MSF interventions in supporting Dhamar's health sector discussed
Dhamar - Saba: A meeting in Dhamar province, chaired by Governor Mohammed Al-Bukhaity, discussed on Wednesday the interventions of the Swiss organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in supporting the health sector to combat the measles outbreak. The meeting, attended by the head of MSF's mission in Yemen and delegation members, saw Governor Al-Bukhaity praising MSF's humanitarian response and its active role in supporting the health sector through targeted interventions aimed at alleviating suffering. He highlighted MSF's support for the isolation center at Al-Wahda Teaching University Hospital in Ma'bar city, as well as its efforts in operating mobile clinics across six districts to provide measles treatment, vaccination, and malnutrition care. Governor Al-Bukhaity noted the health sector's efforts in combating the spread of acute watery diarrhea and measles despite limited resources, stressing the importance of enhanced coordination to address challenges within available means. Meanwhile, the head of MSF's mission in Yemen explained that MSF is working to mitigate the suffering caused by the measles outbreak. She pointed to the support provided to the isolation center at Al-Wahda Hospital and mobile clinics in the districts of Al-Hada, Juhran, Dhuran, Jabal Al-Sharq, Ans, and Mayfa'at Ans, delivering treatment, vaccination, and malnutrition services. She affirmed MSF's commitment to expanding future interventions based on available resources to further support the health sector's efforts. For his part, Dr. Tariq Al-Khiwani, Director of the Health Office, outlined the challenges facing the health sector due to the spread of measles and acute watery diarrhea in several districts. He highlighted ongoing efforts to raise health awareness and educate communities on preventive measures. He expressed hope for continued MSF support for mobile clinics, disease control efforts, and the provision of essential medicines and medical supplies. Dr. Abdul Salam Al-Maqdad, Director of Al-Wahda Teaching University Hospital, reviewed the hospital's efforts in receiving measles cases from across the province and neighboring governorates. He noted that the hospital admits new measles and acute watery diarrhea cases daily, stressing the need for sustained medical services, isolation center support, and urgent supplies of medicines, IV fluids, and hygiene materials. At the meeting's conclusion, Governor Al-Bukhaity honored MSF and its mission head in recognition of their humanitarian efforts in supporting the health sector and combating disease outbreaks. Following the meeting, the Health Office Director and MSF's delegation visited the isolation center at Al-Wahda Hospital in Ma'bar. They received a briefing from the hospital director on the center's activities, medical care for measles patients, and operational challenges due to limited resources and rising caseloads, including acute watery diarrhea cases. Health Office to take blood samples from residents following detection of malaria case at Sibu Jaya's Townvilla B
Photo for illustration purposes only. — AFP photo SIBU (June 24): The Sibu Divisional Health Office will conduct Active Case Detection (ACD) for malaria in the Townvilla B area of Sibu Jaya on June 25-26. A Health Office statement said this is necessary to detect the presence of malaria parasites following a case of malaria fever in the area on June 13. The ACD will be carried out from 5pm to 8pm on both days. 'This ACD involves blood sample collection through the Blood Film for Malaria Parasite method and is a mandatory activity that will continue until completion,' explained the statement. During the implementation period, residents in the affected area are requested to fully cooperate with the health team by allowing members to enter as well as providing identification documents such as identity cards, birth certificates, or passports. They must also allow their blood samples to be taken and priority will be given to individuals experiencing fever or chills. 'Cooperation from all parties is greatly appreciated in preventing the spread of malaria infection in this area,' added the statement. Governor Al-Bukaiti launches field visits to assess job discipline in public service units
Dhamar - Saba: Dhamar Governor Mohammed Al-Bukaiti launched on Sunday field visits to inspect and evaluate the level of job discipline and adherence to official working hours in public service units, on the first official workday following the Eid al-Adha holiday. During his inspection of the compliance level at the Health Office, accompanied by Deputy Governors Mohammed Abdulrazzaq and Mahmoud Al-Jabin, Governor Al-Bukaiti stressed the importance of adhering to official working hours and enhancing performance across all public service units in the province to ensure the delivery of public services and efficient handling of citizens' transactions. He commended the efforts of executive offices that assigned emergency teams to work during the Eid holiday, particularly health facilities and some service institutions that upheld their responsibilities in serving the community. Governor Al-Bukaiti emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of job discipline to ensure optimal performance in public service units, especially given the current challenges facing the nation. Meanwhile, Deputy Governors Mahmoud Al-Jabin and Mohammed Abdulrazzaq inspected job discipline at the offices of the General Authority for Land, Economy, Industry, and Investment; Dhamar Customs and Control; the Local Corporation for Water and Sanitation; the Tax Authority branch; the Qat and Real Estate Tax units; and the Yemen Oil Company. During their visits, the deputy governors praised the high level of discipline in these offices, noting the employees' dedication and sense of responsibility in delivering services and processing citizens' transactions efficiently. In a related context, Civil Service Sector Director Issam Al-Amisi stated that the field inspection teams affiliated with the sector aim to monitor and evaluate job discipline and compliance with official working hours in public service units and ministry branches across the province. He noted that the job discipline rate on the first official workday after Eid al-Adha reached 95% in various public service units in Dhamar. The ministry, in a statement today, said that to date, 65.16 per cent of senior citizens with comorbidities have received the influenza vaccine through the programme that began last Feb 18. It said there are still 56,237 vaccination appointment slots available through the programme. 'The public can get the influenza vaccine at government health facilities until the end of August 2025. Eligible senior citizens are advised to immediately make an appointment before the slots close,' read the statement. According to the ministry, the service is provided at 649 selected Health Clinics (KK) in the country, and the vaccine is provided free of charge. Appointments can be made via the MySejahtera application. Advertisement 'The public can also contact the nearest District Health Office, browse the official portal or MOH's social media, or personally go to the KK to obtain more information,' according to the ministry. For senior citizens who do not have access to MySejahtera, they can physically go to the listed KK to register and get vaccinated, subject to available slots. The ministry encourages senior citizens who attend follow-up treatment of chronic diseases at the relevant KK to take the initiative to obtain information and inquire about eligibility to receive the free influenza vaccine, if it has not been offered. It calls on senior citizens who have at least one comorbid or chronic disease, such as diabetes, heart disease, chronic respiratory disease or high blood pressure, to take this opportunity to obtain appropriate protection ahead of the infection season. Taking this vaccination is important to prevent serious complications and reduce the rate of hospitalisation due to influenza infection among high-risk groups, it said.
