MUAR: The Sessions Court today ordered a teenage boy with a disability), who was charged with physical sexual assault against a female acquaintance on a motorcycle, to be detained at Henry Gurney School until he turns 21. The 18-year-old accused pleaded guilty after the charge was read to him by a court interpreter before judge Sayani Mohd Nor. He was ordered to begin serving the sentence today at Henry Gurney School in Telok Mas, Melaka, in accordance with Section 76 of the Child Act 2001 (Act 611). According to the charge, the teenager, who works at an orchard, committed the act against his 15-year-old acquaintance on a parked motorcycle by an irrigation canal in Tangkak around 3.15pm on May 25. The offence falls under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for physical sexual assault, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment and whipping upon conviction. The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Othman Affan Ismail. The accused was unrepresented. The court also ordered the teen to be placed under police supervision for one year after completing his sentence.

Judge Zuraidah Zakaria handed down the sentence after the teenager pleaded guilty to a charge framed under Section 392 of the Penal Code, punishable under the same section and read together with Section 397 of the same Code. Section 392 provides for imprisonment of up to 14 years and also stipulates liability to a fine or whipping. Meanwhile, Section 397 allows for a sentence of whipping in addition to any other punishment under the Penal Code. The offence was committed at around 12.32am on May 28, 2025 at the convenience store. According to the facts of the case, the accused, wearing a helmet, entered the premises and approached a staff member while brandishing a knife with the intention to rob. Fearing for her safety, the victim handed over RM514 in cash from the store's drawer to the suspect. A police report was subsequently lodged, which led to the arrest of the suspect. He was later positively identified by the victim during a police line-up. Further investigation revealed that the accused had provided information regarding the items used during the incident. These included a vegetable-cutting knife and a pair of black jeans. The seized items, the vegetable-cutting knife and a maroon-coloured helmet, were also identified by the victim and were consistent with those seen in the store's closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage. Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan imposed the order until the teen reaches the age of 21, and further fined him RM1,500 or two months' imprisonment in default, for driving underage. The sentence was handed down after the Magistrate's Court received a report from the Social Welfare Department and submissions from Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Fillanny Siji. The teenager, who was unrepresented, pleaded guilty on May 14 to two charges under Sections 41(1) and 39(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, and for driving while under the age of 16. Speaking to reporters, Mohd Fillanny said the prosecution had sought a custodial sentence in light of the loss of five lives, adding that such cases should serve as a deterrent amid the rising number of road accidents in Kuching. On May 14, the teen's 35-year-old father also pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 33(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for permitting his son to drive without proper supervision. He was fined RM15,000, in default 12 months' imprisonment and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service within six months. On January 14, the teenager lost control of the vehicle he was driving and crashed into two cars and two motorcycles along Jalan Stutong Baru.
