On July 4 at about 11:30 p.m., officers responded to a robbery on the bypass between Lively and Chelmsford, in Greater Sudbury. How the robbery unfolded According to police, a vehicle was travelling northbound on Highway 144 toward Chelmsford when another vehicle approached from behind and began flashing its high beams. 'The victim pulled over and stopped on the shoulder, with the suspect vehicle stopping behind,' OPP said in a news release. The driver of the suspect vehicle remained inside, while a passenger approached the victim, claiming there was an issue with their taillight. When the victim exited to inspect it, the passenger brandished a knife, demanding the victim's purse. The suspect then took cash and personal belongings from the bag before fleeing. 'Due to the high beams, the victim was unable to clearly see the driver,' police said. The suspect with the knife was described as an Indigenous male with short hair, wearing a white crewneck sweater. The vehicle involved was a dark blue or black hatchback. No injuries were reported in the incident. OPP Vehicle - Door Open An Ontario Provincial Police vehicle with the front passenger door opened.
