Historic Hinton pilot to receive a spot among Mountain State royalty in West Virginia Hall of Fame
PIPESTEM, WV (WVNS) – Hinton native Earl Halloran will be honored at a ceremony in McKeever Lodge at Pipestem Resort Resort State Park on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 3 p.m.
Scott Hill is the activities coordinator at Pipestem Resort State Park. He explained Halloran was one of the first pilots in World War One. For that time period, Hill equated piloting any kind of aircraft to being an astronaut or working for NASA in the 1960s.

This induction means a lot to this hall of fame, as part of the park is set in Summers County, where Halloran was from.
'We have a lot of children's groups and student groups [come through]. It is great to be able to point to him and say, 'Hey, he is from where you are – not sort of – is from where you are right here in Hinton.' It is really good to have those real close folks [in our Hall of Fame]. We have a couple of them that are really close,' said Hill.
Halloran did a lot for the flight community in West Virginia – forming the Hinton Aero Club, barnstorming across the state, and much more.
He also established a bus line and car dealership in Hinton.
Halloran has passed away, but his family will be at the lodge to commemorate his big day at Pipestem.
