MUSCAT: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY) has announced the launch of the 2025 edition of the 'Youth Initiatives Support Programme'. The programme comprises 61 initiatives covering a broad range of activities spanning the fields of culture, health, sports, economy, media, religion, the environment and entrepreneurship. It serves all segments of society in the Sultanate of Oman's governorates. Hilal bin Saif al Siyabi, Director General of Youth at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, said that the Ministry accords special attention to youth initiatives that address the needs of society and align with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, notably in the areas of innovation, sustainability and social development.' Al Siyabi added that youth initiatives include community projects or activities that address social and developmental issues through a voluntary, non-profit approach. The initiatives, he explained, reflect the spirit of innovation and active citizenship and accommodate the Omani cultural values. An integrated electronic system has been prepared for evaluating and developing the initiatives Statistics show that the 'Youth Initiatives Support Programme' has seen steady growth and that, since its inception in 2016, it has provided support for more than 600 initiatives benefited more than 150,000 young men and women. The programme organisers also held exhibitions and local activities that consolidated the media presence and institutional outreach of the initiatives. The Ministry has prepared a guide and an integrated electronic system for evaluating and developing the initiatives, within the framework of supporting youth initiatives, regulating their objectives and improving their quality in cooperation with government and private establishments. Muscat – Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MCSY) has launched the 2025 edition of its Youth Initiatives Support Programme, approving 61 projects across the sultanate. The initiatives span the fields of culture, health, sports, economy, media, religion, environment and entrepreneurship with the aim of benefiting diverse segments of society. Hilal bin Saif al Siyabi, Director General of Youth Affairs at MCSY, said the programme reflects an ongoing commitment to backing youth-led projects that address community needs and align with Oman Vision 2040. Priority areas include innovation, sustainability and social development. 'Youth initiatives are voluntary, non-profit projects designed and carried out by Omani youth to tackle development and social issues,' Siyabi said. He added that the programme encourages leadership, active citizenship and respect for national cultural values. According to the ministry, the programme creates a collaborative framework connecting youth with government institutions, allowing young people to propose practical solutions while gaining skills in project management and planning. Support includes training, consultations and capacity-building sessions, as well as logistical help with venues, transport and official processes. Financial backing is available for projects that meet quality standards and align with ministry priorities. Applications for 2025 were submitted via the ministry's website and screened under strict criteria, including leaders being Omani youth, and projects being non-profit and having clear and measurable goals. MCSY has also launched advanced training for programme leaders, focusing on modern tools, capacity building and alignment with national development plans. The next phase will emphasise high-quality content and a decentralised support model tailored to each governorate. Since its inception in 2016, the programme has supported over 600 initiatives, benefiting more than 150,000 young men and women. It has also helped organise national exhibitions and events, raising awareness and recognition of youth-led efforts. To strengthen oversight, the ministry has developed a comprehensive guide and an electronic system to evaluate and enhance initiatives in partnership with public and private sector stakeholders.

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, in collaboration with the Oman Debate Centre, has launched the 8th edition of the National Debating Championship, a key initiative aimed at enhancing the art of persuasion, critical thinking and constructive dialogue among young people. The championship reflects Oman Vision 2040 goals of youth empowerment and fostering a culture of effective discourse. By equipping participants with public speaking and analytical skills, the programme prepares them to engage meaningfully with national, regional and global issues. Training sessions begin today, starting with the fundamentals of debating. The second session on Tuesday will focus on argumentation and refutation, while the third will cover case analysis and presentation techniques. This year's championship introduces a new format for the qualifying stages, divided across three major stations: April 11 at the Arab Open University (Muscat Governorate), for participants from Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Batinah South, Al Sharqiyah North and Al Sharqiyah South. April 18 at the University of Buraimi (Al Buraimi Governorate), for participants from Al Batinah North, Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi and Musandam. April 21 at Dhofar University (Dhofar Governorate), for teams from Dhofar and Al Wusta. School-level qualifiers will be held virtually to ensure broader participation. Hilal bin Saif al Siyabi, Director-General of the Directorate-General of Youth at the Ministry, described the event as a cornerstone in shaping eloquent, thoughtful youth, capable of presenting informed viewpoints with clarity and respect. He emphasised the growing level of competition and participation year after year. Nasser bin Humaid al Hinai, CEO of the Oman Debate Centre, echoed these sentiments, stating that the championship aims to cultivate a generation of future leaders through structured debate and intensive training. Following the preliminary rounds, 272 debaters from 68 teams - including clubs and educational institutions - will advance to the finals. The champions will go on to represent the Sultanate of Oman in future international competitions. Registration is open to teams from schools, universities and clubs across Oman, further embedding debate as a vital educational and developmental tool. — ONA

The championship seeks to equip young people with skills in persuasion and critical thinking, while encouraging healthy competition and promoting the ethics of dialogue. It also aims to highlight debates as a key educational tool that enhances teaching methods and helps students analyse social issues through logical reasoning. Organisers hope it will prepare a generation capable of engaging responsibly with local and global challenges. Preliminary training sessions will begin on Monday, covering fundamentals such as debating basics, argument construction, rebuttals, and case analysis. Participants will also learn techniques for structured presentations. This year's edition features a revised format for the qualifying rounds, divided into three regional stages. The first will take place at the Arab Open University in Muscat on April 11 and will include teams from Muscat, Dakhliyah, South Batinah, North Sharqiyah and South Sharqiyah. The second round will be hosted by the University of Buraimi on April 18, featuring teams from North Batinah, Dhahirah, Buraimi and Musandam. The third stage will be held at Dhofar University on April 21, involving teams from Al Wusta and Dhofar. School-level qualifiers will be conducted virtually to select finalists. Nasser bin Humaid al Hinai, CEO of the Oman Debate Centre, added that the tournament is part of an effort to foster leadership among youth through structured discussion. 'We aim to build a generation capable of contributing to society through objective dialogue. In addition to official matches, participants will benefit from intensive training sessions,' he said. The championship will see over 272 debaters from 68 teams compete, including 28 teams from cultural and sports clubs and 40 representing educational institutions. The finalists will go on to compete for the national title and the opportunity to represent Oman in international championships.

Muscat – Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MCSY) has announced the tenth season of the Clubs Competition for Cultural Creativity, a key programme aimed at fostering the intellectual and creative development of Omani youth. Hilal bin Saif al Siyabi, Director of the competition and Director General of Youth Affairs, highlighted the significance of the programme, which focuses on nurturing cognitive and intellectual growth among young people. He stated that the competition has long served as a platform for discovering and refining young talents, contributing to their personal development and the broader progress of society. 'The goal is to encourage youth participation in a wide range of cultural, artistic and technical activities, thereby promoting community development,' Siyabi said. It targets Omani youth aged ten to 29, divided into two categories: 10–16 years and 17–29 years. It covers various creative fields, including literature, with focus on classical and popular poetry; culture, with emphasis on debates; and visual arts, featuring fine arts and photography. In the performing arts category, participants will compete in music and singing, while the technology and innovation segment includes fields such as entrepreneurship, innovation and electronic games. The sports category will feature a sports commentary contest. The competition has several prestigious awards, including Best Youth Committee Award, which recognises contributions of youth committees within clubs and encourages greater community participation. The competition awards aim to boost youth involvement, spotlight creative talents and underscore the importance of local youth committees in nurturing young, talented Omanis. A Media Competition has also been introduced this season, targeting volunteer media teams from across Oman, to further promote collaboration and creativity in the media sector.
