Maharashtra approves Rs 20,787 crores for Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway
The Maharashtra cabinet on Tuesday approved 20,787 crores in land acquisition for the 802 km Maharashtra Shaktipeeth expressway connecting Pavnar (Wardha) to Patradevi (Sindhudurg) on the Maharashtra-Goa expressway will link 12 districts namely Wardha, Yavatmal, Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani, Beed, Latur, Dharashiv, Solapur, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Sindhudurg and connect to the Konkan aims to enhance pilgrimage tourism by linking major spiritual sites, including Shaktipeeths like Mahur, Tuljapur, and Kolhapur, as well as Ambajogai, Pandharpur's Shri Vitthal Rukmini Temple, and Jyotirlingas at Aundha Nagnath and Parli Vaijnath. They urged dialogue with affected farmers to address response, the cabinet approved a partial alignment from Pavanar to Sangli, covering over 700 km, while scrapping the route through Kolhapur's Shirol, Karvir, Hatkanangale, Kagal, Bhudargad, and Ajara Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed MSRDC to propose an alternative alignment for the Sangli-Sindhudurg stretch, with consultations planned involving local stakeholders told sources. Also, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar while speaking to reporters confirmed the government's willingness to adjust the alignment to address farmer concerns, emphasising no forced expressway, positioned as a cultural and religious corridor, will enhance connectivity across Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Western Maharashtra, linking key pilgrimage sites like Mahalaxmi Temple (Kolhapur), Tulja Bhavani Temple (Dharashiv), and Renuka Mata Shakti Peeth (Nanded).The project, executed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), includes 12,000 crores from Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) loan for acquiring nearly 7500 hectares of land. - Ends

Inadequacies in govt colleges pointed out by NMC addressed, says state health education minister
Kolhapur: Top health officials have responded to the inadequacies pointed out by National Medical Council in govt medical colleges, state health education minister Hasan Mushrif said. Late last month, most govt medical colleges received show-cause notices from NMC, citing various inadequacies, including staff shortage and other logistical issues crucial for imparting medical learning to students. Mushrif told TOI, "The secretary of the department of medical education and research was personally asked to attend a hearing by NMC. We have tried to address the inadequacies, and some are in the pipeline. " The NMC threatened to impose a fine of Rs 1 crore on medical colleges if the inadequacies were not addressed. The top regulatory body conducts surprise visits every year at medical colleges and audits whether the conditions set are met. Most colleges in Maharashtra were found to have inadequate employees, and directions were issued to recruit staffers. A dean of a govt medical college from the region said, "We apprised the directorate of medical education and research of the needs of the college, and accordingly, a recruitment advertisement has been published. " The other inadequacies related to shortage of beds and cadavers in dissection laboratories.

Residents of 18 villages to observe bandh today to oppose merger into KMC limits
Kolhapur: Residents of 18 villages and two MIDCs slated for merger into Kolhapur municipal limits would observe a ' bandh ' on Tuesday, saying they would approach the Bombay high court for a stay if govt tried to impose the merger on them. Besides, they plan to boycott upcoming elections and bar administrative officials from entering their areas. Members of the All Party Anti-Merger Action Committee held a press conference at the Kolhapur Press Club, criticising the proposed merger. They taunted minister Hasan Mushrif for suggesting that if govt wanted to merge certain areas into Kolhapur civic limits, they should also include Kagal in the proposal. Kolhapur Municipal Corporation had sent a proposal to state govt to merge Shiroli, Nagaon, Valivade-Gandhinagar, Mudshingi, Sarnobatwadi, Gokul Shirgaon, Pachgaon, Morewadi, Ujlaiwadi, Balinge, Kalamba, Uchgaon, Vadipir, Ambewadi, Vadange, Shiye, Shingnapur, Nagdevwadi, besides Shiroli and Gokul Shirgaon MIDCs, into the municipal limits. Admission process starts at Maharashtra's first yoga and naturopathy college
Kolhapur: Commencement of admission for the first year of the Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences (BNYS) programme started at Maharashtra's first govt Yoga and Naturopathy College and Hospital at Uttur in Ajara tehsil of Kolhapur district, with its inauguration on Friday. State medical education minister Hasan Mushrif attended the event and expressed confidence that students and people from across the globe would come to the college for studies and the hospital for treatment. Commissioner of medical education and drugs department Rajiv Nivatkar, director of AYUSH directorate Raman Ghungralekar, pro-vice-chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik, Milind Nikumbh, dean of the Government Yoga and Naturopathy College and Hospital, Uttur, Bhagyashree Khot, and senior district officials were present at the event. "The building of the college will be ready in the next two years. The classes will be held temporarily in another building. The govt has sanctioned Rs 205 crore to build the college on a sprawling 15-acre campus. There are just five yoga colleges in the country so far, and Uttur's will be the sixth. Traditional wrestling arenas to get infra boost with Rs4.5cr fund
Kolhapur: A fund of Rs 4.5 crore has been approved under the District Planning and Development Committee (DPDC) for the renovation of traditional and old-age Talims (wrestling arenas) in Kolhapur city. The renovation project will boost infrastructures of Motibaug Talim, Shahu Vijayi Gangavesh Talim and other talims. These places will also receive exercise equipment. Accordingly, under the project, Rs 29.56 lakh was approved for the renovation of Shahu Chhatrapati New Motibaug Talim Mandal. A fund of Rs 2.68 crore was granted for the construction of a hostel, gym, hall and purchasing mats. Shree Shahu Vijayi Gangavesh Talim has got Rs 31.45 lakh for the renovation and Rs 26.86 lakh was granted for Jai Bhawani Talim (Shahupuri Talim). A budget of Rs 76 lakh was decided for the renovation of Jai Bhawani Talim at Banage in Kagal tehsil of Kolhapur district. The efforts of then guardian minister Hasan Mushrif and Deepak Kesarkar, state planning commission chairperson Rajesh Kshirsagar and then district collector Rahul Rekhawar were instrumental in sanctioning these funds for these talims.
