Results From the World's First Observational Study of ExoStat Medical's MicroTREND System Support POMCO2 as an Important Early Indicator of Septic Shock in Critically Ill Patients

PRIOR LAKE, Minn., June 24, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ExoStat Medical, Inc. a medical device company engaged in the research and development of the novel MicroTREND System which non-invasively monitors microcirculatory tissue perfusion in real-time at the bedside announced today the successful completion of the world's first IRB-approved, ICU observational septic shock study to assess the efficacy and clinical utility of oral mucosal partial pressure CO2 (PomCO2) as a parameter for determining the status of microcirculatory tissue perfusion. The findings of this study concluded that data produced by the MicroTREND could, as an adjunct tool, enhance the value of data currently gathered by macrohemodynamic tools currently considered standard protocol. Conducted at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University (Hefei, China) the study enrolled 23 septic shock patients and assessed the role of bedside oral mucosa tissue monitoring PomCO2 as an indicator of early septic shock dysfunction. The study completed a comparative analysis of current standards of care including serum lactate, now considered the gold standard for tissue perfusion evaluation. Principal Investigators of the study are currently preparing the results for near-future publication. "This first-ever study marks a major milestone for critical care, for ExoStat, and for me as it has been a 40-year project that started with the Weil Institute in the 1980's," said Wanchun Tang, MD, MCCM, FAHA, FNAI, and Senior Technology and Medical Advisor for ExoStat. "For the first time ever, physicians were able to view, in real time, the very early and ongoing signs of microcirculatory dysfunction due to tissue hypoperfusion. Every moment matters in septic shock and delays can be devastating to the patient. This device can produce actuals that can provide the physician with more reaction time. It is now well-understood that the current macrohemodynamic tools do not fully capture real-time metrics of the patient under care. This study finally brought what was hypothesis into reality. It was exciting to observe." Dr. Tang later admitted that it was difficult to see the first measures on the monitor due to tears of joy. The MicroTREND is a patented, FDA-cleared non-invasive monitoring system that detects PomCO2 using a microsensor that sits atop the inner cheek buccal tissue. There are no needles, no blood, no catheters, and no "lag in time" for lab work required. The importance of time cannot be overstated in treating all shock states, especially sepsis. All shock cases begin with tissue hypoperfusion. It is a common denominator. "This study achieved the ultimate objective of ExoStat's mission which was to provide microcirculatory perfusion awareness to physicians who treat the sickest of the sick", stated Jim Hays, Chief Executive Officer of ExoStat. "We are excited to embark now on our second phase of pre-market clinical testing being planned with iconic research institutions where we will focus on achieving a better understanding of the effect of current standards of care on microcirculation. These are exciting times indeed." About ExoStat Medical ExoStat Medical Inc. is a privately-held medical device company located in Prior Lake, MN. The research and development quest to create the MicroTREND began in 2008 as a vision of Max Harry Weil, MD, who is often called "the father of critical care medicine". The technology platform developed by ExoStat provides data to enable physicians to assess and to treat microcirculatory hypoperfusion, a life-threatening medical emergency. Maextro's S800 'super' luxury sedan goes into production

The Maextro S800, the first model to be jointly developed by the Chinese state-owned automaker Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC) and Huawei Technologies Company under their luxury Maextro brand, has gone into mass production at the Maextro 'Super Factory' in Feixi County, in the Chinese city of Hefei. The flagship S800 luxury sedan, designed to compete with models such as the Mercedes-Benz Maybach, was officially launched at the end of May. The company claims to have received over 5,000 confirmed orders since the launch, with the model available as a battery electric vehicle (BEV) and as an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV). The S800 is produced at a factory which is claimed to have with more than 1,800 intelligent robots, with full automation and digitalization across stamping, welding, painting, and final assembly processes. It is available in four variants, the Starwave Premium, Starlight Premium, Starwave Executive, and Starlight Executive, with prices ranging between CNY 708,000 and CNY 1.018 million (US$ 985,000 and US$ 142,000). The S800 comes with intelligent electric doors equipped with millimeter-wave radar and solid-state LiDAR sensors, and features Huawei's ADS 4.0 advanced driver-assistance system, which runs on the newly-developed WEWA architecture for quicker response and smoother lane changes. Power comes from Huawei's DriveOne 800V high-voltage silicon carbide electric motors, with the dual-motor option delivering a peak output of 390 kW and the three-motor models up to 635 kW. The EREV models have a range of 1,333 km, while BEV variants can travel up to 702 km on a single charge. Maextro plans to launch the smaller S600 model in the near future. By the end of the year, Maextro aims to have a monthly production capacity of 4,000 units. "Maextro's S800 'super' luxury sedan goes into production" was originally created and published by Just Auto, a GlobalData owned brand. Nio Eyes Strategic Investors for Chip Unit as In-House Tech Gains Traction

Nio (NIO, Financials) is reportedly in talks to bring in strategic investors for its chip business, as the electric vehicle maker seeks to unlock value from its in-house semiconductor development and reduce costs, according to a LatePost report published Tuesday. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 3 Warning Signs with NIO. Sources told LatePost that Nio will likely spin off its chip team into a separate entity and cede a small stake to outside investors while retaining control. One potential structure includes a shareholding platform that combines Nio, external backers, and employees. The move comes as Nio ramps up deployment of its self-developed Shenji NX9031 smart driving chip already powering its flagship ET9 and replacing Nvidia's Orin X in updated models like the ET5, ES6, and EC6. The switch is expected to save the company around 10,000 yuan ($1,390) per vehicle. The chip unit may now operate under a new subsidiary named Anhui Shengji Technology, which was registered on June 17 in Hefei with a capital base of RMB 10 million ($1.39 million). Nio's VP Bai Jian is listed as the legal representative. The Shenji chip, unveiled in December 2023, offers four times the computing power of mainstream alternatives and marks a milestone in China's push for EV tech self-sufficiency. Nio also introduced a LiDAR main control chip, the NX6031, in 2023. Bringing in strategic capital could support Nio's push toward fourth-quarter profitability while reducing dependence on external chip suppliers like Nvidia. This article first appeared on GuruFocus. Tech war: iFlytek says using local chips in AI models extends development time by 3 months

A senior Chinese tech executive admits that using mainland-produced semiconductors could delay the development of artificial intelligence (AI) models by three months, but insisted that his company would continue to use these chips and push improved processes. Liu Qingfeng, chairman and founder of Chinese voice recognition solution provider iFlytek, said that the extended AI model development process was due to the need for additional computing resources, compared with using Nvidia chips and their mature software ecosystem. In a statement posted on the company's official channel on WeChat, Liu said iFlytek was likely 'the only Chinese AI model developer that insisted on using domestic chips', including the Ascend 910B developed by Huawei Technologies, 'to avoid the risk of losing access to imported chips'. However, the company, based in Hefei, Anhui province, has been barred from purchasing advanced US chips since it was added to the US Entity List in October 2019.
