That comes after The Athletic reported a £25million offer from Newcastle was rejected by Brentford. Copy link Copied By Man Utd may have identified long-term Andre Onana replacement for free Man Utd teen star Elyh Harrison is following in the footsteps of Dean Henderson after joining Shrewsbury Town on loan. After showing plenty of potential at youth level, United have now decided the next step in Harrison's development is for him to get regular game time in the EFL for the first time. Onana has fallen short of expectations, with Harrison, the next big thing in United's goalkeeping ranks, walking in the path Henderson laid out. Harrison, who joined United's academy from Stevenage in 2022, spent the first half of last season on loan at non-league outfit Chester, keeping seven clean sheets in 18 appearances. He was due to spend the duration of the 2024/25 term at the National League North outfit, but United recalled him in January to train with the first-team and feature for the academy. The 19-year-old was named on the bench eight times by boss Ruben Amorim after being recalled. Copy link Copied By Tottenham keen on Palhinha Tottenham are monitoring Joao Palhinha's situation at Bayern Munich. But any possible move for the former Fulham hardman would likely depend on another central midfielder leaving Spurs. Palhinha, 30, has fallen down the pecking order at Bayern and could be available for around £22million. Should Spurs firm up their interest, it would be most likely in the form of a loan approach, yet central midfield is an area where they already have plenty of players. Copy link Copied By Man Utd keeping wonderkid Manchester United ace Sekou Kone is already turning heads at Old Trafford after playing in both of the club's post-season matches in Asia. According to And so Amorim and Man Utd have decided to cancel the defensive midfielder's planned loan move to Ineos-owned Lausanne. That means the Mali youth international could find first-team opportunities this coming season as the Red Devils look to rebuild on a budget. Copy link Copied By Eberechi Eze twist Arsenal may be forced to end their bid to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze. Palace are unwilling to part ways with Eze for anything less than his £67.5million release clause. The Eagles also insist the majority of the playmaker's release clause would have to be paid up front. Ethan Nwaneri's new contract makes the Gunners' life much easier as they now have back-up for Martin Odegaard at No10. Therefore, the North Londoners are not desperate for attacking midfield reinforcements. Copy link Copied By Tottenham targeting Palhinha Tottenham are monitoring Joao Palhinha's situation at Bayern Munich. Thomas Frank has five natural options in the middle of the park, and that is not including No10s James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski. Nor does that include versatile Morgan Gibbs-White, whose £60m switch from Nottingham Forest is in limbo. Yves Bissouma, 28, is the most likely candidate to exit the club, given he has only 11 months remaining on his contract. Copy link Copied By Gyokeres agreement very close Arsenal are getting very close to signing Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres. That is according to transfer insider David Ornstein of The Athletic, who reports the Gunners and Sporting are on the verge of a "total agreement". The two teams have already reached a deal on a fee worth £55million, plus £8.7m in add-ons. Finishing touches are being sorted and a conclusion is now "imminent". Gyokeres, who always wanted a move to the Emirates, is set to sign a five-year deal. Copy link Copied By Middlesbrough set price for star Middlesbrough want at least £12million for Rav van den Berg after rejecting an £8.7m bid from Feyenoord. Premier League duo Crystal Palace and Brentford, where his older brother Sepp plays, have been tracking the 21-year-old Dutch defender. Both clubs were monitoring the star as he helped the Netherlands to reach the Under-21 European Championship semi-finals last month. However, it is Robin van Persie who is looking to steal a march on their English rivals by bringing him back home. The ex-Arsenal and Manchester United striker is now in charge of Feyenoord and his club tabled an offer on Monday - but SunSport learned it was knocked back. The Dutch outfit are now weighing up a second bid as Boro hope this latest development leads to a bidding war as they look to raise cash to fund new manager Rob Edwards' rebuild. Boro are ready to bring in free agent striker Danny Ings and Blackburn right-back Callum Brittain but need to offload first. SunSport understand Amorim, 40, is also planning for the future with Man Utd eyeing Sinate, 19. The Red Devils will follow the left-back's progress throughout this coming season. That is after the Manchester giants' scouts were left impressed by the Mali youth international's displays during the Maurice Revello Tournament. Sinate stood out while playing with Mali's Under-20s during this year's edition in June. Nevertheless, a move seems more likely next summer or January the earliest. Man Utd star's damning response to Rasmus Hojlund X-rated dig in Leeds friendly
Manchester United drew a familiar blank in attack against Leeds in Stockholm on Saturday - and there were potentially worrying signs for Ruben Amorim as he attempts to turn things around Rasmus Hojlund showed his disgust after Diogo Dalot failed to find him with a pass in Manchester United 's friendly against Leeds on Saturday. United drew 0-0 with the newly-promoted Premier League side in Stockholm in a drab start to their pre-season campaign. Ruben Amorim gave an unofficial debut to £62.5million signing Matheus Cunha, who was one of the only positive takeaways from the match. Otherwise it followed a familiar theme for the club, who finished a lowly 15th last season and are expected to improve in 2025/26. Hojlund managed 10 goals in 52 appearances for United last season, only four of which came in the league, and he often cut a frustrated figure up front. That continued on Saturday in the Swedish capital – and the Danish striker wasn't shy in letting his team-mates know. Hojlund was looking for Dalot to pass the ball in behind the Leeds defence, but it came later than he wanted it, meaning he was likely offside. "F*** sake," he yelled in Dalot's direction. The Portuguese full-back wasn't interested in hearing his moans and simply ignored him and jogged on. The lack of a link-up between the two United players was evident later in the game too. Dalot did find Hojlund with a cross, only for his header to be deflected, while the young striker was shouting at Dalot again later on after he opted to pass to Patrick Dorgu instead of him. This is a make or break pre-season for Amorim, but he clearly isn't concerned about the atmosphere around the squad, who are missing Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho, who have been banished. "The environment is really good, of course sometimes we are going to struggle, but what I felt in the first moment is that if we are going to struggle, we will struggle together," Amorim told MUTV post-match. "That is the beginning of everything, then we have to put the quality. This club is not just about the effort, it's about the quality, we have to win games." He added: "We need to create that bond between everybody [on the United States tour] - not just between the players but the staff. All the changes are stopping. We need to leave that as a group. We have a lot to improve, the speed of the game, all of the details. We need to improve." Amorim was clear on what the main problem was. "We have a lack of pace,' he said. 