Lorry driver killed in early-morning crash on Elite Highway

KUALA LUMPUR: A man was killed and two others sustained minor injuries in a two-lorry collision on the Elite Highway early Wednesday morning. According to the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, the incident occurred at Km 9.9 of the highway heading toward KLIA from Subang. Emergency services were alerted at 5.48am, with fire crews from the Subang Jaya station arriving at the scene at 6.01am. The accident involved two Hicom 1-tonne lorries — one carrying a load of corn and the other transporting eggs. The driver of the corn-laden lorry, in his 40s, was found trapped in the driver's seat. Firefighters successfully extricated the victim at 6.15am, but he was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. Two men in their 30s, who were in the second lorry, suffered minor injuries. Both managed to exit the vehicle before firefighters arrived. A total of six fire and rescue personnel led by operations commander Syafiq Mohd Shukri responded to the call. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
