‘Star Trek' Star Says He Won't Play His Popular Character Again
Star Trek actor Anson Mount is opening up about his decades-long career in the entertainment industry. During an appearance on the July 15 episode of Michael Rosenbaum's podcastInside of You, Mount, who currently plays Captain Christopher Pike on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, discussed starring in the Western series, Hell on Wheels, which aired for five seasons until 2016. Mount said while he missed filming the series "like crazy," he wouldn't ever return to play his character, Cullen Bohannon. "It was a full chapter of my life. I love working outside. I love working with horses. I loved working with all of the cast and producers and everyone on set. I loved working with the network. But, no, I would not go back," said Mount during the interview. He explained that he believed it would be a disservice to his character if he ever reprised the role. "You know you've done your job when you feel like your character has deserved their rest. And it would be like grave digging to bring him back. I wouldn't do that," said Mount. While speaking to Rosenbaum, Mount also discussed playing Captain Pike, a role originated by Jeffrey Hunter in the original Star Trek series, which aired from 1966 to 1969. He noted that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is a prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series, meaning his version of the captain is "in a very different place" than Hunter's Pike. He also said he appreciated having to abide by the limitations of portraying an already-established character. "I think every artist needs the limitations. And at this point Star Trek is almost its own genre. And I think you have to study if you want to do it correctly," said Mount. When Rosenbaum asked Mount if he "studied" the Star Trek franchise, the Hell on Wheels actor replied that he was a fan of the original series when he was a child. "I grew up watching it in syndication," said the 52-year-old. The third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premieres on July 17 on Paramount+. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. Calgary Stampede, July 13: Veteran volunteer Showdown Sunday and Rangeland Derby finals set
Sunday is the final day of the 2025 edition of the Calgary Stampede. Article content Showdown Sunday at the rodeo and the final run of the Rangeland Derby chuckwagon races will take place at GMC Stadium. Article content Article content Article content Article content It's been fun to watch the evolution of Alberta artists that set off to conquer Nashville, whether it be Lindsay Ell, Noeline Hofmann or Sykamore. Originally from Medicine Hat, MacKenzie Porter first gained attention as a thespian — she played a teenage Mormon bride for a few seasons on Hell on Wheels — but is mostly focused on country music these days and her star has been on the rise ever since. She signed with Music City powerhouse Big Loud Records back in 2018 as the label's first Canadian artist. Article content Article content Article content Want to feel elderly? Consider the fact that Montreal pop-punk act Simple Plan first bounced onto the scene 23 years ago with appropriately snotty and angsty teenage-outsider skate-punk anthems such as I'm Just a Kid and Welcome to My Life. The band returned to these roots in 2022 for Harder Than It Looks, giving them a 20-year canon of perpetually youthful material to draw from. Article content Article content A horse was injured Saturday night at the Calgary Stampede's Rangeland Derby chuckwagon races. Article content No immediate report was available regarding the horse's condition, but it was loaded onto a trailer as announcer Les McIntyre told the crowd that the horse would get the best care and would hopefully be able to return to racing.

PETA hosts peaceful protest over Erie restaurant special menu item
Panos' Restaurant in Erie was the target of a PETA protest Thursday. It was a peaceful protest with PETA aiming to convert the popular restaurants' customers to veganism. An inside look at Erie police's Crisis Intervention Unit Inside it was business as usual at Panos' Restaurant with many customers enjoying this week's special: a fried chicken bacon waffle sandwich. But outside, PETA's Hell on Wheels truck was parked raising awareness of what their spokesperson said happens to chickens before they end up on restaurant menus. PETA representatives are hoping the graphic images on the truck along with the graphic sounds coming out of it will convince some meat eaters to go vegan. 'They're crowded onto these crowded transport trucks with hundreds of other chickens in all weather extremes like today where it's snowing. They'll be on the road for hours, sometimes days with no food or water,' said Marnie Chambless, lead tour administrator for PETA. Toni & Guy Hairdressing Academy to close after final class graduates The general manager of Pano's said everyone has a right to free speech and free choice of what's on their plates. He also couldn't help but wonder. 'Why us? How did we hit the radar when there's giant corporations that sell way more chicken than we do?' said Evan Lagace, general manager of Panos' Restaurant. Chambless said the truck makes stops at fast-food chains as well. Panos' does serve cage-free eggs and has vegan items on the menu. Legace thinks PETA should focus its energy elsewhere. 'I think it would be a much better use of their time to change federal legislation and really push at that level,' he said. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now 'PETA actually works in countless ways to end cruelty to chickens and other animals. We do legislative things, we put up billboards,' Chambless went on to say. Ultimately, it was a peaceful protest. The PETA representative turned down a hot cup of Panos' coffee and the two agreed to disagree. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
