Mexican fuel theft gang dismantled in major operation
Thirty-two people have been arrested in an operation targeting one of the main criminal organisations responsible for fuel theft in central Mexico, authorities gang stole fuel by drilling into pipelines and then storing it in warehouses, according to the security and civilian protection García Harfuch said gang members would then sell the fuel illegally across Mexico City and the states of Hidalgo and Queré a press conference on Sunday, García Harfuch said some gang members had also forged documents and maintained connections with local authorities to facilitate operations. He identified suspects Cirio Sergio "N" and Luis Miguel "N" as two of the main alleged leaders of the criminal organisation tasked with coordinating the extraction and distribution of the man, named as Aurelio N, was identified as a leading "logistic and financial operator of the criminal cell," García Harfuch operation was the result of six months of investigative work to identify and locate gang members, authorities said. García Harfuch also said 12 properties that served as the gang's operation centres were seized, alongside nearly 50 vehicles, 36 firearms and 16 million pesos (£619,464) in animals and exotic species – including a lion cub, a jaguar cub and two spider monkeys - were also found at the an update on X on Sunday evening, he said "these animals were in risky conditions" and were now being taken care of by the federal attorney for environmental protection's office.

Notre Dame star Hannah Hidalgo had a rough night while former Fighting Irish star Olivia Miles shined as Team USA made it two wins from two games at the FIBA Women's AmeriCup on Sunday. The U.S. cruised to an 80-43 victory over Colombia in Chile, strengthening their position atop Group B after a blowout victory over the tournament hosts on Saturday. The youthful American team, comprised of college talents, has proved a class above much more experienced opposition so far, with group games against Puerto Rico and Mexico still to come. However, it was a rough night for Notre Dame point guard Hidalgo individually. The junior put up just two points, one rebound and four assists in 16 minutes, going 1 of 10 from the floor. It followed a 14-point performance against Chile in the tournament opener. The senior was much more efficient in her 20 minutes on the court, finishing with 11 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists, going 4 of 7 from the floor en route to a commanding victory in Santiago. Mikayla Blakes led the U.S. in scoring with 15 points, while Joyce Edwards impressed from the bench with 13 points and nine rebounds. The Americans' final group game follows on Wednesday against Mexico, who beat Chile 76-59 to make a winning start to the championship. In Group A, Canada leads the way with two wins from two games. Both Brazil and the Dominican Republic have won their only games so far. The top four teams from each group qualify for the quarterfinals, which begin on Friday.

The Fighting Irish guard had a strong stat line against Chile. Hidalgo is one 12 players on the roster, along with former Fighting Irish teammate Olivia Miles, who has transferred to Texas Christian. Team USA is seeking its first AmeriCup title since 2021. It lost to Brazil in the 2023 final. If Hidalgo continues to put up numbers like that, the chances of another American title are bright. Turkish Airlines considers minority stake in Air Europa
-- Turkish Airlines is looking into making a bid for a minority stake in Spanish carrier Air Europa, joining other major airlines interested in the deal. According to a Reuters report on Friday, binding bids for the stake are due by early July. Air Europa, owned by the Hidalgo family's Globalia holding company, has attracted attention from several major carriers. Air France KLM (OTC:AFLYY) and Lufthansa are also in discussions about purchasing a stake in the Spanish airline. Turkish Airlines currently has a codeshare agreement with Air Europa, which generates more than 25% of its revenue from European operations.
