Razole (Konaseema District): Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr Chandrasekhar Pemmasani inaugurated the newly built Head Post Office at Razole in Konaseema district on Thursday. Minister for Social Welfare Dola Veeranjaneya Swamy, Razole MLA Deva Varaprasad, and MLC Perabathula Rajasekharam also took part in the programme. Speaking at the event, Pemmasani explained the transformation of post offices from mere mail centres into modern service hubs offering savings and payments banking, parcel delivery, and other digital services. Dr Chandrasekhar said that Andhra Pradesh has achieved a remarkable 14% growth in postal services, double the national average of 7%. He lauded the state's performance, attributing it to the adoption of modern technologies and efficient service delivery. He informed that post offices are now delivering parcels within 24 to 48 hours and have introduced mobile ATMs operated by postal staff to enhance last-mile connectivity. 'Today, every village can access a range of essential services through the local post office,' he said, emphasising the increasing importance of postal services in everyday life. The minister also appreciated the postal department's role in distributing Rs 1,500 crore to beneficiaries under the 'Talliki Vandanam' scheme launched by the Andhra Pradesh government. He further stated that the central government has invested Rs 5,000 crore in upgrading the postal IT infrastructure nationwide, equipping every post office with advanced technology. Services such as parcel tracking and SMS updates are now integrated, enabling prompt delivery and transparency. Amalapuram MP Ganti Harish Madhur submitted various local issues to the minister. The minister assured him that he would take steps to resolve the issues. Dr Chandrasekhar thanked the people of Konaseema for their warm hospitality and praised their patience and sincerity.

1 2 Dibrugarh: Sivasagar police on Friday arrested a suspect and identified three others in a case where Rs 10 lakh was looted from a postal department employee in broad daylight. One of the identified suspects is a postal employee, who allegedly provided crucial information to the perpetrators. The incident occurred on Thursday around 11.45 am, when two assailants on a motorcycle attacked Bipul Dutta at Raichai in Demow, while he was transporting cash from the Head Post Office in Sivasagar to Nitaipukhuri sub-post office. The robbers snatched the money and assaulted Dutta, breaking his teeth. Addressing the media, Sivasagar additional SP (Crime) Moidul Islam said, "The police have cracked the snatching case of Rs 10 lakh from a postal department employee in Sivasagar within 24 hours," Islam said. The swift police response involved a comprehensive investigation that relied heavily on CCTV footage analysis. Through meticulous examination of surveillance cameras, investigators were able to identify and arrest one Tultul Duwari. Duwari's confession proved instrumental in unravelling the entire conspiracy. Saikia is accused of providing critical information about the cash transfer to the criminal gang. According to the investigation, the robbery was carefully orchestrated. Biki and Mintu, riding a motorcycle, followed Bipul before launching their attack. CCTV footage revealed that the two perpetrators were seen communicating with the other accused before executing the crime.

Hubballi: As part of International Yoga Day on June 21, a week-long series of yoga activities was launched in the district. Under the theme of 'Yoga for One Earth One Health', the AYUSH department launched five programmes — Yoga Sangam, Yoga Meditation, Yoga Dhanush, Green Yoga and Yoga Unplugged — in the district. The ministry of AYUSH launched the 'Y-Break' app, which provides guided yoga routines to help individuals de-stress and refocus during their workday. A 5-minute yoga practice began at govt offices such as Head Post Office, Ayurvedic College and Homeopathic College in Hubballi. These routines include simple asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing exercises) and dhyana (meditation). District AYUSH officer Ganesh Kabade told TOI that the department is organising competitions, activities and educational campaigns to increase enthusiasm for yoga among the younger generation. These include yoga reels competition, yoga poster competition, yoga quiz competition and yoga essay competition. Dr Shashidhar Talakal, medical officer at AYUSH department, said the Green Yoga programme has been planned to be organised with the forest department. A plantation drive and yoga practice will be organised at the forest department office in Dharwad. Ashok Akkeri, assistant administrative officer, said the department has 18 yoga instructors to organise camps and yoga practice. Regular yoga is carried out at Ayushman health centres at Tegur, Shirur and Nigadi Village. The event at Kelgeri Lake is getting a good response as many are participating in yoga. Bhimappa Laddi, yoga instructor at the AYUSH department, said yoga brings the body and mind together and is built on three elements: movement, breathing, and meditation. Everyone should practice yoga, he said.

CM inaugurates govt model school in Trichy

Trichy: Chief minister M K Stalin on Thursday inaugurated a newly constructed model school in Thiruverumbur, set up exclusively to train govt school students crack national-level entrance exams such as JEE and secure admission to premier higher educational chief minister arrived at Trichy airport around 12pm and reached the school accompanied by ministers K N Nehru, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, S S Sivasankar, S Regupathy, and Siva V Meyyanathan among others. Developed on 7.9 acres within the campus of Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) near Thuvakudi Anna Valaivu, the school is equipped with science and computer laboratories, a multipurpose hall, a library, and disabled-friendly toilets. Additionally, five-storey hostel buildings for boys and girls have been built at a cost of ₹18.57 crore each, with a capacity to accommodate around 440 students each. Stalin interacted with the students and wished them success. "We are also preparing for exams like NEET, CUET, CLAT, and NIFT. Weekly online and mock tests are conducted regularly, which is really helpful," said K Kamala Priya, a student of the school. Stalin later posted on X, saying, "The model schools have grabbed Delhi's attention. The initiative has helped 977 students from these schools pursue higher education in premier Indian and international institutions. We will continue to strive to increase the numbers," he said. Following the inauguration, the chief minister chaired a review meeting with district in the evening, he held a roadshow from TVS Tollgate, which passed through Head Post Office, MGMGH, Puthur Signal, and Thillai Nagar. During the event, he received grievances directly from the public. As part of the roadshow, Stalin inaugurated a statue of legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan at Puthur in the presence of Prabhu, the thespian's son. "We have fond memories of Trichy. Our family has had a close connection with the city since my father's time," said Prabhu. Stalin then chaired a meeting with DMK members to discuss assembly election preparedness.
