Sporting CP vs Celtic LIVE score and goal updates from pre season friendly in Portugal

The champions of Scotland and Portugal go head-to-head tonight as Celtic bring the curtain down on their pre-season tour in the Algarve. Brendan Rodgers' side have been grafting in the searing heat of Lisbon since Thursday, even taking time to visit the iconic Estadio Nacional - the site of the club's greatest ever triumph in 1967 - before heading south last night. Saturday's behind-closed-doors runout against Estrela da Amadora ended in a 3-2 defeat, but now Callum McGregor and Co. will step things up in front of a big crowd at the Estadio Algarve. New Bhoys Kieran Tierney, Benji Nygren and Hayato Inamura are set for more minutes as they continue to build match sharpness, while a number of academy prospects could also be handed another chance to impress. Meanwhile, Shin Yamada is poised to become Celtic's latest summer signing, with the Japanese striker saying his goodbyes to Kawasaki Frontale ahead of his move to Glasgow. Rodgers is likely to face fresh questions on transfer business after the game, having already made it clear that reinforcements are urgently needed before the Premiership curtain-raiser. Ryan McDonald Pre-season fixture schedule Celtic got their campaign off to a flyer last year with emphatic pre-season wins over Manchester City and Chelsea. There hasn't quite been the same pace and energy so far this summer, but at this stage, it's all about building fitness. The champions have four more games to go before next month's Premiership curtain-raiser at home to St Mirren. July 4 - Queen's Park 0-1 Celtic July 8 – Cork City 1-2 Celtic July 12 – Celtic 2-3 Estrela Da Amadora July 16 (KO: 7:30pm) – Sporting CP v Celtic July 19 (KO: 3pm) – Celtic v Newcastle United July 24 (KO: 7:30pm) – Celtic v Ajax July 26/27 (KO TBC) – Como or Al Ahli v Celtic Ryan McDonald Odds-on to return? Celtic have been alerted to the availability of former hero Odsonne Edouard. However, Brendan Rodgers would have to stump up serious cash to bring the Frenchman back to Parkhead. Edouard has been deemed surplus to requirements at Crystal Palace and has entered the final year of his contract. The Eagles are keen to offload the striker this summer and Edouard is now weighing up his options. It's believed the ex-PSG kid is picking up a weekly salary of £80,000 - and that's a huge hurdle for Celts. Ryan McDonald Need for speed Impatient Celtic fans have made their feelings clear on social media about the lack of transfer business in recent days. But the Hoops are edging closer to a £1.2million deal for Japan B international Shin Yamada. Kawasaki Frontale have confirmed the striker is set to join 'an overseas club,' with Yamada expected to team up with compatriots Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Hayato Inamura in Glasgow's east end. Will he be a direct replacement for Kyogo? That remains to be seen - but Brendan Rodgers will be grilled on the incoming signing after tonight's clash with Sporting Lisbon.

Japanese defender Hayato Inamura's move to Celtic appears to have moved a step closer to completion after Albirex Niigata confirmed that he is on the brink of a transfer to an overseas club. Inamura emerged as a transfer target for Celtic earlier this month and the 23-year-old, who can operate as either a centre-half or a left- back, is now set to join the Scottish champions. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The 23-year-old joined Albirex Niigata from Tokyo University just last year but has impressed with his performances for a side that is battling relegation in the J-League. He has made 16 appearances so far and despite being contracted until the summer of 2027, his club have resigned themselves to losing the player. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has already made three signings this summer. | SNS Group While not directly confirming that Inamura is going to Celtic, Albirex Niigata confirmed in a statement after a 4-0 home defeat by Machida Zelvia on Sunday that the player is now not part of the first-team preparations for their next match against Kyoto Sanga. An Albirex Niigata spokesperson wrote: 'We would like to inform you that Hayato Inamura (23), a member of our club, left the team on June 29th in order to complete the necessary procedures and preparations for a transfer to an overseas club. We will notify you of Inamura's future once an official decision has been made.' Should Inamura - as expected - complete his move to Celtic, he would become manager Brendan Rodgers' fourth signing of the current transfer window. Goalkeeper Ross Doohan, defender Kieran Tierney and winger Benjamin Nygren have all been signed ahead of the upcoming campaign, with more arrivals to follow. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Inamura would complete an overhaul of Celtic's left-back options. Scotland internationalist Tierney has returned on a free transfer after six years at Arsenal and will take over from Greg Taylor as the first-choice in that position. Taylor is expected to join Greek side PAOK after his Celtic contract expired, while Jeffrey Schlupp's loan from Crystal Palace concluded at the end of the season.