'Especially in the middle of the park, you can feel it's hard to bring the ball. We created chances. We have a lot to do but it was a first test against a Premier League team with two different teams, a good test. "Matheus Cunha showed what we need, a player in between the lines who is really aggressive. We watched that during last season for a different team. We expect the same thing. "You can see the connection with him and Bruno Fernandes is still not there. But it will be a good connection, because you can put a player like Kobbie Mainoo or Mason Mount there. We need to increase our quality in the final third." Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football. Man Utd striker 'enquiry made' hours after third Bryan Mbeumo transfer offer launched
Manchester United have ramped up their attempts to land Bryan Mbeumo and at the same time have received an enquiry from AC Milan as they eye striker Rasmus Hojlund AC Milan enquired about the possibility of landing Rasmus Hojlund from Manchester United, sooner after after the Red Devils renewed their attempts to sign Bryan Mbeumo. Ruben Amorim has been chasing the Brentford frontman for weeks, but has seen the saga drag on. Now the club have returned with a fresh package worth £70million, which they hope will be enough to get the Bees to finally cash in on their leading light. Mbeumo could join Matheus Cunha at Old Trafford with the duo part of a new look attack, which could ultimately see Hojlund be among those to lose out. Sky Sports in Italy reports that Milan have signalled their interest after contacting those in Manchester. The Dane previously played and impressed in Italy, which convinced United to spend more than £70m on the unproven striker who was then at Atalanta. He's been unable to deliver consistently at Old Trafford and now a move back to Serie A could be on the cards. Hojlund has been linked with Inter Milan, but their San Siro rivals could now join the party. United will have to accept a considerable loss on their striker, but just how much they demand remains to be seen. Milan finished a disappointing eighth last term, meaning they are without European football. Christian Pulisic top scored for them with 17 goals but Tijjani Reijnders, who chipped in with 15 goals, has left for Manchester City and the Rossoneri are yet to sign a striker this summer. United's desire to add more firepower stems from the lack of goals in their team last term. They struggled in the final third and didn't have anyone in attack they could rely on to consistently come up trumps in front of goal. Hojlund scored just four Premier League goals last term. Amorim accepted that the player was short of expectations, but acknowledged he was bereft of confidence and claimed it was on the entire team to service him and help him out of his rut. "I think if you look at the games we have several players that miss big chances, not just Rasmus," he said. "Of course, Rasmus, the game is to score goals because he's a striker, but it's a team thing. I already said that. Our team should score more goals, it's not just Rasmus missing chances." Amorim also added: "It's a team thing. Of course, we have an idea of what this team needs but also the guys we play with, we play at least three guys in front to score goals and we have midfielders that can. All the team needs to score more goals and you have opportunities with the midfielders and the striker. We need to improve as a team because if you don't score goals in this league it's impossible to win games."

'The picture is too cloudy for any Man Utd fan to feel confident'
Injuries have dented the confidence of Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez, who must compete for a place in a defence containing promising youngsters Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven. Andre Onana's pre-season hamstring issue gives Amorim an opportunity to assess his goalkeeping options but, in truth, unless 21-year-old Radek Vitek steps up, the choice will be to stick or twist with the Cameroon international, given Altay Bayindir was given his chance at the end of last season and failed to impress. It is a similar story in attack. The pursuit of Liam Delap, who instead chose Chelsea, emphasises Amorim feels he can improve on Rasmus Hojlund. Viktor Gyokeres, who played for Amorim at Sporting, has also decided against a move to United. Ollie Watkins, who lost his place at Aston Villa when Marcus Rashford arrived from United on loan, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. So too have out-of-contract pair Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jamie Vardy. They are all names to suggest United might be better off giving Hojlund one more chance. But can Amorim trust that the Dane is ready to fulfil the promise that prompted United to pay Atalanta £72m for him two years ago? Hojlund himself has been linked with his old boss Gian Piero Gasperini at Roma. But, as with so many players, turning vague interest into reality is not easy. When he spoke to fanzine United We Stand last month, chief executive Omar Berrada said the pain of last season's 15th-placed finish, the worst since the 1973-74 relegation campaign, was self-inflicted in the belief reward would follow. "He [Amorim] has suffered in the Premier League, and the team has suffered," Berrarda said. "But we saw it as an investment for the following seasons, because we were going to give time to Ruben to get to know the squad, the club and the Premier League, so by the time that we got to now, we'll have had all the discussions about what the squad needs and the two-to-three-year plan to get to a squad that's capable of winning the Premier League." There is still time before the opening Premier League game against Arsenal on 17 August for the clarity Amorim seemed so sure of when he spoke in Hong Kong to emerge. But as of now, the picture is too cloudy for any United fan to feel confident about what lies ahead. Read Simon's transfer breakdown of Man Utd Not a Man Utd fan?
