The Hangout: Bowling for soup

I have always loved beautiful stories that both inspire and uplift, and that is exactly what we get when we dare to dream big, persevere through challenges, and look back at the journey of legendary South African icon Ina Paarman. I am all about celebrating our heritage and paying tribute to the local legends who have shaped our foody culture. After all, we know local is lekker, and today I am shining a light on a woman who had the courage to stand tall and now exports her renowned range of spices, seasonings, sauces, and more to thirty-two countries across the globe. What an unbelievable accomplishment. In 1982, Ina took a bold leap of faith. She left behind the security of her lecturing job to open a cookery school in her family's converted garage. At the time, the concept was unfamiliar and initially slow to gain traction. Most people were not accustomed to paying for cooking lessons, and Ina had no advertising budget to spread the word. Undeterred, she sent her teenage sons out on bicycles to deliver homemade flyers throughout the neighbourhood. What started as a humble home business gradually blossomed, and seven years later, her school had become hugely popular. This success was fuelled by Ina's infectious passion for both cooking and teaching, qualities that turned every lesson into an experience. (Kinda makes me think she's our very own Julia Child in a way but she's also giving Elizabeth Zott in the Lessons in Chemistry series.) I am genuinely grateful that this queen of cooking stayed the course. She has made my life not only more delicious but also so much easier. In the rush of modern life, we are constantly searching for ways to simplify our routines. Often, we reach for convenience and occasionally compromise on health, which is perfectly fine now and again. However, it is comforting to know there are brands like Ina Paarman that offer convenience that's healthy too. Her products are packed with flavour and goodness, and for me, they carry a deep sense of nostalgia. We are roughly the same age, so I remember growing up with her iconic products in our home, and now with the new #HiberNation campaign, all those special memories are flooding back. The Paarman team explains that the #HiberNation campaign captures exactly what we all feel when winter sets in: the desire to retreat, recharge, and reach for something nourishing, comforting, and delicious. Ina Paarman's range is designed for this very season, allowing you to create wholesome, hearty meals with ease and satisfaction. That is the magic of comfort food. It warms us from the inside out, makes us smile, and brings a sense of peace in the middle of winter's chill. For instant gratification, the Ready To Serve Soups are a brilliant choice. The Beef and Lentil Soup is rich in collagen and wonderfully hearty, while the Country Chicken Soup offers both great flavour and a range of health benefits thanks to its rich, real chicken broth. And let's be honest, chicken soup is good for the soul too, right? All of them are delicious, but for me, nothing beats the Tomato Soup, especially with a golden toasted cheese sandwich for dipping. You had me at hello, Ina Paarman's Tomato Soup. I could go on forever about all of my favourites, but instead, I encourage you to explore the many wonderful recipes available on the website at . Follow the #HiberNation campaign for weekly inspiration, from clever tips to wholesome, home-cooked meals that make winter feel a little more magical. Bon appétit and Nikonwabele ukutya kwenu.
