Ex-WWE head Vince McMahon charged with reckless driving after crash

Vince McMahon, then chair of World Wrestling Entertainment, appears at his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 2008. McMahon faces charges of reckless driving in a three-car crash in Connecticut. File Photo by Jim Ruymen/UPI | License Photo July 30 (UPI) -- Connecticut police charged former WWE CEO Vince McMahon for reckless driving and following too closely after a multicar collision on July 24 in Westport, Conn. McMahon, 78, driving 2024 Bentley Continental GT Speed, allegedly crashed into a BMW 430. Both cars crashed into a wooden guardrail, which sent debris into a median. A 2020 Ford Fusion, driven by a 27-year-old man in the opposite direction, crashed into the debris. There were no injuries. Police released McMahon on $500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Aug. 26. The driver of the BMW posted her account on Facebook. Barbara Doran, 72, is the founder and CEO of BD8 Capital Partners. She claimed that McMahon hit her after speeding "in and out of cars." "Lucky to have survived a horrific car crash on the way up to catch the ferry to Martha's Vineyard last Thursday morning. Both cars totaled. Vince McMahon @Mr. McMahon /#VinceMcMahon, former chair of WWE, hit me going 80-90mph as I drove in the right lane of the narrow Merritt Highway (built in the 1930s). I and the dog are mostly fine, but was lucky to have kept control of the car, more or less, as I shot off the road after being catapulted over 100 yards. "An unmarked state trooper had been following him as he sped in and out of cars down the highway and had just turned his lights on to pull Mcmahon over, but he was not in time. Both front wheels of McMahon's Bentley were sheared off, and his airbags deployed, probably saving him from significant injury. "The trooper told me afterwards that McMahon saw me last minute and swerved, smashing into my left rear, but that if he had hit me full on, there might've been a very different ending for me." McMahon rose to fame as the owner of WWE. He bought the entity from his father in 1982, and often put himself into the dramatics of wrestling. He stepped down as CEO of WWE in 2022 during an investigation into sexual assault, trafficking and abuse allegations and resigned as executive chair of TKO Group Holdings, the WWE's parent company, in 2023, after a lawsuit was filed by a former employee. In January, he agreed to pay $1.7 million in fines and restitution for violating U.S. securities laws. His wife, Linda McMahon, is the U.S. Secretary of Education.

The brief moment between the Fantastic Four star and the couple has sparked online debate, with fans questioning Pascal's intentions behind the seemingly innocent gesture. Fans react to Pedro Pascal touching Willem Dafoe's wife clip resurfacing Pedro Pascal sparked mixed reactions online after a video clip resurfaced showing him touching Willem Dafoe's wife, Giada Colagrande, during Dafoe's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in January 2024. The footage shows Pascal placing his hand on Colagrande's chin and stroking it while standing directly in front of Dafoe for a few seconds. In the cut-out clip of the video, some viewers noted that Dafoe's expression might have appeared to change after Pascal's interaction with Colagrande. Some fans have commented that they believe Pascal is facing unfair scrutiny, as the cut-out clip does not provide any context for Pascal's interaction with Colagrande. Netizens also claim that although several pictures exist of Pascal hugging Dafoe seconds later, these images haven't circulated as widely as the controversial moment. One commenter posted on X (formerly Twitter) that some social media users are unable to 'fathom platonic intimacy' between a male and a female. Another wrote, 'Clips shared with no back story or out of context become viral and can change public perception of someone and destroy people's lives.' Online discussions about Pascal's physical interaction with colleagues started after he appeared at the San Diego Comic-Con with Fantastic Four star Vanessa Kirby. In a moment of 'anxiety,' Pascal reached out for Kirby's hand. In response, Kirby took his hand and squeezed it assuringly. While the tender moment showed the pair's close friendship, it also received criticism online. Later, Kirby addressed the incident in a Vanity Fair interview. She explained, 'What happened is we were both incredibly nervous going out in front of thousands of people who love this comic.' She added, 'He wanted me to know that we were in this together, and I found it a lovely gesture and was very glad to squeeze his hand back.' Sir Tom Jones, 85, makes triumphant return to the stage after suffering illness

Sir Tom Jones has returned to the stage a week after being forced to cancel a show due to health issues. Last week the singer, 85, announced he was unable to perform in Bremen, Germany due to an upper respiratory infection. At the time he explained he 'needed treatment and rest', also apologising to fans for the 'disappointment and inconvenience'. A few days after the cancellation, Sir Tom had been due to headline a festival at the Dundee Waterfront this weekend. However, the organiser of Discovery Festival was confident the show would go on as planned, saying: 'We have no concerns ahead of Tom Jones' show on Sunday, July 27.' Their reassurances were luckily correct, with the crooner recovering in time to be able to delight fans at the event last night. Photos and videos from the festival show Sir Tom – best known for hits including It's Not Unusual, Sexbomb and Delilah – looking fighting fit, standing up on stage and swinging as he sung. Posting a clip on X, fan Anne Marie wrote: 'Tom Jones in Dundee yesterday, just wow! 85yrs old and he still has it.' Sir Tom's cancelled show had been part of his Defy Explanation tour, which kicked off in June and is set to run until the end of August with dates across the UK and Europe. During a recent show at the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, Denmark, he joked: 'Is my voice still working? Yes? So as long as it's here, I'm here.' Last year, Sir Tom told Metro the only way he would retire would be if he completely lost his voice. 'I wouldn't like to shortchange an audience, 'he said. Being old, you can't do what you used to do. 'I mean, I can't walk around like I used to, but I wouldn't want to now. When you're young you're full of p*** and vinegar and you're giving it plenty. Now I concentrate more on singing than I do anything else.' After releasing It's Not Unusual in 1965, the following year Sir Tom won best new artist at the Grammy Awards. More Trending Throughout his career, he's sold over 100 million records, with 36 Top 40 hits in the UK and 19 in the US. He also won an MTV Video Music Award in 1989, two Brit Awards: best British male in 2000 and outstanding contribution to music in 2003 and got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1989. In 1998 Sir Tom was awarded an OBE, before being knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2006 for services to music. Got a story?
