Buccaneers' Offensive Tackle Charlie Heck is Ready to Save the Season
Buccaneers' Offensive Tackle Charlie Heck is Ready to Save the Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Back on March 13, former Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Charlie Heck very quietly signed a one-year, $1.57 million deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, expecting to ride the bench and chip in occasionally when needed. Advertisement With the recent news of Tristan Wirf's knee surgery, that's all changed. Heck, for all practical purposes, is now the starting right tackle until Wirfs returns. And that could be Week 4 of the regular season if all goes well. Heck has been thrust into the spotlight in Tampa Bay. No one can replace Tristan Wirfs, but Heck will be tasked with protecting quarterback Baker Mayfield until Wirfs can return to take over the role that he's been so masterful at since the Bucs drafted him. 'I'm really excited to be here,' Heck said, per Pewter Report, when he joined the Bucs. 'I've done a workout here before and I'm glad that it came around full circle like this and now I'm back here. I'm excited to be a part of this team.' Advertisement Heck didn't know he'd see the spotlight so soon in Tampa Bay, but signed here because he sees the team as a Super Bowl contender. 'They're right there,' Heck said. 'I'm excited to get here, learn the offense and just be here. They've got all of the talent in the world on this offense, so I'm excited.' Heck's father, Andy, has been the offensive line coach of the Kansas City Chiefs since 2013 and has won three Super Bowls as a coach after an 11-year playing career with the Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears and Washington Redskins, so Heck has been around excellence and knows good coaching. Heck said he was impressed with the Bucs coaching staff, and that also influenced his signing here. Advertisement 'I mean, just keeping up with different O-lines during my career, this is one that I've always kind of kept my eyes on,' Heck added. 'It's been a group that I would be excited to be a part of, so I'm happy to be here. They've done a great job.' 67 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No.67?
The Houston Texans are less than 100 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast. Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has won No. 67 since the inaugural season in 2002. Texans players to wear No. 67 No. 67 currently belongs to no one. That doesn't mean someone won't wear it this year, but it would likely come after roster cutdowns with a new addition off waivers. Best Player: No One Be real. There are three players listed over a franchise-long tenure and none are memorable. White and Heck were backups during their time in Houston while Brown was a member of the worst starting offensive line in league history. Literally anyone could put on the No. 67 and so as they look the part of G.O.A.T. The next person to start for the Texans' ofensive line might end up being the best fit.

Florian Wirtz's true colours made clear as boss claims 'he didn't speak to me'
Liverpool appear to be landing a fierce competitor, judging by comments made from one of Florian Wirtz's ex-coaches as they close in on a club-record deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz is expected to seal a club-record move from Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool this week. And the Reds appear to be securing a player whose determination to win has been apparent since a very young age. It was confirmed last Friday that Liverpool had reached an agreement with the Bundesliga side for the player, after they fended off competition from Bayern Munich and Manchester City to land the German international. One of Wirtz's former coaches has now revealed what Arne Slot can expect from Wirtz, detailing the young star's ferocious desire once he steps out onto the pitch. Martin Heck, who coached Wirtz in the youth set-up at Koln in Germany, has highlighted an instance when the youngster refused to speak to him for a week after Heck attempted to manage the midfielder's minutes following an injury. 'It was clear that he [Wirtz] would only play 50 minutes and I told him weeks before: 'Flo, your first game back will be in Bochum, but you will only play 50 minutes'," Heck told The Athletic. "He says, 'OK, coach, I'm fine with it. I just want to be back playing.' 'But I knew what would happen once he got back on the pitch. So, the Monday before the game, I talked to him and said: 'Flo, remember — 50 minutes!' 'Yes, no problem, no problem.' Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, I said the same thing. 'So, the game starts and after half-time, everyone knew that Flo would be substituted. But when I called his name, it was like he hated me. He was swearing on the pitch. He was kicking the grass. He was waving his hands. He didn't talk to me for five days! 'I was just laughing because we won the game. His team-mates were laughing, too, because they knew that it would happen. But this is Florian Wirtz the footballer. I'm convinced that this is the thing that's special compared to other players.' There is a confidence behind the scenes at Liverpool that the acquisition of the attacking midfielder can take the Premier League champions to the next level. His pending transfer is hoped by club officials to be as impactful as when Liverpool landed Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker in 2018. According to Heck, the Reds' hierarchy may well be on the money with their prediction, with the 42-year-old first feeling the buzz around Wirtz when he was just a 10-year-old. 'He was that outstandingly good that you had to pay attention. So, I knew him five or six years before he came to me," Heck added. 'When he was 15, he already played like a professional in the Bundesliga. It was not only his skills and his technique, but the game he played in his mind. He played football like it was chess and he did things you normally don't see in youth players. He would think about what comes in the second or third phase, after passing the ball. It was amazing." He continued: 'But when anyone asks me, 'What's special about Florian Wirtz?', I say that he has the greatest ambition I've ever seen in football from a player, young or old. "His will to win. You could see that when he was 10 years old, when he was with me at 16 years old and nowadays, too. He can't stand losing, and that's something he has had from the very beginning.' With personal terms not expected to be an issue, and following a routine medical this week, Wirtz is set to become Liverpool's most expensive player ever, with the club paying £100 million up front, and £16m in add-ons, for the 22-year-old's services.