‘I've got to say he surprised me' – Brendan Rodgers namechecks Celtic star who changed his mind at Cork Super Cup

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) BRENDAN RODGERS has revealed new Japanese Bhoy Hayato Inamura has forced him into a U-turn over his Parkhead future. Celtic boss Rodgers landed left-sided defender Inamura in a shock swoop last week from J-league side Albirex Niigata and immediately stated he didn't see him being part of the first team scene. But, a polished 45-minute debut show in the Cork Super Cup victory over Cork City jolted the Hoops manager into a dramatic re-think. Now, Inamura looks set to be handed the chance to be cover for returning left-back Kieran Tierney who looks poised for a second Celtic bow in Saturday's latest warm-up game against Estrela da Amadora in Lisbon. Asked directly if Inamura's performance had made him reconsider, Rodgers confessed: '100-per-cent. I'm not fixed on it. 'The plan was to bring him in, see how he does pre-season, thinking that he may need to get out and play. 'But I always judge players on the pre-season, on how they look and are they going to be capable. 'He's certainly in the few days training, he's shown he's so smooth with the ball. Not only that, he plays forward. 'I've got to say, he surprised me. 'In these first days training, he's so competent with the ball. He's a good size. "His comfort on the ball, his willingness to attack is really good. So we'll see how he looks over the remaining games.' Ex-Celtic coach Eric Black on the Cup exit that rocked Scottish football plus life with Lubo and Dr Jo Goals from Luke McCowan and Colby Donovan sealed victory for Celtic at normal GAA venue SuperValu Pairc Ui Chaoimh. Now, Rodgers is excited about introducing the rest of his big guns to pre-season action after their late return to training following extended international duty. That will include near £2 million attacking capture Benjamin Nygren. He's poised for a debut on Saturday. On the win over Cork City and what's ahead, Rodgers said: 'The setting was splendid, wasn't it? It was absolutely brilliant. 'Obviously, emotionally it would have been lovely for Adam Idah to have played in his home city. But those international guys only came back Friday. 'Those international boys, that'll be their first action at the weekend. 'Nygen as well. I'm really excited by him, he's a forward thinking player, he's got good legs, gets about the pitch and he's showed up well since he's come in. 'Kieran was fantastic in my first time here. He's gone away and gained a lot of experience and maturity. 'We also want to manage him because he's had a lot of troubles in his fitness history over the last few years. It's great to have him back.' 4 Celtics' Colby Donovan (right) celebrates scoring the winner Credit: PA Irish frontman Johnny Kenny suffered a 'bad' shin injury in training but featured for 45 minutes against Cork City - and it's believed a new extended contract could be signed over the next week. Rodgers said: 'We would like to sign him to a new deal and then see what path it takes, whether he stays or whether he needs to go and get games.' Meanwhile, with a fitness update on rehab duo Cameron Carter-Vickers and Reo Hatate, the Celts boss added: 'Reo is fine. He's been training since he's come back and looked really good. 'Cam, we're thinking around about either just before or just after the Newcastle game he'll be ready to play.' Stephen Welsh was forced off against Cork City and Rodgers added: 'His shoulder's just popped out. That's the fourth time it's happened to him.' 4 Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
