Where Lightning's Victor Hedman Finished In Norris Trophy Voting
The final voting results for the Norris Trophy were released on June 11, and without much surprise, Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar won the award. The 26-year-old had an incredible season with the Avs, scoring a career-high 30 goals and recording 90 points in 80 games. The voting results also revealed that Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman finished fifth for the award. The Lightning captain received one second-place vote, 11 third-place votes, 55 fourth-place votes, and 38 fifth-place votes. He did not, however, receive one first-place vote for the award. Hedman finishing fifth in the Norris Trophy voting is certainly fair, as he had a strong 2024-25 campaign. In 79 games this season for the Bolts, the 6-foot-7 blueliner recorded 15 goals, 66 points, and a plus-18 rating. Advertisement Hedman previously won the Norris Trophy for the 2017-18 season, when he posted 17 goals, 63 points, and a plus-32 rating in 77 games for the Lightning. Makeovers planned for these three Ohio State residence halls
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Three Ohio State University residence hall towers will look a little different in the coming years. Ohio State's Board of Trustees met Wednesday and approved dozens of changes, including renovations to the North Towers. Drackett, Jones and Taylor Towers will undergo a $10 million upgrade, including more dorm space for residents. The construction and design will be phased out over several years, with designs beginning this month and final construction ending in August 2030. What are the cannabis products that Ohioans buy the most? According to the project plan presented to the trustees, the main entry levels in all three towers will be renovated and reconfigured. The other floors will also received updated finishes to better align with other nearby campus facilities. According to project plans, the North Towers renovation will replace the buildings' plumbing, heating and sanitary lines. Drackett, Jones and Taylor towers will also receive new sprinkler systems and upgrades to its main electrical system. Only one of the towers' infrastructure has made headlines. In 2017, Ohio State said it shut down nearly every water fountain in Drackett Tower after a student contracted Legionella pneumonia. However, Ohio State's investigation, completed with the CDC and Ohio Department of Health, found it was unlikely the student contracted the disease from the residence hall. Ohio State is planning several rounds of renovations across campus, including these plans. The tower upgrades fall under the Core North updates, the district bordered by Lane Avenue, High Street, the Olentangy River and the north side of the Oval. Although the Board of Trustee documents have minimal information at this time, the Core North updates intend to de-densify student rooms in residential halls. Ohio State said renovations will increase the average square footage per bed. According to the Core North plan, Arps, Bricker, Cockins, Hitchcock, Hughes, Jones, Mendoza and Ramseyer halls may also see renovations in the near future. Ohio museum featuring haunted, true crime items to open According to the project plans, designs will be completed between this month and May 2027, although the Board of Trustees will approve construction plans in February 2026. Construction will begin in November 2026 and conclude in August 2030. Ohio State spokesperson Dan Hedman said the next phases of the project is to create the phasing plan, so the timeline is still flexible. 'We can share that this will be a multiyear project, and it is possible that one or more of the buildings may need to be taken fully offline for the updates,' Hedman said. 'At the same time, as we always do, we will work to minimize impacts to the overall student experience.' The Board of Trustees approved more than 40 items in total, including scoreboard updates for the Schottenstein Center, parking lot updates at Outpatient East and nearly $16 million in new or updated scholarships and endowed funds. Tampa Bay Lightning Hold Heads High Following Season Of ‘110 Percent Buy-In'
SUNRISE, FL - Victor Hedman congratulates goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Tampa Bay Lightning ... More after the 5-1 win against the Florida Panthers after Game Three of the First Round of the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs at the Amerant Bank Arena on April 26, 2025 in Sunrise, Florida. (Photo by) Victor Hedman had the captain's 'C' sown on his jersey prior to the preseason. Not that serving as a leader, visually or otherwise, was anything new. After all, the towering Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman had been a pillar in the room for the first 15 years of a career that will see the two-time Stanley Cup winner enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Though Hedman's first season as captain, a role he took on after Steven Stamkos left the club via free agency, concluded with an opening-round playoff defeat to the Florida Panthers for the second straight spring, Tampa Bay was unwavering in its commitment to the lightning bolt on the front of each player's jersey. The examples established by No. 77 were a large reason why. 'This group picked each other up all of the time, and Victor was a big part of that, especially in his first year as captain and taking over for an icon here,' said coach Jon Cooper, during an end-of-season media session at Amalie Arena on May 2. 'His leadership and Ryan (McDonagh), (Nikita) Kucherov and (Brandon) Hagel, you go down the line of guys that were inclusive as a team. There weren't cliques or any of stuff that went on that I have seen in years past. That was not this group. That is why we had the season we did, and I cannot say enough great things about the guys.' Hedman, in a boot after breaking his right foot in Game 4, noted how the team's level of commitment was never in question even after a busy off-season. 'A lot happened last summer and we knew it was going to be a collective effort to replace Stammer and his voice,' said Hedman, who also captained Team Sweden in the 4 Nations Face-Off. 'I think the guys did a phenomenal job all year. The buy-in was 110 percent, which made the job easier for me. Guys stepping it up and being more of a leader themselves." Which is why the sting from this year's early exit was particularly harsh. 