Space rock from asteroid Bennu arrives at Chicago Field Museum for rare study
The Brief The Field Museum received a rare, pristine sample of asteroid Bennu from NASA — a "time capsule" from the early solar system, untouched for 4.6 billion years. Scientists will study the carbon- and nitrogen-rich rock for clues about the origins of life on Earth. Bennu is considered a potentially hazardous asteroid, with a small chance of striking Earth in 2182, but researchers say it's too fragile to cause global destruction. CHICAGO - A new arrival has landed at Chicago's Field Museum — and it came from 40 million miles away. What we know The Field is one of the few research institutions in the country to receive a piece of an asteroid recently returned to Earth by NASA. "Oh, this is super exciting," said Field Museum Curator of Meteoritics Philipp Heck, as he peered at a vial containing a tiny black pebble. Museum scientists said receiving the sample is like winning the space lottery. Just days ago, they took delivery of the tiny chunk of asteroid Bennu. "It's a time capsule from the early solar system," said Heck. "That means it hasn't changed since it formed 4.6 billion years ago." In 2020, a NASA spacecraft intercepted the ancient asteroid — about a third of a mile in diameter — and punched out tiny shards of rock. That material was later returned to Earth in a sealed capsule, which preserved its scientific value. Unlike meteorites that burn through Earth's atmosphere and are contaminated with microbes, this asteroid sample is pristine. "The asteroid sample contains organic chemicals. And also it's rich in carbon and nitrogen," said Field Museum Resident Graduate Student Yuke Zheng. "So these elements and compounds, they are very essential to the beginning of life." Over the next few weeks, researchers will use advanced equipment to identify those building blocks, which may have been ingredients in the origin of life on Earth. "Bennu is essentially a piece of the pantry that contains the ingredients that went into the soup from which later the planet and life formed," explained Heck. There's another reason scientists are keeping a close watch on Bennu. It's classified as a potentially hazardous object, with a 1-in-1,750 chance of striking Earth on Sept. 24, 2182. The good news, according to Heck, is that the rock isn't very strong. "This is very fragile. It's mechanically weak rock. So I think even if that rock would collide with Earth, it wouldn't be a global killer." What's next The Field Museum will return its piece of the asteroid to NASA in August. Because of its tiny size and rarity, the sliver will not be displayed to the public.

Man accused of causing crash that killed teen while running from several police agencies
An 18-year-old man accused of causing a crash that killed a 15-year-old boy while running from police is now facing charges. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck said Dominick Parlett, 18, of New Lebanon, was indicted on the following charges on Wednesday: One count of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide One count of Involuntary Manslaughter Three counts of Failure to Comply One count of Receiving Stolen Property – motor vehicle Two counts of Vehicular Assault The crash occurred at the intersection of Little Richmond Road and North Snyder Road on Nov. 19, 2024, after multiple police chases. Moraine police initially spotted a Ford Escape that had been stolen from Fairborn earlier that day. Less than 10 minutes later, Miamisburg police spotted the same SUV and tried to stop it. However, the car took off again, and officers stopped the pursuit due to high speeds. Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies spotted the SUV a short time later in Jefferson Township and tried to pull it over. Parlett drove away from deputies and got it into the City of Trotwood before crashing. Parlett allegedly ran away from the scene of the crash, but was eventually arrested after a short chase. 15-year-old Jaden McClaskey was inside the SUV during the pursuits and crash. He was critically injured and died from his injuries two days later, according to Heck. Another juvenile inside the car was injured but survived. Days before the crash, Parlett was arrested for receiving stolen property after crashing a different stolen car, according to Heck. Montgomery County Jail records show that Parlett was booked into jail around 5 p.m. on Wednesday. 'Once again we see the tragic consequences that can happen when defendants flee from traffic stops. Pursuits are dangerous, not only to other drivers, but also the law enforcement officers and even to those fleeing. We need to put an end to this reckless behavior and there should be significant consequences for those who flee and fail to comply,' Heck said. [SIGN UP: WHIO-TV Daily Headlines Newsletter]
