Head Over Heels – K-drama Episode 10 Recap & Review
Epsiode 10 Episode 10 of Head Over Heels begins with Sung-ah's realisation that it's Bong-su in Gyeon-woo's body. Bong-su eventually tells Sung-ah's spirit mother how Yeom-hwa had helped him and how he'd manipulated Gyeon-woo into helping with the suicide ghost case. Sung-ah is devastated, but her spirit mother tells her to be kind to Bong-su and console his spirit and his need to be loved. This is also when they find that Yeom-hwa has left and is plotting something. Sung-ah decides to be kind towards Bong-su, so he takes advantage of it, happy that she's accepted him. From the next day onwards, Bong-su becomes a sensation at school, making a lot of friends and constantly being surrounded by people. However, seeing him, Sung-ah becomes sadder and misses Gyeon-woo even more. This continues until she remembers the hour of the ox, which she'd forgotten in the commotion, a time of the ghosts. And since Gyeon-woo is now a ghost, she wakes him up that night. Gyeon-woo tells her about seeing two teenage soldiers in his dream. She encourages him to befriend them, wanting to know more about Bong-su's past and a way they could help his soul cross over. Gyeon-woo tries to approach the soldiers but soon realises it's going to take a while, especially when they begin shooting at him. From the next day onwards, Bong-su is having a blast in his new life. He tries to do things Gyeon-woo had been good at, like archery, makes a lot of friends, and just wants to be able to live. This information soon reaches Yeom-hwa, who's been preparing for a ritual at the previously haunted house. She meets Bong-su and tells him how Sung-ah wants Gyeon-woo back, and to test her if he doesn't believe it. So that night, Bong-su uses an amulet that Yeom-hwa had stolen to suppress Gyeon-woo from coming back at the hour of the ox. So, when Sung-ah wakes him, it's not Gyeon-woo but Bong-su, and he ends up listening to Sung-ah wanting to help him crossover. He reveals himself, hurt over her true feelings surfacing. The next day, he shows Sung-ah and Ji-ho the place where his friend's memorial stone is. We find that his friend had asked Bong-su to give his ring to his mother when he was dying, but Bong-su had been killed before he could. This is why he became a ghost, with unresolved feelings. He buries the ring there, and they leave. From that point on, he stops cooperating with everyone, including Sung-ah. Watching Bong-su take control, Ji-ho approaches Yeom-hwa, asking her to help him get Gyeon-woo back since he'd seen her with Gyeon-woo before. Yeom-hwa asks him to get Bong-su's ring, which he does, only to realise she hadn't wanted to help him. Earlier, Yeom-hwa had tried to evoke the grim reaper, but Sung-ah's spirit mother had found out and stripped her of her shamanic powers. However, using the ring, Yeom-hwa begins a ritual to summon the grim reaper to take Bong-su, and with him, Gyeon-woo to the underworld. Sung-ah and her family begin their emergency operations and contain Bong-su in her room while Sung-ah is to perform a fake ritual at the burial site where the ring had been, to confuse the grim reaper. Just when everything had been going as planned, Bong-su, overcome with anger and alone in the room, counter-curses Yeom-hwa using Sung-ah's book of spells that he'd once read. Yeom-hwa feels the curse and the grim reaper approaching but surprisingly, nothing happens. This is when she realises that the handkerchief Sung-ah's spirit mother had sent her was a human amulet, for her. The episode ends with the grim reaper taking Sung-ah's spirit mother's soul, as she dies with everybody, including Yeom-hwa, weeping over the scene. The Episode Review With Episode 10, it's quite clear that Head Over Heels' script is nothing but a moth-eaten piece of paper. The plot is a chaotic mess, more than you'd make making a salsa dip for the first time, and at least that's worth something. The story is all over the place, with such glaring loopholes that we can't help but feel the sheer insincerity with which the script has been written. Take for instance the fact that human amulets are supposed to work only when the one being protected has faith, affection, or a good relationship with the protector. Just like how Sung-ah's amulet was useless when her relationship with Gyeon-woo turned sour. But in Yeom-hwa's case, the human amulet works even when her relationship with her spirit mother is bitter? In an attempt to portray an emotional episode before the conclusion of the series next week, the show has forgotten its own rules. As of now, with so many glaring issues with this K-drama, it's quite a disappointing watch. Previous Episode Next Episode Expect A Full Season Write-Up When This Season Concludes!
