 mandating strict action under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Act, 2000. Police have also warned vendors against supplying non-compliant audio equipment, stressing that legal action will be taken against violators. Local communities have been urged to cooperate with the authorities to ensure compliance. The Nagpur rural police reiterated their commitment to continuous monitoring and strict enforcement to prevent future violations.