'Everybody dialed in, bought in to the system and tried hard,' said Nikita Kucherov, both a Hart Trophy finalist – winner will be announced June 27 – and the league's leading scorer (121 points) for a second straight season. 'We did everything we could and we just came up short. We want to make sure we come back stronger, more experienced and eliminate the mistakes we made this year, learn from that and move forward.' One of the guys who will make sure that happens, given he is re-signed, is Ryan McDonagh. The defenseman, reacquired last summer in a trade with Nashville, won the Cup twice during a previous four-plus season Tampa tenure. He returned to a team that retained a set of core values and a winning culture in the room even as a handful nameplates changed out. 'For our group, we had the buy-in mentality and great attitude of showing up, coming to work every day, accepting your role and doing whatever you can to help the team win,' said McDonagh, the Lightning's Masterton nominee. 'It is up to us as leaders to keep that same culture, that same mentality because that gives you a chance every year.' Such an unwavering culture, such an unwavering attitude is a way of life at 401 Channelside Drive in downtown Tampa. As such, it is clear what is expected of free agents, those acquired in trades and rookies hoping to break through. 'That makes it easier when new guys come to the team,' said McDonagh. 'They feel part of the group. They feel valued. There are no egos in this group. We care about winning and it hurts a ton when we lose.' Whether it is chasing individual statistics or whatever it is that may not be in the best interests of the collective, egos can get in the way and a season can go sideways at any point. Not the 2024-25 Tampa Lightning. Far from it. 'Those can be distractions,' said Cooper, of chasing awards and milestones. 'But for this group, it was all about the team. They looked after themselves, and that's what was great about the group.'

Lightning beat Islanders 4-1
Mar 29, 2025; Tampa, Florida, USA; Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman (77) passes the puck against the New York Islanders during the second period at Amalie Arena. Credit: Kim Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images The Lightning started their four-game roadtrip off with a 4-1 win over the New York Islanders on Tuesday. Oliver Bjorkstrand opened the scoring on a redirection from Darren Raddysh, giving him his 20th goal of the season. Tampa Bay now has seven players with 20 plus goals. Just two minutes later, Bo Horvat evened the scoring for the Islanders with a shorthanded goal on the rush. The Lightning have allowed 12 shorthanded goals this season. Advertisement Eight minutes into the second period, Jake Guentzel scored after being left alone in front of the net. Nikita Kucherov snuck in a highlight-worthy quick pass to set up the go-ahead goal. Lightning captain Victor Hedman made it 3-1 almost three minutes later. Kucherov's assist on Hedman's goal brought him back into the top spot as the NHL points leader. 'I liked the way we competed. What I probably liked the most was the third period, we didn't give up anything and spent a lot of time in their end,' said Hedman. 'Down the stretch in the playoffs, that's the kind of game we want to play. When you go up 3-1, you've got to be able to shut it down.' 'Defensively it's been really good. You give up two goals in three games and scoring at the pace that we do, it's the recipe for success. For us, we have a high standard and I think, in most of these games, we have played to that standard' Advertisement Nick Paul scored the empty net goal with a little over three minutes left in the third. 'We worked really hard and started in the defensive zone. That's a big thing right now, is working in the D-zone to create offense,' said Paul. Andrei Vasilevskiy earned his 36th win of the regular season, behind Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets. The Lightning will face their Atlantic Division matchup in Ottawa on Thursday.

They are playing the Florida Panthers in Game 1 of the first round at 8:30 p.m. ET at AMALIE Arena in Tampa. Tonight, these two teams face off for the fourth time in five years in the playoffs. Both teams want to go on, and thus, this is going to be an interesting and close-knit series for fans to anticipate. Tampa Bay Lightning against the Panthers in the opening playoff The Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay, these two teams have been dynasties for two years, and this has created some extremely intense playoff series. The Panthers swept the Lightning in last year's first round in five games, while the Lightning won the series each of the last two seasons. Such seesaw history only fed the rivalry between the two teams, with their playoff meetings now becoming all the more thrilling. With the two sides mere hours apart by road distance, their competition is also heightened by geographic proximity and ardent fan bases. Both sides are eager to preserve their playoff chances, and so the stakes are high. The contest this season will again be a struggle for supremacy, as both sides long for victory. Tampa Bay turns to Hedman and Kucherov for opening round edge As the playoffs begin, the Lightning are entering the series with a strong team and high expectations. Tampa Bay is renowned for recent playoff victories and looks to keep going in the same fashion. Captain Victor Hedman was quoted as saying that he was ready to play in Game 1. The team has taken full advantage of the extra practice days to sharpen their game plan and improve their performance. The Lightning also has one of the league's top creators in Nikita Kucherov. Nikita Kucherov , the point leader of the regular season, will be a great force in the playoffs. His offense-based goal-scorer ability and playmaker ability for the team to succeed are instrumental pieces of Tampa Bay's playoff plan. Aside from their league-leading proven players, the Lightning will also bank on some new faces this season. Four of them, Gage Goncalves, Conor Geekie, Zemgus Girgensons, and JJ Moser, are making their Stanley Cup Playoffs debut. They bring depth and spice to the team, and that can be invaluable in these high-pressure games.
